Michael Graziano I still don't understand why he thinks merging skills was a good Idea. LISTEN maces, axes and swords ARE NOT THE SAME there are so many other differences other than swing speed. I myself have never used a mace (I used some type of club once but that isn't the same) In my experience an Axe needs to be swung with more strict movements and precise swings, A sword can be used more freely. I think they should have gone with a skill system similar to morrowinds, However I think Short-Blade and longs blade should just be one skill. In my opinion the combat skills should be Light Armor, Heavy Armor, Medium Armor, Blade, Blunt, and Axe. When I saw the skyrim bonus content I just said to myself "why did I watch this this is bassically 5 minutes of bethesda saying fuck you fans".
He is still a great guy. I don't understand why some folks hate him. The games that are directed by Todd are awesome. They have the adventure feel. And making a big game is no small feat. A lot of sacrifices happened.
Well, some of us that love the older games, hate that some of the new features of the new games, came at the expense of features we loved. Example, Morrowind's menus vs Skyrims. Morrowind, you left click, and everything is in front of you, you can click on whatever you want immediately. Amazing for PCs, bad for console. Skyrims UI is designed to be navigated by joysticks, and its very unintuitive on PC. Morrowind didn't have quest markers. You had to actually glean information from the world to get there. Like asking an NPC, or reading a signpost. It felt more immersive because that's how real life would work. No GPS in Tamriel. And then the dialogue systems. Morrowind's is definitely outdated in its lack of voiceovers or animation, but the basic way it works i think is superior. You ask the person the things you want to know, and that's it. No sitting there and repeatedly listening to something you don't care about, and then picking from 4 answers, repeat, until they actually talk about the thing you wanted to talk about. So yea, If you love those things like some of us do, you miss them. Everyone just sees the business end of things, but I'll bet most of that comes from Microsoft and Zenimax. Not from Todd and BGS. Miguel Pereira Yeah, theoretically it is. But I don't know anybody who makes 3D game art simply by writing code. Not to menton, it would take, a really, really long time. Trust me, I'm a 3d artist.
Everything gets compiled into code. 3D games usually are made out of 3D models, scripts, and textures. Then they get compiled into a language then that language gets compiled into an executable.
I think you should look forward to starfield. They literally made that game just to test new technologies and their new engine and prepare those things for TES6.
i remember when morrowind came out, it was not as popular and as anticipated title as skyrim for example was, but man, was it a mindblowing game. i was so addicted to it. and great thing is, im also playing it right now in 2017 thanx to mods. and it looks like only few years old game. but nostalgia kicks in the same. with oblivion, already there was cult following, and with skyrim things went out of control, in a good way of course. i also played the first 2 games before morrowind, but i played it casually and didnt care a lot about em in that time. but with release of morrowind, this series became something glorious in my life. i just wish they bring back complexity and tabletop rpg feeling of the morrowind, in the next game. dont get me wrong, i love all 3 titles equally, i could not pick one, but while many things became better with oblivion, and then again even more with skyrim, other things suffered, and got, dare i say "dumbed down". like complexity of gameplay, leveling system, and hardcoreness of the game itself. anyway, im sure when next game gets announcement, it will be the most anticipated title in the video game history (what half-life 3? :P ).
I love his comment at the end ; you see a box with Bethesda on it, And you know what's gonna be in it. It's not gonna be great , but it's gonna be crazy and fun in some respect. (I think I got most of that quote right)
When i played skyrim i liked it BUT i always felt like there could have been more there are many types of gamers casuals, and not-casual i don't know what to cal non casual gamers every gamer deserves to have there own experience i went back to play morrowind such a good game...And i realize how casual the series is don't get me wrong skyrim is not casual but fallout 4 is but ive always been more of a elder scrolls fan and i hope they nail tes 6 on the head but they can only do so much and i understand that.
"big, crazy, and cool" exactly what a great game is all about. Here's a man that loves games and makes them the way he wants to play 'em. God forbid gaming goes to way of film where a bunch of bean counters run the industry and there are far too few truly epic movies. I am addicted to Skyrim and the immersion of the experience. There isnt a time I've played where I don't catch myself marveling at the details and depth of the world. Truly awesome. Thank you Mr. Howard
He was actually dumbing down the series, see the interviews he gives or how some talk about him, he is the guy who likes to roam around killing stuff, he does not really care about complexity or depth in games, he only cares about making his character look/feel cool and badass. And he is a liar.
Lucas V it's sad to say, but I agree with you. and it's sad cause I remember playing morrowind and just being absorbed in that world and reading about oblivion just filled me with wonder with all the amazing things they were going to accomplish. Todd Howard was like my hero then. But when oblivion came out, all i saw were the things that weren't there that were promised and the things from morrowind that were silently snuffed out.
