    Maybe I’m wrong but I suspect that those Kushite archers would’ve mostly likely been highly paid mercenaries which being a mercenary is a little different than actually being apart of the actual military.

      I’d imagine the main difference is quite big.
      1- Roman legionaries are full-time soldiers.

    I'm pretty sure numidians are black and there were several numidian cavalry units and also Numidian legionaires

    One contemporary physical description of a eastern Roman emperor included the phrase “in colour an Ethiopian”
    Another emperor’s description included “with eyes, hair and complexion so dark he was known as 'the Moor'.”

      I don't know but at 0:06 it does not depict correct history at 0:26 I have never seen or read of a Palace that tall built against such high a cliff face and at 0:31 no such landscape can exist so just some fantasy art work from somebody with a good bit of talent.

    You could easily have mentioned the reports of African soldiers serving in the Eboracum Garrison

      The word African meant something different back then.
      Rome called the area around Carthage, Africa. North Africa was called Libya (except Egypt) .
      Sub-Saharan Africa was called Aetheopia.
      Sub-Saharan Africans were refered to as Aetheopians (it means burnt-face in Greek).
      While people from the province that we call Carthage, were called Africans by the Romans.
      So when the Romans said African, they meant people from the former area of Carthage.
      If they meant Sub-Saharan African, they would have said Aetheopian.

      North Africa don't really count as they where of mixed ancestry mabey he should have said Sub Saharan Africa and thair where probably a few, but most of the time you had to be a Roman citizen.

      Back then Africa was today's northern half of Tunisia and a small north-western parr of Libya. So anyone "african" was specifically from those provinces, not today'a Algeria, nor Morocco.

      North Africa was all lads of Phoenician, Greek, Roman and Egyptian descent.
      The modern black man is descended from the sub saharan african and nubians, groups which only migrated North long after the fall of the byzantines

      There were lots of African emperors. The problem is, Africa was the name of a Roman province.
      The word didn't mean what it means today.
      In those times, they used the word, Aetheopian to refer to Sub-Saharan Africans.

      Rome was a very mixed and/or interracial Empire they conquered the surrounding Mediterranean and peoples from all countries and walks of life served in their army and yes emperor Septimius Severus was dark skin
