Billy Strings performs the Osborne Brothers' "Ruby (Are You Mad At Your Man)" on 3/15/22 at the grand opening of Roadrunner in Boston, MA. Audio by Casey C.
Love Billy’s showmanship and entertaining in the spirit of Roy Clark, the intimate contact with his audience while killing his instrument and just having fun while he displays the artistry and skills few ever put in the work to achieve. Well done to Billy and the band, they follow his lead well. So good! 🔥🙌🏼🤗🎯👏🏼
How great to have a debate about who did a better version of this song. Until Billy Strings came along, Ruby and the Osborne Brothers were loved by a small bunch of old-timers like me. Welcome home to great old music, kids! Follow Billy the Apostle!
I saw the Osborne brothers in 1967 near my hometown of Norman Oklahoma at the first bluegrass festival in 1967 when I was eight years old. They did Rocky Top!
It's summertime when I'm hearing this and these boys are surely cutting the grass excellent excellent excellent !!! Keep on cutting from Farmersville Ohio
They are totally awesome, seen them three magical times, Billy has revived my faith in music. But the Dead have like 50 original classic songs that everyone wants to cover 50 years later. That's what makes you truly timeless. And Billy has taken already established ways of playing guitar to the next level, but Jerry invented a way that no one ever envisioned. There is a difference between absurdly talented and genius, but there's still time.
Dude I gotta see Billy live. He really seems to be having so much fun which translates to a great show. I mean the kid became super successful in the 2000’s playing bluegrass. He should thank his lucky stars.
Awesome talent young man, refreshing; pickers of classics... and your stage presence has me going from Doc to George Thorogood and beyond...... Thank You for restoring our faith in young talent to be treasured.
Well I been watching you Billy and I damn sure like your music I know sonny and Bobby would be very proud of your rendition .Keep up the good work I know you don't consider yourself traditional but you have done great things for bluegrass music and the fans just keep loving it you play your heart out and it shows
Love it last time I heard this was when Yonder Mountain string band covered it and Billy just killed it even better than Jefff singing it which I never thought was possible. Keep on going ya'll.
Omg this one hits home!that's my Moms name and God help us all until he it makes right again! Oh no no Ruby ain't the One ✋💅and the 🦜 keeping it clean. Love it thanks
One of the VERY best in the business of makin' songs with strings!! And he would be even MORE appreciated if he could make it look as difficult as it is, rather than so damn easy!!!!!
I wouldn’t want to debate who has the “best” version of this great song; I’ll just say that if you like this, you should also find a live version from Yonder Mountain String Band (original lineup). You’ll probably dig that, too.
Indeed. Cynthia Mae Carver played professionally as Cousin Emmy. In 1935 she WON the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Championship. She was the first woman to WIN the event. In 1946 performing as Cousin Emmy and Her Kinfolk, she wrote and recorded Ruby(Are You Mad at Your Man). The Osborne Brothers released Ruby as a single in 1956, and popularized it, I suppose.
I’m sure Bobby Osborne was smiling 😊 when he heard this cover of Ruby. Billy gives much love and respect to the legends . Very cool!!!!!❤
Billy is keeping the old songs, the true country& bluegrass alive. God bless this young fella!
I was there. This concert changed my life.
Where did he play? I’m from Brookline but haven’t been home for years
@@sabrinaevans8746 He opened up a brand new venue called roadrunner. It's gnarly
I've been watching Billy on yt since he arrived. It's unbelievable to watch him develop on CZcams. Go get it Billy strings. I love ruby.
Now imagine how good sounds... not on youtube. Go see him on tour!
Some of the finest mandolin work you'll ever see
rest in peace bobby and sonny. the music is in good hands.

Roy Clark was a killer Showman and Musician!!!!
Roy Clark is a good comparison
lol Roy Clark is a horrible comparison! Clark was awful and impossible to watch and even worse when it come to singing.
Roy Clark is one of the best musicians who ever lived so good comparison
@@jeremyblack3394 I think you're just uncomfortable with comedians
This band has real charisma and a virtuoso guitarist at the helm they could really be something special for years
Top line musicians , all.
I was singing this song at the age of 3, my Dad can vouch for that one. Billy is just a beast, period!
Jerrod, woah.
Dude put all his stats points in dexterity*
Feel like I got hit by a train
He's incredible

Music is not dead! And so badly needed in these weird times.