Skyrim was greatly executed. Games like these enriches ppls lives. I was hoping to play a role playing game that I actually looked forward diving into. This game hit the spot for me. The leveling up, discovering locations, very rewarding.
so you said "skyrim is an awesome role-playing game, it hit the spot for me", then you said "it got boring after 100hrs" actually play the game through and decide if it's worth it to replay rather than going back on what you said
sillyninja65 It's great now since they've added Tamriel Unlimited! Quite impressive, and also, you must look at it as an MMo before you look at it as an Elder Scrolls game. It's hard to maintain such a high quality when there is millions of players.
TheCptQuebec millions of people played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim thus your argument does not make sense at all. World of Warcraft has high quality standarts and I think if a game wears the Elder Scrolls name you should work your arse off to make that game great. It does not have to be perfect but it has to be in a state were you can say "yes it's well made".
World of Warcraft has been there for more than 10 years. The lore had time to get better and there was a lot of patches to make it the game it is now. Give it some time, it'll get good.
terminator future shock was my first Bethesda game. my next was fallout 3. it was some time after skyrim that I found out that that old game was bethesda. such a great company
The one thing I reall miss in the Elder scrolls games is the ability to MIX spells together. That is throw a fireball and you can add lighting or even frost damage to it also, now its only on weapons. Last time you could do that sort of thing was on Morrowind, i REALLY miss that feature.
different main story line for each race and different ending for each one would be a start, and when you legendary each skill you get the dragonborn skill and plz make it awesome when you get it, and make it possible to lvl up legendary by searching in dungeons more, and not follow the arrow to be rewarded, got more to say but goota check WSH! (Unknown Soldier) (?) REEL TALK !!!
Travis Devereux I played Fallout 3... And.. To be Honest.... I.... Did not liked it that much, But i am waiting for Fallout 4 Because it looks amazing and i bought a ps4... so i want to play it so much!
New Order Future How so? They improved everything! Shooting, the removal of the retarded skill system and replaced it with a really interesting looking perk tree, voiced character for better story, 50 weapons with 700 mods, and even fucking world building! Yep, sure does look like pure shit lol XD
I like his closing comments, that because of their PC background, they like to experiment and try crazy things, and even if things don't work 100% polished and flawlessly, it's sure to be "big and crazy and interesting!"... Here here!
+Daniel Gandara it was before the 360 had been announced so there was no reason to think it would be anything other than 2 and would just follow linear numbers in order like playstation did
They tried for the first time making a multiplayer game and it wasn't perfection. That doesn't make him the devil. TES6 and Starfield are going to be awesome.
is it possible to make a game that is working together with skyrim? like that you can go through a portal to get to hammerfell? to solve the issue of big game files: if you save your skyrim savegame in the portal area you would be able to start that savegame in the hammerfell game? so that you would have al your items etc? so you could roam through nirn, that would be so awesome. feel free to steal the idea, i want this to happen.
+Adam Burgess I played Oblivion first, then Skyrim and only then Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind, and my favourite game is Morrowind. The reason why I personally prefer Morrowind is because it has stronger RPG elements than Oblivion and Skyrim; and exploring Vvardenfell and its culture in Morrowind is more interesting than exploring Tamriel in Arena or Illiac Bay in Daggerfall.
I'd call it devolution in terms of gameplay, evolution in terms of polish. Too bad they remove mechanics and features that make the early elder scrolls game so compelling.
Cenot4ph Let's hope they put some back in the next game. I would love for there to be spell creation, levitation spells, the blade and blunt skill as opposed to one and two handed skill, silver weapons besides from one specific questline, and the ability to smash open locks with weapons.
Cenot4ph They rather cut them out than improve these aspects, if it is someone to blame is Todd Howard himself, the standard player does not like complexity or depth in their games, makes their head hurt, the future are polished games but that has the depth of a free to play mobile game.

@@AngieAJ eh...I don’t necessarily agree with that. I mean look at “No Mans Sky” for example. It was pretty rushed and a had a really bad launch, but now it’s a highly praised and reviewed game. Things can change. It may take time, but they can always eventually change.
@@knightarmy5661 i just used a quote from one of the most well known people within the game industry. A good game takes time and care to prepare. No matter how good the graphics are, a rushed game has a bad core.

Those hand shots were creepy.
It blows my mind how people can dislike Todd. He's just an awesome nerd like us who loves games, and him and everyone at BGS are professionals, artists, and nerds, and are great at what they do. Everyone just sees the business end of things, but I'll bet most of that comes from Microsoft and Zenimax. Not from Todd and BGS. They have to deal with bad executive decisions just like us fans do, if not a whole lot more.
