Inside the REAL Casa Bonita from South Park
Vložit
- čas přidán 9. 03. 2015
- One of the most beloved episodes of South Park involves Cartman kidnapping his classmate Butters in order to nab his spot at a birthday party taking place at a Mexican restaurant called Casa Bonita. The restaurant in question has a haunted cave, mariachi bands, sopapillas, and cliff divers, you may think that it would only exist in a cartoon.
But don't be fooled: Casa Bonita is a real restaurant in Denver, Colorado, and all of the aspects of the restaurant included in that episode are real. (They actually left a lot of stuff out.) We enlisted the help of Mike Mason, the general manager who has worked there for nearly 40 years, to give us a tour of the 52,000-square-foot restaurant and fill us in on its long history. By the end of our visit, you'll understand why the place is known as "The Most Exciting Restaurant in the World."

Denver native and it’s hard to express what this place means. We’ve all made fun of it, but we’ve never turned down an opportunity to enjoy cafeteria food with unlimited sopapillas. It’s pure nostalgia and I can’t wait for the reopening in May.
On the nose!
Not even from the states, but I know some Denver natives. They all love to give Casa Bonita a load of shit up when one of them says they're going, everyone else tags on and is all giddy about it.
I had lived near to the Casa Bonita for a good portion of my childhood and yet I've still never been inside it. I feel like one of those New Yorkers who had never visited the statue of liberty. My family wouldn't let me go because they went there before I was born and said they'd never go again because they thought the food was bad so I missed out. When I was a kid I was way more interested in that little magic shop that was right next to the Casa Bonita anyway.
I hope that store is still running. The guy who owned it was so nice, and would always take the time to show me some neat magic tricks. One time I bought some stuff when I was 8 or 9 and gave him money for it and he gave me change, and didn't realize til I got home that I had more money than when I went there, and he had somehow slipped me extra money without me noticing. Such a nice guy.

I grew up going here alot. I think it's crazy that the south park creators ended up saving it. After going to real authentic Mexican restaurants I realized the food there isn't Mexican at all and much closer to Taco Bell's "Mexican food". But it will still always hold a special place in my heart as a Colorado treasure.
I went there with my brother while we were driving cross country in 1979. Our dad had suggested we stop there. We had a table in the Cliff Area, where we had a great view of the divers. "The wishing well has a monster at the bottom."
He looks like a drunk Captain Planet... who took the restaurants tequila down to zero.
Earth!
Wind!
Water!
Fire!
Tacos!
"...so you're gonna want to check that out"
I thought he was gonna say mecca leka hi mecca hiney ho.
I was going to say more like a drunk Eric Andre cosplaying as Captain Planet...
That thing made me cry when I was little.
So funny how they bank off the fact that they were in South Park.
"This is our Cartman table"
They really don't, he was talking about the architecture choices inspired by churches and the director cut him off like "IS THAT THE CARTMAN TABLE"
Yeah he was just trying to explain the rich history of the place and the crew is just “Is that the Cartman table”. They must get that a lot.
Trust me they were booming way before that episode came out, it literally changed nothing.
If I ever get married I want to travel through the United Sates as part of my honey moon...you bet your ass I am going to Denver and asking for the Cartman table
@@greciabarraza4986 this sounds like a "what if we kissed at the cartman table😳" joke
As a kid I use to go there all the time. The waterfall, cave, and puppet shows give me such a good feeling. I wish I could go back someday.
Woo! Trey and Matt own this place now!
When you aren’t from the area, the day you discover Casa Bonita is a real place is very spiritual and astounding; Like the birth of a child, but with Black Bart’s Cave and cliff-divers.
You nailed it. I thought it was some cheesy themed restaurant in a bad neighborhood made up by Tray and Matt. Learning it actually exists made me want to fly out to Denver exclusively to visit Casa Bonita.
Just imagine being paid just to jump off a rock
Best job ever
I mean...
1- it’s extremely tiring. Imagine having to jump for like 2 hours straight without taking a break. Your legs will get fatigued.
2- it’s risky and dangerous.
3- I bet the dudes who jump don’t get paid a lot. Maybe a bit over minimum wage.
It aint much, but it’s honest work. Put some respek on it.
Thats actually a job in La quebrada Acapulco here in México, very famous turist spot.
Not a job you'd wanna show up drunk, that's for sure.
@@jacklonsandoval7451 tourist still go there? The place is a warzone
Im only here cause the south park creators are trying to buy it. LOL 🤣
dude same lmao
Ditto. I'm beating myself up for not knowing this place existed when I went to Colorado for a vacation. This place looks amazing.
Just found out this place is real because the creators of South Park are tryna buy it 😂 OKAY I TOTALLY SEE THE HYPE IN THIS PLACE😳 my family would love it, please expand casa bonita in more places!
I could totally see one of these just chilling in Orlando