The best on earth right now. Folks will look back at this band the same way we look back at the dead

Watching this young man mature has been a thing of beauty.
Billy Strings is amazing as he has been for years, and the band are, too. Great harmonies, especially at the end!
Was at this show and I have listened to this over and over since!!!
What a talent and all the BOYZ are too! ❤❤❤ billy strings
Saw them in Charlottesville last month and he played this. And damn they absolutely shred this song. Definitely gets my blood pumpin!
Just plain ole AWESOME!
Old sounds, but Billy putting a new twist to blue grass, keeping the old alive, but he killed this one, hat’s off to you Billy.
So much great music everywhere these days. We are so lucky !
Thank you. It extends well beyond Billy and before he came onto the scene. How lucky are we to be able to see them all when we can.
fantastic i bought your cd first one ever im a 70s 80s rocker & 68 years old great band
Watching a Boy become a Man, becoming a Legend in our lifetime.
That's so damn fast. Amazing playing and singing as always
Excellent song. Excellent cover!

The live shows are mind blowing, ya gotta get to one or however many they play in a weekend
This is beautiful to me.
Fuck I remembering watching back in the '60s. My mom and dad there introduced me to Bill Monroe literally to bluegrass music on. You guys are amazing
ya killed it, man. Congratulations Guys!!!
I’m an old man. Never seen something like this.
Awesome talent young man, refreshing; pickers of classics... and your stage presence has me going from Doc to George Thorogood and beyond...... Thank You for restoring our faith in young talent to be treasured.
Hes becoming a legend
I'm seeing them next month in Florida can't wait!

Fantastic!!!!!!
Absolutely fantastic and fun. Well done lads.
The band is great but there is something about those high notes in the singing from the Osborn Brothers that that makes there version truly great
Exactly!
None of them can touch Bobby's vocals in his prime. Not even the girls
He blows my mind how phenomenal he is!
I am so Wow'd hearing hin give so much mad respect to Ruby, Osborne Bros and all who covered it like Roy Clark! Daymmmmmmnnnnn
I can't wait to see him June!!!😍
Beautiful
Love this!!!❤❤❤❤
Holy shit... Killed it..
Billy is one of a kind generational thanks Billy pretty goddamn good
Thank You!!
Loving it Billy!
Atta boy!
Wow absolutely awesome
I'd say they all crushed it. What a band man.🤘
When a song is better than the original artist you know that you have a group of super stars 💖
better than the original? really?
Woahhh now. Fine job, but nowhere near Osborne Broths
How does that apply here though?
I don't think so. Billy's a tenor trapped in the body of a baritone. Bobby's on another level vocally, a real country strained old timey countertenor
Well, Cousin Emmy might disagree. I prefer the Rhiannon Giddens.
Just wow !!!! Awesome!!!
Just Perfection!!!
Fabulous!!
Absolutely 👀💚🎵🪕🎶🎸🪕🎶💚
wow,,,,,a future icon and his band at the top of their game,,,,awesome,,
Wonderful Entertainers !
Absolutely badass
Thanks!
Thanks so much Catherine!

I wanna hear him sing a child again by the osborne brothers I think he would crush it
Ridiculous. These guys are insane!
Shhhheeeewwwww…. Took us all to his shanty.
Like the Osborne Brothers version much more!
get it boy!
Good fucking god dude. This is sooooo dope
The stevie ray vaughn of blue grass!!!
I think Billy's gettin' the hang of this guitar thing...
Wow
This was crushed by each and every band member!
You lack a meaningful vocabulary.😂
@@alan4sure Thanks for taking care of my light work here Alan. That's why I don't par on the Friends of BS Facebook page.
Osborn Brothers Ruby
Waaaaaaa. Hooooooo!
When you play so fine that guitar duffers like me hang it on the wall, you are at the top of the mountain. Live long and prosper Billy Strings
This is NUTS!!!

Check out the Carolina Chocolate Drops' live version at Bonnaroo too - with Rhiannon Giddens singing lead.
Billy has the musicianship but Rhiannon shines.

Sweet take on this classic.

Very good and I really like his music but no one can sing Ruby like Bobby
I notice an Axl Rose influence among others..so fun
You're better than Garth Brooks you know how to play believe me I love it the way you play awesome you're better than any country singer I know
Son!!!!!
Jesus…..
daggone right!

Is it really the Osbourne Brothers? I used to love the song because it had Little Ricky Skaggs singing....I like the ob too though.
Who'd win a wresting match, Billy Strings or God? Trick question. Billy Strings is God. Lol, best sticker ever made.