Take your time with TES6, Todd. Skyrim, Fo4, and 76 are still great games.
Todd Howard doing it right.
The Elder Scrolls is Probably one Favourite Game Series of all time.
Todd Howard is truly an inspiration. I hope I can be somewhat like him.
Who else is watching this in 2017 and still waiting for TES6?
+Slundermen that is why we are waiting
I made this account just so I can comment it'll be a year or three, honestly. Give them time to make it amazing
yup lol
Yup! Restores faith in the company. Makes it like they have a good head on their shoulders and after seeing what happened recently, I think things may be looking up :D
Still waiting
If I had a nickel for every random fuckin shot of his hands I'd be as rich as the US debt.
I'm curious to whether he is a Storm-cloak or a milk-drinker.
Is there a difference?
I thought storm cloaks were the milk drinkers
Jonathan Mello wait are we talking about star wars or the elder Scrolls now?
Logan Venters No, just Skyrim. The Imperials on SW are fine
Jonathan Mello oh ok...
Damn,6 years ago and i'm still playing the game, the series is so timeless.
Been playing this game series since Arena on the day it came out, sounded brilliant on my advanced GRAVIS Ultrasound card. :)
What did you think of Arena when it came out? I played it recently and didn’t exactly hold up
I swear Every time this man talks, it changes the way you se everything
This guy looks like he could be a love child of Steve Carell and Lionel Messi
I'm not too sure, but I think Todd Howard may be older than Steve Carell, or at least within brother age range.
Todd's the spitting image of a kid I went to high school with... Or, I should say, the kid is the spitting image of Todd. The kid's name was David. I forget what his last name was, not that'd I'd post it anyway. They also sound identical. Kinda creepy... WHAT IF TODD CAN TIME TRAVEL!!! Skyrim's time travel plot is based on Todd's own experience! Well i can see a lot of similarities between todd and michael scott

Morrowind have yet to play but I'm hyped to try the game out.
In conclusion I been Playing those two games since release and not bored yet. Masterfully crafted games best open world experiences by far I can say enough about those games there so good I hope the newest elder scrolls is both offline and online or just offline the only open world universe in gaming i spend the most time in
I often forget that Skyrim is just a bunch of code lines 0_0
Ianis Guillaume not only that! there is much more to it like lore dialogue culture art etc.
+Commander Shepard Of The Normandy SR-2 everything processed throught a computer is code
Miguel Pereira
Yeah, theoretically it is.
I often forget that TES by Bethesda is just a bunch of code lines :)
Please stop cutting features Todd. Removing levitation and spell making added nothing to the games and just removed options.
Have you never played tribunal? It makes you understand why they got rid of levitate
During this interview, Daggerfall was the same age as Oblivion is now. Feel old yet?
I really hope es6 will be amazing. I know bethesda can do better than they have been in the last few years
I think you should look forward to starfield. They literally made that game just to test new technologies and their new engine and prepare those things for TES6.
Of course it will, the game is in development it has been years, the only thing to expect is at least something decent and nice like skyrim.
2:15 ah yes! The back of Todd’s head!
ALL HAIL NEREVARINE
So when's the Xbox 2 coming out?
i remember when morrowind came out, it was not as popular and as anticipated title as skyrim for example was, but man, was it a mindblowing game. i was so addicted to it. and great thing is, im also playing it right now in 2017 thanx to mods. and it looks like only few years old game. but nostalgia kicks in the same. with oblivion, already there was cult following, and with skyrim things went out of control, in a good way of course. i also played the first 2 games before morrowind, but i played it casually and didnt care a lot about em in that time. but with release of morrowind, this series became something glorious in my life.
i just wish they bring back complexity and tabletop rpg feeling of the morrowind, in the next game. dont get me wrong, i love all 3 titles equally, i could not pick one, but while many things became better with oblivion, and then again even more with skyrim, other things suffered, and got, dare i say "dumbed down". like complexity of gameplay, leveling system, and hardcoreness of the game itself. anyway, im sure when next game gets announcement, it will be the most anticipated title in the video game history (what half-life 3? :P ).
I love his comment at the end ; you see a box with Bethesda on it,
And you know what's gonna be in it.
It's not gonna be great , but it's gonna be crazy and fun in some respect. (I think I got most of that quote right)
Basically got it man!
He's so humble haha
When i played skyrim i liked it BUT i always felt like there could have been more there are many types of gamers casuals, and not-casual i don't know what to cal non casual gamers every gamer deserves to have there own experience i went back to play morrowind such a good game...And i realize how casual the series is don't get me wrong skyrim is not casual but fallout 4 is but ive always been more of a elder scrolls fan and i hope they nail tes 6 on the head but they can only do so much and i understand that.
