  • We are starting weekly online karate classes from the 3rd of August: email dojo@grkc1978.com to get added to the sign-up list. How we treat our gi is a reflection of who we are as students. Follow Ché as he teaches an easy way to fold your gi (training uniform) so that it can be neatly packed, either into your cupboard or for travel.
Still not sponsored by Shureido, but we can dream!

I need to go to Okinawa next year and get me a Shureido karate gi. I have three other brands that I use, but I prefer shureido over the other three.

Shureido will always be our first love for gi! Ché was in Okinawa this last month, and went to the Shureido store to buy a gi. Unfortunately, they didn't have a single one for him to buy! They currently have a 6 month backlog on orders. I truly hope that it is resolved before you go there.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!

Watching from Kenya we love your videos. Kindly do a video on Dojo/training protocol from entering the dojo, to the end. (like a simulation of a class, including Mokuso and the entire opening and closing ceremony).

Thank you Che Sensei for your views on taking care of karate the gi. What are your views on washing of the obi ? One school of thought holds the view that the karate belt should not be washed as it will remove all their blood ,sweat, tears and experience represented in the belt. The progression of the coloured belts originated from this idea: the student starts off with a white belt , it gets soaked with sweat and turns yellow. With regular training in the grass and sand and a mix of blood the students belt gradually changes through a series of colours and progressively gets darker until it gets black. The other view holds that from a hiegiene perspective, the belt should be washed.

      Hi
Generally I think it could be washed, especially when badly soiled, but the fear is washing out the colour in her cheaper belts,
Had to use a cheap black belt once, it left a black ring around my gi, I washed it everyday, until I had my replacement from shureido

I have been told in the past from one of my senseis:
"You have to take care of your gear as you have take care of your techniques".

Definitely! And no one wants a gi that rips in an embarrassing place at the worst time possible 🙈 as much as the white suit does frustrate me at times, it also does encourage a culture of hygiene and personal pride in appearance, which isn't the same as vanity. (Vanity is wearing ten badges on the gi and insisting on nonsense titles lol)

There are three ways to fold your karategi: first, is like a traditional dojo as shown; second, a military service and any master sergeant will teach anybody and quite promptly; third, is having a thug wife (which covers both ways, of course).

Truly, the way of the Thug Wife is one of harmony as long as there is compliance ☯️
