I don’t understand some of the comments here - Bach said his music was there to elevate the spirit, so if there is only one person, who likes this (and there are many, apparently), it is in Bach’s spirit. Also, his music is universal in its construction and does not need to be limited by choice of instrument. This performance is marvellous and displays both the unbelievable technique of the performer and the eternal, all-encompassing musical genius of Bach. Thank you.
Bach's Chaconne has been transferred pretty much for every musical instrument in the universe (even the human voice, Bobby McFerrin), traditional classical or not, but this is the first time have the opportunity to hear it interpreted with a 'humble' recorder, and it sounds divine. I guess only the great Horacio Franco could've done the miracle. Thank for sharing. Cheers.
Yeah, people do not realize that this is only playable on a violin... of course, there will be things that does not sound so sweet because he is emulating on such instrument.
I can't believe my ears... for one that knows this piece well it comes over as a masterpiece for the recorder... incredible.. the arpeggios came over perfectly.. I agree completely about how the cords were played.. true the violin can handle two cords at a time.. one less than the recorder.. a fifth of what a piano can do.. don't like busoni... I'm happy!
@Hajnalka4 not sure. maybe youre right he's just showing off, although i feel intonation is off or maybe some things just cannot be transcribed to certain instruments
I find this response slightly arrogant. Can you provide details on what is exactly what you don't like and what you as a trained musician can do that Horacio is failing to accomplish?
So you wouldn't want it heard on any one line instrument? A violin can hardly accomplish non-arpeggiated chords, and a xylophone certainly can play whole chords, so is that really your issue? The recorder was an instrument of Bach's time, one he composed for, and one that requires, like any other instrument, intense musicianship to handle. The expression he creates here is amazing, especially coming from an instrument so difficult to work dynamically. Rethink the recorder, it's great.
Totally humbling technique and interesting interpretation of a beautiful piece. I suppose Bach may be turning in his grave over some of the parts though :)
I must admit that his technique is admirable but I think that it would be more adequate not to try to imitate the quadruple-stopped chords of a violin, but to transcribe it for a recorder duet or something like this. A magnificent performance though by an amazing artist.
Probably because of prejudice due to appearance. must have worked quite hard to transpose this to recorder and play it so virtuosic. Unavoidably he makes some mistakes, and of course those faster parts especially don't sound like the original and he must make mistakes with such an instrument. probably some also thinks some things shouldn't be meddled with and kept as it is. I don't like the appearance of the man myself too, but i must that its a very hard piece to play, especially with recorder.
@themusicdr I wonder why this sounds terrible, perhaps he lacks every humility towards the piece he is playing, and just thinking about himself, and him playing it and showing off... because he is not out of tune, and not too bad with technique either, but it still hurts to listen to... just simply a horrid performance...

Very very amazing!!! Floored!!!! Spectacular!!!!
24 people have no idea how incredible it is just to attempt this on recorder, let alone do a really admirable job of pulling it off!
Yeah, people do not realize that this is only playable on a violin...
of course, there will be things that does not sound so sweet because he is emulating on such instrument.
Felicidades noble Horacio.

@Dtotheworld Check out my Alto Recorder Improvisation video man, maybe you'll dig it...
why are there no awesome recorder videos on youtube?

Which is why I thumbs downed your comment, because it's narrow minded.

interesting that a recorder player can be controversial. At least there are interesting reactions to this interpretation..
super sucio tocando

This guy needs to learn how to play in tune.
....yes, it's really astonishing....it sounds terrifying!!!!! ...just BAD soundS!!!
oh dear oh dear, had to stop 1 min in - just terrible
Great technique, good musicality, but this peace sound awfull on recorder... this is only for the show...
