gahhh i have so many feelings about that opening scene. it says so much about every character. as jake is about to be slashed in the neck by a random guy with crazed, bulging eyes, the squad reacts as follows: charles is extremely alarmed but slow in pulling out his gun. just a helpless bubble butt at the thought of losing his best friend. rosa running from behind her desk shouting like the serious badass she is. and also, because she has her friend's back. and then terry, looking intense with his muscles popping and gun at the ready, but saying, "don't be a dum-dum". he's a huge softie. of course the captain, who instead of telling adrian to put the blade down, proceeds with introductions because it's the proper thing to do.
and my favourite-jake just being completely awestruck. he's such a fanboy.

We just need a series called like "The past of the 99" and just make each season a different character's backstory
My headcanon is that he was a lot like Jake: outgoing, goofy, but a talented detective with nerves of steel. Which is why he got sent undercover the work for The Butcher, and lost his mind. Jake might've turned out like Pimento had he stayed with the Mob too long.

I miss Pimento, I thought he was one of the best "extra" characters. I think they made his and Rosa's break-up way too fast. With hardly any warning he was gone. It ended way too quickly! Though his final scene was sort of epic! I love him!

It’s the same thing they do when they’re busting perps or whatever, but I’m just weirdly obsessive of the way they film these shots. It’s for a few seconds but it just adds more detail. Is it just me?
