A physician can check the working of a pacemaker by taking a 12 lead ECG. In a patient with pacemaker, the ECG will show spikes preceding the QRS or preceding the P wave. This is the simplest form of test to check the pacemaker. The physician can also check the battery life of the pacemaker by placing a magnet on the top of the device. She will also explain about the magnet rate and how to check using it.
