So much talent on display here, from all involved. The musicians, the Temptations vocals, the arrangement, and composer along with the lyricist. The real deal.
This is a masterpiece. Everything in the song, the intro, the arrangement, the voices, the rhythm, the lyrics everything tells a story, which is so strong.
My father was the opposite. Rock steady, there every day. Loved my mother (his wife of 48 years) and this children to death. He died 22 years ago today. What a man. 😢
I was in a hospital bed recovering from Hip Surgery recently...this young fella was singing..he sounded good...he came into my room and I asked him to play this song. He obliged and shimmied around my bed..and I was moving the top half of my body as I sat up in bed. It was one of the highlights of my stay. Joyous and healing...thank you Jude!!

60's and 70's people would sit around the television and watch popular bands play their music while watching people dance to each song. Today, people watch 30 second videos of a couple of people dancing to a 30 second snippet of music and feel satisfied.
There are no words to describe this group!!! I grew up listening to them, I have their music on cassettes!! I come here every couple of days to get my fix of this song!! That bass, those horns and then those smooth, golden voices!! It's 2024 and this music STILL stands up today!! Those outstanding lyrics, just wow!!
is there a better arrangement of a song than this? the strings, that bass line, Wah Wah in my left ear. an all time favorite since I was a youngster. Temps.
With the way that intro cooks for as long and as hard as it does, I know The Temptations knew they were making a hit from the beginning... but I doubt they knew it would be a "Still playing this on purpose in the year 2023 and beyond" timeless classic. A hit that someone like me born well after the song released would still be playing and reciting word for word with soul in my spirit. This song will never play out.
This song always hits differently than most songs because most black people who grew up in unfortunate circumstances including myself father was very much like the father in this song . This song is real life for many .
My husband was a studio musician/tech. He always said this song was the most technically structured to perfection song ever recorded...like savant perfection.

I just listened to Slash's cover of this song the instrumental part of the song is phenomenal and then he brings in Demi Lavato as the vocalist. I had to turn it off, it literally graded on my nerves. That's why I'm here listening just to soothe my soul back again 😂
A masterpiece that can never, ever be put aside especially in the year 2023? Come on guys, this group are GENIUS! Hear the way the intro of the sound burst out. It shows it is a SOUL music. I call this guys TALENTS 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I know that all the members are not with us but, I got to see the Temptations last week in Clearwater Fla. Only one living member is still singing and dancing with them at 80+! Still a GREAT show! Loved it and everyone was moving to EVERY song! :)
Wikipedia - written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong in 1971. Whitfield produced the original Undisputed Truth version, which was released as a single in May 1972. This version of the song peaked at number 63 on the Pop Charts and number 24 on the R&B Charts. The song was included on the Undisputed Truth's album Law of the Land (1973). Later in 1972, Whitfield cut a different version of the song, turning it into a 12-minute track for the Temptations. This version was included on their 1972 album All Directions. The edited 7-inch single release of this Temptations track was issued in September 1972, and this version was a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards in 1973. While the original Undisputed Truth version of the song has been largely forgotten, the Temptations' version of the song has been regarded as an enduring and influential soul classic. The full-length album version was ranked number 169 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, one of the group's three songs on the list. In retrospect, the Temptations' Otis Williams considers the song to be the last real classic the group recorded (it would be the Temptations' last number one hit and would win them their second and final Grammy Award in a competitive category).
