In this episode we install an under car light kit on our Toyota 4Runner TRD Offroad overland rig.
Better known as rock lights in the offroad world, this diy kit is incredibly easy to install.
Jump over to the HID Kit Pros website to check out what we consider to be the best under car lights available. The kit we install is an RGB with strobe and dimming function, as well as a music sync mode.
All controlled by a bluetooth app; BLEDIM

The brackets are a great idea!
Thanks!
Finally, a rock light video that is to the point and very informative. If I saw another blog style video on these things I was going to lose my mind. Great job
Thank you!!!!!!
Perfect install. Thanks for the mounting ideas. Always wondered why would you want to light the top of tire. Maybe for mallcrawlers that's acceptable...but useless on a trail. Glad I found your channel.
Love the install! If you ever make more brackets, I would love to buy some from y'all!
Your bus bar, wiring, and install are all so clean! Thanks for another great video
Thanks Phil!
Great video very humble couple to which is awesome. It's different for every vehicle all depends on how you want the light to look. Also I've never done this before but i plan on running everything before bolting down anything. Sort of like a dummy test to see if I know what I'm doing.
Well said!
Question do they make this kit that works with your remote. Wife needs a saftey light when she walks out to her 4 runner to make sure nobody is underneath it. Puddle lighting on the mirrors cause a black void underneath the the auto.
Hey guys. I’m wondering how the lights hold up after 3 years?
They still work!
Hi guys I’ve been watching your channel from the beginning and they really enjoy it. I just wanted to let you know I have an FJ Cruiser that I use for my bmx bike shop business and your video about the rock lights was awesome I’m actually going to use them for a little bit of offloading but also for my business. The fj Already draws a lot of attention but I believe with the lights it’ll be just that little touch that puts it over the top. The kids will love it and thank you so much I really enjoyed the videos
Thank for being with us from the start! Stay tuned, there's a lot more to come. :)
What kind of relay fuse box is that?
Here's a video we made on it: czcams.com/video/Ya9hQDI_epE/video.html
think I found my rock lights!! love the vids guys,
I want some lights pretty bad!!
Well made video. Good job 👍🏽
Thank you!
very nice project!
I wish I saw this before installing mine and taking 3882 Advil’s. 🙂
Cool, looking forward to do mine
If i wanted to turn on the rock lights without my phone, what materials/switch button/wiring harness/brackets would I need to make this happen. This will be my first time installing any lights to my car and would be helpful if you can provide me links on all the materials that is needed. Thanks in advance!
I also only want to control by a switch
Love it what locations next illinois and michigan😃
Utah & Colorado
Do you have the dimensions on the stainless mounting brackets that you have created? Love the clean look of mounting points
We don't have specific dimensions. We simply cut them roughly the same shape as the lights.
Ok I’m definitely doing this mod, thanks for the great video. Do y’all have video installing a winch? I’m about to install a C4 Fabrication lo pro bumper, which looks like your the bumper. I think I can do the bumper but my winch looks like a real head scratcher.
We touch a little on installing a winch in this video; czcams.com/video/aZMNp-lGyaM/video.html
drop the link for the angle brackets?
Maybe. Not too expensive
Any chance y’all sell those brackets?
How far apart should you mount your rock lights if you have a 9 foot in length area and how many lights should you use?
How did you run the wires across to the control unit? I had to temporarily mount my unit right in the dead center close to the transfer case with zip ties because the passenger front of tire pod wire won’t make it across to the driver side frame like how you mounted them. Thanks
We ran it across the front right at the bottom of the radiator, then followed the frame rearward to the controller.
After you set the brightness, strobe, color, etc. on the app, will it automatically turn back on to these settings next time you turn it on with the toggle switch? Or do you have to open the app every time you turn them on?
Yup, the lights come on according to the last setting you used.
Just wondering, how are theses lights holding up? Thinking about buying it!
Hi what if there to short like where could I install them or what should I connect with what
I would imagine the manufacturer would offer some sort of extension cord. Otherwise you can splice in your own.
Where did you purchase the aluminum mounting brackets?
We made them ourselves. I believe Rago Fabrications makes them too.
Once you find a setting you like, does it save? So all you have to do is flip on the switch on your panel, or do you have to open the app every time?
Yes, you can save any setting or group of settings by using the DIY button. We installed the dash switch just for a safety cut-off, eliminating any chance they'll come on when not needed. We haven't had time to look into it further but we're hoping to get the lights to come on in a chosen "default" mode without running it through the app. We'll work on that tomorrow. It is very simple to open the app though.
Love your attention to detail, you didn't get lazy and did a practical install. Very clean work under the hood as well!
how did you hook these up to the switch inside?
We put a switch on the power wire going to the controller.
I am thinking about getting a set of these and was wondering how well they have held up and if you like them or not?
They've been holding up great! We especially like them in camp for subtle lighting.
Awesome thanks for the reply! I’m really looking forward to getting a set of these for my truck
just when i had lost faith in the internet
I checked the product website, it doesnt say these are waterproof. Are these waterproof?
Absolutely!
Have you or anybody here had trouble with the bluetooth controller? I cannot get it to connect to my phone
At first we did. A little playing around and I believe we uninstalled-installed it too. Now we don't have any issues.
where the heck are we? well this can't be right! lmao
The lights you installed are awesome. I remember some of you other video and you installed a 3 inch lift. Did you have to use wheel spacers, and what size tires do you have on your right now?
Thanks for watching Chuck! We didn't use spacers on our 4R and are running 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
Did you have to do the fender liner mod or BMC after putting on 285's? Rock lights look amazing btw!
No body mount chop but we did have to push the fender liners forward.
Wanderlost Overland awesome! Thank you for the quick response!!
Your dog clearly think you guys are nuts!
LOL, Absolutely!
And notice that is Max our male cairn terrier. He never misses a chance for a photo op. He loves being in photos and videos. 🐕
