Nice video and so much information that you have provided, I just want to say that I am not a Honda owner but my mother has a 2012 crv that she got with 50k miles back then and now at 200k miles it drives great and same with my little sis and her 2012 civic coupe idk how many miles she had when she got it but now over 170k and runs great too, ive always been a car guy and at 39 years of age I still love to drive my cars on coilovers sitting low cruising, after my car accident on my Saab I was looking at some Si but let me say, they are way too overpriced even with high millage and not to mention a new one is insane$$$ I know that they are reliable but not for an arm or a leg, its weird how I somehow every once in a while I find myself watching a Honda video like this and even better a video with information, showes a product, and had the results with proof of the results.

    From the looks of the pre made maps and how lean they still are. If you are running with a high flow filter stock airbox and an axle back would you be slightly better off running a rai tune on the car just to be safe having it figure for slightly more airflow so you don't run lean? Or would you still be better off with a "stock reflash" from hondata?

    I am on my 4th 8th gen Si. My 1st 3 were all bone stock. My current 09 FA5 had 42k miles on it when I purchased it 2 years ago (122k now). In the trunk was the stock airbox (K&N v2 on car), a brand new Mugen shift knob, and my very 1st Hondata Flashpro! I have read and researched so much on tuning... this video was by far the most informative. Thanks for taking the time to make this Nick! Question... I want to run 16:1 afr cruising on the highway in 6th gear. Is this possible? My 2 cents to you... lightweight wheels made a HUGE difference in accel and braking for me. • @lcq4blackstar
    @lcq4blackstar Před 3 lety

    Thanks for the tips Nick! Is there an editable formula for the "AFR corrected" display or was it set and locked by Hondata? I thought I saw a formula scaler somewhere before to adjust this display against my AEM WB so that I could calculate it to an exact AFR reading when logging but am unable to find it now. I know I can go in and enable the WB logging on an input signal that is disabled under "lambda settings" but plan to get the "AFR corrected" calculated then remove the AEM unit from the vehicle.

    • @tuningbynick
      @tuningbynick  Před 3 lety

      In all honesty i have never tried adjusting the "corrected" value. In my experience, you always have to question wideband readings. You can never blindly believe what they are reading. If 2 sensors are showing different values, one of them is not working correctly and should try and determine why they are reading differently

    • @lcq4blackstar
      @lcq4blackstar Před 3 lety

      @@tuningbynick Agreed Nick BUT the "corrected" AFR is an offset reading of the stock WB sensor as can be seen in a log by displaying both AFR display and corrected AFR display, this was done by Hondata by reading a known good stock sensor then applying a correction factor to give a display reading much closer to the actual AFR then the stock sensor shows in a richer than stoich condition.
      For instance having both displays up in a log under closed loop will show (in my case)14.7 AFR and 14.9 corrected AFR... then in boost 10.8 AFR is equal to 12.15 corrected AFR, as the AFR goes richer the offset becomes larger. Under lambda settings you can choose to target the corrected AFR reading when using the lambda overlay functions on the fuel map tables. Given the limitation on the stock WB reading under any/all situations logging an aftermarket WB is going to show 2 different values, choosing the AEM WB as long as it has been calibrated is the correct choice to rely on IMO.
      Surely you have a dedicated WB for the dyno when tuning that you trust the readings an can compare the stock sensor to?
      I'm almost finished wiring up the AEM WB harness back into the car, I will see if I can make a video with Hondata running live with all 3 WB displays running - AFR/corrected AFR/AEM input to hondata AFR along with the physical gauge readings, who knows maybe there is something there for video content you can film/discuss on your chanel?

    Hi, quick question. How long can I run basemap before getting it tuned properly? tyty

    • @tuningbynick
      @tuningbynick  Před 3 lety

      The best thing to do is collect all your mods and then install then and then go right away for a tune - There really is no good reason to drive around on a basemap

    Out of pure curiosity, I'd love to see the effects of water, meth, or water/meth injection on an N/A application w/ pump gas! Definitely on the expensive side for "testing" but I'd be curious to see if it's a legitimate alternative for us Canadians with minimal access to E85. And if the gains would be similar to E85.

    • @tuningbynick
      @tuningbynick  Před 3 lety

      In all honesty I am not a fan of water meth kits. I’ve tuned countless setups with water meth over the years. It definitely won’t get you the same results as e85. Water meth won’t help make more power. It just lets you go a bit beyond what the knock limitations of pump gas and allows you to run more timing. That being said. If the water meth system has a failure. It’s usually catastrophic for the engine. By comparison - e85 is oxygenated and has a higher knock limit. Usually you can make more power on e85 just because it’s oxygenated and then also run more timing making even more power

    Good video however why does graph dip down and then go back up?

    • @tuningbynick
      @tuningbynick  Před 3 lety

      Any humps or dips are usually caused by an air flow resonance within the intake system. Usually long vs short intakes will have these humps and dips in different spots. I should be able to see how the hump and dip move around with different intake air pipes when I do the intake comparison video.

      Thanks - The OEM clutch is surprisingly good, if they are in good shape they can hold a good amount of power - If its warn our tho, i really like the comp stage 2 clutch
