MSG has their 2 teams in playoffs and we have to watch it on ESPN, seriously? which has proven over and over how horrible they are on hockey coverage! Camera angles, announcing is a hot boring mess, cutting to another game, posting the wrong team winning at the wrong time! WHERE IS SAM ROSEN! The voice of the NYR!!!
The lady that interviewed Trocheck after the game was DULL!

To Evans comment regarding the commentators for ESPN. Evan is completely wrong. We don't hate them because they are not Sam Rosen. We hate them cause they're bad. I never had one complaint about Doc doing the playoffs for a decade on NBC. He made it exciting regardless of what team you routed for. Sean McDonough, or whatever his name is, sounds like he's half asleep when he makes these calls.

Yeah McDonough sucks. I do like the #2 guy on ESPN though (Bob Wischusen). Obviously he doesn't even compare to Rosen or Doc though.

ESPN sucks! The play by play commentator is horrible. We don’t need to know every players mothers name. Too much off beat stats.
The best thing the Rangers did in the offseason was firing Gallant and hiring Laviolette. They have the right head coach. I knew it when they signed him.
I agree. Gallant wanted his team to take it easy and skate through the last month of the season last year because they already locked up a playoff spot. They got embarrassed by the Devils. This year, they played hard all the way into the playoffs, and it's shown.
The "intent" rule in the NHL is when the hit results in injury, the NHL will look to see if there was intent to injure.
Trouba did not try to hit Necas. He was avoiding getting his legs taken out from under him and almost injured himself. Get it right!
They pulled a Heidi and I lost my mind, but beyond that the overall coverage by ESPN has been horrendous, their stupid ice level camera where you can't see either the ice or the puck, useless, when play is taking place they're showing closeups of guys sitting on the bench. Somebody needs to be fired and a producer/director who UNDERSTANDS THE GAME OF HOCKEY be installed, it's really pathetic...

ESPN are terrible. They never show proper replays. And when they do it’s not the replay we want to see. And if it is, they are so zoomed in, you can’t get the full picture of what actually happened
The national coverage is atrocious and this mishap just adds to it. Let people have their local broadcast for god sake! Especially if they’re not prepared to cover all the games on they’re schedule which they obviously weren’t.
After ESPN cut off the Rangers and Hurricanes I'm convinced that the MSG Network should show every playoff and possibly finals of the Stanley Cup should the Rangers make it, they did it in 94.

Trouba doesnt launch himself and the elbow doesnt come up if Neces doesnt hit the deck like that. If Necas is upright, its a hard hit to letters. Necas bails out and Trouba has to obviously go over him instead of skating right into him and brace from the wall impact. I do agree that it looks worse and hilarious when he's whiffing on air though.
If he connects, he's getting suspended no question. Consider himself lucky

Back in the Eighties, ESPN was the champion of the NHL. The network televised games all over the league and covered them as passionately as the LW politics it covers today. It's a shame what it has become.

Gary Thorn and Bill Clement were awesome!! They could have been doing play by play for the Quebec Nordiques and the Hartford Whalers and it would have been a great game to watch. Today, ESPN is just terrible.
ESPN owns 30% of TSN (The Sports Network in Canada). The fact that ESPN can't cover hockey right when they are partial owners of a company that covers it exceptionally is ridiculous.

You're wrong about 'Intent to Injure'. If a Trouba makes contact on that hit and the officials determine the hit was dangerous then a major penalty (5 min + Game Misconduct) will be called on the ice. If the officials determine that there was a deliberate attempt to injure on the play then the major becomes a Match penalty (5 min + Game Misconduct + Supplemental Discipline after review by Player Safety.) He missed the hit entirely. Nothing to discuss.
Teach me about the new versions of intent to injure and crosschecking. Things have really changed over the years...
I'm 64 and watched "the Heidi bowl." Nothing in the world was automatic back then. Somebody pressed the button when the clock hit the hour.

Can we just stop acting like special teams aren't a viable way to score goals and win games? They still score 5-on-5. You can't just say "If you remove their power play goals, they lose." That's some next level bullshit, and to be honest, one of the dumbest things someone can say. Then again, they only say that about the Rangers. It's fine for the Oilers to do it.

Truba's hit on Crosby was clean. Nothing dirty about it. No penalty, no suspension. Also wrong again about Truba being dirty last night. He got undercut when he tried to deliver a check . Would have been a shoulder to the chest textbook hit otherwise. Obviously not a dirty hit but also no intent neither. Evan is a complete troll when it comes to the Rangers. What's worse is his hockey ignorance shines through with every comment he makes.

I feel like ESPN was given the rights to this pretty much just because it's there, which conveniently makes it much harder for the same to be done with the WNBA. They already had the NBA playoffs; I can't imagine what else they could have really wanted. It seems it was ultimately more convenient for NBC to bear this load, and it feels like they never would have done this to us.

Trouba wasn’t going for anyone’s head. And it wasn’t a “spearing” motion. You can clearly see from the height he hit the boards that his check was aimed at the chest and the only reason he turned into a human missile is because the Carolina player ducked at the last second instead of taking the hit. Of course he’s going to jump over him instead of cutting him up with his skates.
Their hockey director, Jeff Holmes, sucks. he is constantly punching the switcher for a close up of a random players face when there is game action happening or will cut away when the is a net mouth scrum happening. Stay with the flow of the game on a wide shot and cut to the important pieces as they happen. I worked in TV for 30 years including for SNY when I lived in NY and have never seen such a bad directing job.
espn is a joke, i counted at least twice where they focused the camera on guy on the bench while the play was going on 😂
