FINALLY: Upgrading my engines from the SAL-6330's to the SAL-6830's. Does it make a difference?

  • After putting it off for a while, I decided to finally complete the "All That Money Can Buy" quest and upgrade my engines on my ships to the SAL-6830's, but was it really worth it? How much extra mobility can I get? Will the ship fly any different?

    Great testing results. I use the 6830 on builds with 10000 plus cargo. Sometimes engine choice comes down to looks and how if fits into the design of the ship. Your build videos are some of the best.

    Always enjoy your videos.
    I have to add a couple points though:
    A peaceful resolution is not required for the quest but obviously the best outcome from the lore standpoint
    I believe simply using the upgrade option allows you to upgrade the engines without hitting the builder portion

    • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the input. I had always read that you needed a peaceful resolution in order to get the engines. Others have also commented that this is not the case. I think this is one area that Starfield does really lack. Your actions rarely have any lasting consequences. For example, you can completely turn on the UC during the Crimson Fleet missions, take out their command ship, and wipe the fleet out.. and then go back to New Atlantis and everyone is cool. I wish decisions had lasting consequences in the world. That would make NG+ even more appealing
      As for the ship upgrade option. Good point. I completely forget that we have that option.

    The 6330's are fine, but since I can afford the 6830's I put them on my ships. I rarely carry more then 2500 cargo, so the 9360 with perks and one payload specialist is more than enough to do the 5,000 unit cargo hauls for the staryards: Deimos, Stroud, Trident. In fact, now that my outposts are all built I'm trimming my cargo capacity down to 2 x 1480. With the C4 Bridge and perks that gives me lots of cargo and 100 mobility with the 6330's. For those who missed out on unlocking the 6830's, don't be too upset because the 6330's will work fine. You may have to be a little more creative to keep the mass down for 100 mobility, but I find there is lots of room to build large ships and get 100 mobility with the 6330's.

    • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před měsícem

      The 6330's are a great engine. If you already have those on a ship, I don't think its worth upgrading. But if I am building from scratch, I usually will select the 6830's, just to have a little wiggle room with the mass.
      Plus, now with the new empty habs, I can take an empty 2x2 and load it up with storage containers. That doesn't affect mass of the ship, and gives me a ton of space (I used a quarter of one of those habs and ended up with 48 crates stacked up.. that's an extra 7200 of cargo space).

    The biggest advantage of these engines are their high mobility and that they only use 2 power per engine

    • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před 2 měsíci

      Agreed. But I don't know if it would be worth upgrading from the 6330's to the 6830 if you already have the 6330's on your ship. The 15 extra mobility does not do much. It will provide more mass (and therefor more cargo), but I don't know if that would be worth the price of the upgrade.
      If you are starting a build from scratch, however. The 6830's are worth it.

    After 3 play throughs I finally got these engines. I knew they were not required in my MKII but I like the ability to choose more mass. • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před 2 měsíci

      They do make a difference with mass and cargo. If you have the option to buy them in the beginning before building the ship, then its worth it. I am using them on some of my builds now that I have access to them (my next ship uses them as its a BIG ship... max length and width, plus max parts).

  • @TheVoxbox13
    @TheVoxbox13 Před 2 měsíci +1

    Great job with this. Definitely am on board with your evaluation.
    Side Note
    FWIW... (and my own disclaimer - unless this was patched out in the last month or two)...
    It actually turns out you don't have to do the peaceful resolution to get the engines. Major Slack did an absolute wrecking of the place, including un-aliving Slayton himself and still got engines.
    Then I tried it, and got the same result.
    Seems someone started reporting the peaceful resolution thing ages ago, and it's just been spread around ever since.
    Again - This was a month or two ago, so may have since been patched.

    • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Thanks' Vox! One of the things about Starfield that does annoy me is the lack of "accountability" in the game. Its seems like you can do whatever you want and there are no real consequences. This mission is one example. The fact that you can waste Slayton and still get to use his tech is just odd. Another big one is the Crimson Fleet quests. If you turn on the UC... nothing really happens. You can still freely travel UC space and people act like nothing is wrong. At the very least, you should get a permanent bounty or something. Its one way that Starfield falls short.

      @@TeamScorpioRII agree, looks like the CF option wasn’t well thought out. I went CF and that took the fun out of the game, limited options. Had to redo this in another play-through while chasing the engine upgrade. Skip the main quest and you’ll never see those engines and that’s an undesirable feature/bug.

    • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před 2 měsíci

      @@RB-xj4fg Yeah, I wish if you sided with CF, then the UC becomes hostile (ships, outposts, etc). Of course that would make sneaking around New Atlantis harder.. a new mechanic would have to be introduced for sneaking around (stealth ship??). Or if you side with CF, then Constellation is forced to relocate to the eye (they would be seen as harboring fugitives) and that becomes your new base of operations.

    Consider taking 4 6830 with the pinch A8 an a weapon setup that you can fully power. You still have > 5000 freight with max power shield and engine that need 20 points power 100 mobility and depending on crew and perk over 20 points for weapons… the A8 takes hull over 2100

      @@TeamScorpioRI 2 mve 250 Turrets with 8 powerpoints and a combo of manual and turret particle beams will work fine. Auto turret or beams don’t need max power to work fine but the 250 turrets need max pow and annihilate. 3 of them will wor if you use a combo that is needing fast reload or in a setup where you use manual weapons to capture ships and power down the turrets. The hull integrity of over 2000 is a nice thing to have in those situations. If not needed take a 40 point reactor and annihilate whatever is around you. I prefer distant fights with strafing and capture ships on moons. Xbox is more complicated to handle than pc. NG+ 13 is not very forgiving if you want to play on very hard all the time. Btw, is Vasco still negatively affecting your shields. No matter what I do as soon he is in my crew the shields go down and down. The 1600 shield has 2560 with my normal crew and with Vasco under 900 after a few save games.

    Just build with 3 3015's on a light ship and load up long range particle cannons. You're now invincible. You boost away, let your shields regenerate and reengage. I accidentally dropped into the Key, and had to kill all the ships before I could leave. No problem.

    • @TeamScorpioRI
      @TeamScorpioRI  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I had a previous build that used the 3015's, but the weapon set up was designed to capture ships. Just 4 PB-175's and then EM weapons to disable. I definitely want to do another speed build. I am also wondering if a "Tank" build is viable in this game. Just load up on shield and hull strength (no parts that don't give hull stats). I just don't know if that would work as well as it does in my head.

    • @turbo32coupe
      @turbo32coupe Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@TeamScorpioRI tank builds don't work as well as speed builds. Long range weapons are very overpowered. The .class "A" Vanguard Obliterator Autoprojector and the PBO-50 Auto Photon beam or the Obliterator 250 MeV are OP with a range greater than 4000 KM. If you build a light ship with 3 3015s you can fully power the shields and two weapons. Most other ships don't have the range to hit you. I play on 'very hard' and ship battles are no longer a challenge, no mater what level they are.

      Acceleration is one of the areas where you see a difference in the mobility, though I am not sure 15 mobility will see that much of a difference that it is worth $250k upgrades. I could be (and I probably am) wrong though.

      Agreed. Using thrusters can make that mobility brick downright snappy (says they guy with the 29 mobility 26000 cargo space semi) I accidentally winged a UC ship during a mission and EVERY ship in orbit over New Atlantis opened fire on me, there were at least three waves of enemies spawning in after that. Needless to say my space brick with the 6830s and 1600 shields survived all of that. It took over a half an hour to salvage all the resulting treasure 🙂) Thrusters are way under appreciated by most.