7:33 "we try a lot of crazy stuff that sometimes we shouldn't have tried" *cough cough* Elder scrolls online *cough cough*
His last quote sums up their games so perfectly.
Howard
"it makes it a little bit more sexy now, they werent dragon hunters from 1000's of years ago"-Todd Howard 😂
where can I get that morrowind cutout
YES! Finally some fellow Stargate fans!
To this day i still want that power armor staue in the background
the man of a thousand camera angles
I don't think Todd was trying to casualize the series. He was merely cutting the fat out.
So he wants to make the game look like a chick instead of a fat nerd?
Oscar Branko Miljkovic Two bombs weren't enough
PFFFFFFFFFFF-F-F-F-F
It just works.
Skyrim was greatly executed. Games like these enriches ppls lives. I was hoping to play a role playing game that I actually looked forward diving into. This game hit the spot for me. The leveling up, discovering locations, very rewarding.
Oscar Branko Miljkovic actually skyrim got boring after 100 hours now.
so you said "skyrim is an awesome role-playing game, it hit the spot for me", then you said "it got boring after 100hrs" actually play the game through and decide if it's worth it to replay rather than going back on what you said
Michael Malone naw I think I saw enough. Tombs, caves. It feels like I seen everything
@@jaulloa21 huh, wonder why people are still playing it 10+ years in...weird
Think I've watched this 2 gazillion times by now.
Skyrim...where I live when I am not in the real world
Todd howard is just epic, but they all must off been really pissed when they realise how bad zenimax made the elder scrolls online
sillyninja65 It's great now since they've added Tamriel Unlimited!
KingCorny93 he means millions of players on servers at once, not millions of people playing an offline bethesda game, entirely different things
World of Warcraft has been there for more than 10 years. The lore had time to get better and there was a lot of patches to make it the game it is now. Give it some time, it'll get good.
sillyninja65 It really isn't that bad...
terminator future shock was my first Bethesda game. my next was fallout 3. it was some time after skyrim that I found out that that old game was bethesda. such a great company
The one thing I reall miss in the Elder scrolls games is the ability to MIX spells together. That is throw a fireball and you can add lighting or even frost damage to it also, now its only on weapons. Last time you could do that sort of thing was on Morrowind, i REALLY miss that feature.
mods...

different main story line for each race and different ending for each one would be a start, and when you legendary each skill you get the dragonborn skill and plz make it awesome when you get it, and make it possible to lvl up legendary by searching in dungeons more, and not follow the arrow to be rewarded, got more to say but goota check WSH! (Unknown Soldier) (?) REEL TALK !!!
the basic *NUT* of the game
Anyone else watch this because they are hyped for Fallout?
Hyped? It looks like pure shit compared to all the others. Id even play fallout 3 over that.
+Xx simone xX the world doesnt look like shit only charcaters are kinda bad lookin

Game series. You phrase it as if arena is the best game they ever made.
is it possible to make a game that is working together with skyrim? like that you can go through a portal to get to hammerfell? to solve the issue of big game files: if you save your skyrim savegame in the portal area you would be able to start that savegame in the hammerfell game? so that you would have al your items etc? so you could roam through nirn, that would be so awesome.
feel free to steal the idea, i want this to happen.
5:53 that's how you do fantasy. take something familiar and give it a twist
Company can't making money if there don't respects the employer. Bethesda i'm proud of you son ^_^
Oblivion and Skyrim are great, but I've noticed the more fanatical TES'ers usually gravitate towards Morrowind or Daggerfall.
It's because they played them first when they were young, and didn't like the change of pace from the newest two.
Skyrim wasn't great at all.
How? Skyrim was fantastic, I don't care what you say.
Skyrim was a great game, Adam! Oblivion, in hindsight, has that great TES feel but the aesthetics are very generic. Morrowind still has my heart!
+Adam Burgess I played Oblivion first, then Skyrim and only then Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind, and my favourite game is Morrowind. The reason why I personally prefer Morrowind is because it has stronger RPG elements than Oblivion and Skyrim; and exploring Vvardenfell and its culture in Morrowind is more interesting than exploring Tamriel in Arena or Illiac Bay in Daggerfall.
i love this man
0:39 that shift from an awkward grin into a serious face kills me each time
Oh Todd, how you've changed...
Todd never changed. FO76 was outsourced, he did not develop it
I'd call it devolution in terms of gameplay, evolution in terms of polish.
Elder scrolls Got me into game Developing.
Good job brosuff
