Hey Jake. Corporal Kelly just gave me a push in your direction. Love the channel
Jake, good review, like you prefer on the ground sleeping, however your setup is good for you, but I am also a big guy I just need more room, what works for me is an all mesh tent, and if I need a tarp due to weather I have oneâŠ.
Nice bivy, I use the woodland MSS bivy for all my ground camping, if a net is in order it is the old version of the Atwater bug net which sets up in side of the bivy, a
Snugpak Jungle bag, air mattress, and Pathfinder survival blanket for a ground sheet. If cold, I will add my wool blanket. If rain is an issue, it is a poncho for cover. Simple, but not ultra lite. Great video, thanks for sharing.
The Snugpak Ionosphere and Outdoor Research Helium Bivy are just as good and the price is better considering your getting something brand new vs used
One Tigris makes a bug net tent that will hang from a ridge line. Throw a tarp over that. Footprint is large enough for you and gear. More ventilation, much cheaper, more coverage, albeit more weight. Great for Louisiana summer camping where we really have high temps and true 100 percent humidity, with bugs thatâll suck you dry. (Of course here in the swamp, a simple hammock/tarp rules)
My guess for the other port is just for ventilation so you can get a crosswind or still have it open even in the rain since the door would let in the weather.
I've never seen this tent in woodland camouflage. I bought this tent back in the early 1980's with a green top. Still have it. It's a great little tent, but thr Snugpak Ionosphere is bigger and better.
Jake, I think that hole was for those âdonât ask donât tellâ soldiers. Think glory hole but in a tent.đ€Łđđ€·đŒââïž
I found one of those tent at GoodWill for less than $5.00.I have a another one person tent worth $129 and i bought it for $6 at Good Will store.
Nice sleep system Trent. How lucky are u to get one. Persistent does pay off!!đâïžđ
Wiggyâs still makes that item. They call it the Freedom Shelter. Available in 3 different weights
Very nice! Thanks for sharing my friend đ€
Similar to the Snugpak Ionosphere. Thanks for sharing.
Swagman, basic and snug pack jungle blanket is what I use in the spring and summer and it works great
i got two on that same style year's ago from sportsman's guide & it's still going, been patched & seam sealed many times..
BUT the fiberglass poles splintered in the Florida heat, so i replaced em with aluminum ones.
Thats a great little bivvy.
I was thinking that for cooling you could take some 6 feet of plastic pipe ducting, you know the stuff that is a concertina folding thing that a bathroom fan vents the moisture out?. Well tape on end to your 'gun port' and bury 4 or 5 feet of the pipe in the ground and have the fan blow at the other end into the pipe.
the coolness of the ground the pipe is buried in will cool the air, and the noise of the fan will be less because its further away
talk about overkill, especially for stealth camping lol
That....port(!?) for a scope of long lens camera perhaps? đ¶
Great sleep system!đ
It's an air vent to prevent moisture condensation inside while letting in air and keep rain out.
Great video brother. Thanks for sharing đ
Awesome video my friend
Good vid as usual.
Check out the aqua quest bivy, itâs big and has a zip down top to ventilate in summer
The stupid bivy bags used to be cheap and then gortex got super exclusive and now they cost a ton
sweet set up we might have to but a few very stealthy mate
Hole in the side is an air vent but you could use it as a shooting port if you had to. People who have never lived in Ohio have no idea how hot and humid it can get. Even here in N.E. OH where I'm at the humidity gets like a tropical rain forest a lot. U.S. Cavalry store in Kentuck use to sell those bivies in their catalog before internet stores were around.
These are facts. I like when people say, âcome down south and youâll experience real heatâ. Like bro, we hav it here toođ
Looks ultralight đđœ
Gunnys right its an air hole if its pouring and you can't vent the head its there ..I no kidding just gave mine away to a Buddy of mine .ya Mitch and the boys at brigaid made some good stuff
LOL ....Be warned there are sellers on Ebay trying to sell the MMSS bivy as a Brigade Quartermaster's Bivy. Definitely and obviously not the same thing. Thanks for the video Jake.
Fyi a company called fellfab makes a very similar military spec bivy called the Observer Shelter for 686 canadian ($500 US)
Im using Nordisk Lofoten when going solo camping..it packs small and just weight 500g..
Look for Wiggys Freedom Shelter as an evolution on the Ecotat. Prices are much better.
You did Dave dirty. Thankless
I left on good terms with the school and Dave. Itâs time for me to move on to other things.
@@buckeyebushcrafthe needs you the pathfinder school needs you. Please go back đą
Great channel what's the name of the tent ?
Soon as you said you cant find em, not made anymore, folks sellin em for $600âŠ
I lost ALL interest.
Fyi, if your making videos to be watched (as most youtube personalities are)
Either that bunk for the end if you conscious requires full disclosure, or just cut that part out completely as the audience will figure it out.
which fan you use?
Ready for the cooler nightsâŠ
'Hotter than crap' and you're wearing a black cap and black shirt. As well as absorbing the heat they attract mosquitoes. Ask me how I know.... in 1998 I wore a black t-shirt in Far North Queensland once in 100F heat, 90% humidity and suffered 103 mozzie bites and nearly dropped from heat exhaustion. Never wore black again.
Does matter what color I wear plus Iâm in the shade. If I was wearing bright orange or white it would still be hot as hell. Blue seems to attract mosquitoes the most in the area Iâm in.
ââââ@@buckeyebushcraftblack attracts/absorbs sunlight, white reflects it. Wearing a hat traps your body heat from escaping. The fact you didn't know these is astonishing and he's 100% correct. And you're teaching classes???đ€Š
Love the packed size of the bivy. Weight is a big consideration for me. I have been trialling different bivvies and it seems that the more spacious the more condensation. I'm not using just a tyvex bag. Can't use it where there mosquito's thou đą. I might have to sus this one out.
This is what I'm sleeping in at the moment:
czcams.com/video/G4MrxekY0Cc/video.html
I havenât had a problem with the condensation, being that this bivy is made from goretex material it breaths.
@@buckeyebushcraft I think my problem is that I use cheap bivys. Need to get a good one but working out what design works well for me. Will look for a goretex one I think. Cheers
Don't need no stinkn fan
i just make my girlfriend stand outside & fan me.
đ€Łâșđ
Iâll give you $400 for it.
Itâs so ya f donât have to get up to pee
