    Didn't mention the specific schedule, so it'll be a new video every Wednesday now, instead of the Tuesday and Thursday I was doing :)

    •  Před 17 dny +8

      You could consider going the vsauce route and creating a second channel (dong in this analogy) where you feel more comfortable producing "low effort" content - if the pressure of keeping up the quality with the quantity is part of the problem for you.

      You're the best Kevin! BradTraversy did this stuff until his health became a serious issue. I think part of his solution was having other people come to his channel and create stuff, almost like a freeCodeCamp vibe.
      Maybe in your case, you could work on projects with other content developers? For example, I am a frontend dude who has been working with senior backend peeps. I benefit because they just don't have time to get as deep into the frontend as I do.
      Just in case you are looking for something different!
      Btw, just wore my "Making the internet a little bit more awesome" tank top to the bar last night!
      Cheers and best of luck with everything!

    I'm glad you're not switching to tailwind, as it makes your content more approachable for everyone and not just tailwind devs.

    • @Warface
      @Warface Před 17 dny +67

      Tailwind doesn't help you at all at creating and understanding the base of CSS. It's just a cluster F of classes in element making harder to read and debugging since each classes makes only one thing. Pure CSS / SCSS is king

    • @arxci9402
      @arxci9402 Před 17 dny +26

      @Warface if you want to spend 20 minutes coming up with some weird class name that's similar to something but slightly different just so you can style your div in a css file, then be my guest

    • @sideral
      @sideral Před 17 dny +27

      @@arxci9402I’ve never understood the “naming is hard” argument, I never spend more than a few seconds doing it, if I find a better name later, then changing it is easy with current tooling and I also use css selectors so I often only need to name the parent element, which is ok because component markup is often simple. Meanwhile, Tailwind looks like a mess to me.

    • @shaneaudinett8464
      @shaneaudinett8464 Před 17 dny +10

      @@arxci9402 20 Seconds to come up with a "weird" class name? Hyperbole and straw man fallacy. Nice work.

    • @arxci9402
      @arxci9402 Před 17 dny

      @shaneaudinett8464 didn't realize this was the Supreme Court, lol. It doesn't change the fact that when you're on a larger team, it gets complicated to not only keep it consistent but also make sense. Anyone who's used css knows that class names are annoying. Not only that, but tailwind has pre determined styles and standards that make consistency, reusability, and customization much easier. Abstracting most of the time, a lot of more code to a separate file, doesn't make it easier to read by any means and is ultimately pointless. So, not only do you need to figure out a consistent and clear name; you need to navigate to another folder, find that name, and then you can read your css, which by the way still exists and isnt magicslly gone because its not in the HTML, when instead you could find your div or whatever and directly modify the styles? The only reason people argue that one is easier than the other is because it's what they're used to. Additionally, tailwind applies a standard style reset to ensure you're following font accessibility standards with the expectation that this stuff gets updated to meet new standards . You can customize everything you need to and even still use css. There literally no reason not to use it and complaining about harder to read code as if the styles magically disappear when you throw them into a separate file is dishonest, especially when one tailwind class can combine numerous css styles

    I remember the times when you were not doing this full time and I really feel nostalgic about it. I was just starting to learn CSS and most of your videos back then were exactly for beginners to learn the basics of CSS. Then, you started making videos for people who've already mastered the basics (and of course this is normal since you already covered the basics), then at one point it became your full time job. I just wanted to say thank you for your work with this channel, because I learned so much from you. Also the way you teach is great - so beginner friendly and friendly in general.

I feel your situation, because I’m in the middle of it right now. 3 kids, the two younger ones don’t go to school yet. So all my attention goes to them. Being a father, a husband and focus on your own stuff, is top tier dedication my friend. Many people underestimate how heavy it can be. You’re far more productive than on a day job. I (along with a lot of people, I'm sure) would much rather have less videos a week with a better topic choice and giving you more free time to do your stuff than forcing more videos and making you, the creator, unhappy, I laughed at the first part of the video cause a part of me was actually expecting something Tailwind-related, i really think that could be a cool topic for the future tho. Can relate to this so much. When I made the switch to making fulltime educational content I also expected to make so much more content. Well.. Turned out that wasn't true. I think once you start doing this fulltime, you're not only making videos anymore but you are really building a business. That involves not only making the video, but doing so many things around it too.
    I think of all those 'side quests' you're doing while building on your business, as the work bamboo does when it's growing underneath the soil. It takes years to grow the roots, and then after these years it suddenly shoots up and grows at an insane rate. Those other things you're doing are time consuming, but definitely worth working on too :) At least this applies to me - perhaps to you too. Hope you see some value in it.

    It's tuff working from home. I gave up my advertising career in 2005 to look after my daughter who is confined to a wheelchair; take her to school and home again. Then the same for University where I would drop her off and pick her up again an hour later. It's now 2024 and I'm still working from home managing what few clients I have left, updating their websites and adding new content when requested. By the way I'm 68 now and still loving the challenge of knocking together websites with BBedit and programming in CSS, PHP and MYSQL.

    I'd rather have one video a week than you getting burned out and stopping. Thank you so much for doing these great videos

    Great work shifting mid stride.
    I struggle with self directed productivity as a self employed person for the last 25 years. I've done everything from one man gigs to having 20 folks working for me.
    One of the few "truths" I've found is a task will take the time it is allotted.
    Another is perfection is the thief of production.
    It's a constant battle to accept B+ work from myself and move to the next task, but life really moves in that practice.

    You are great, Kevin, and every video you post has value. I've learned responsive design based on your course. Can't thank you enough. 😊
    Also, I am loving coding in vanilla CSS.
    Best of luck! 🚀
