  • "It" is a 1927 silent romantic comedy film which tells the story of a shop girl who sets her sights on the handsome and wealthy boss of the department store where she works. Because of this film, actress Clara Bow became a major star of the highest magnitude, and as result, became known as the "It girl".

Wow, I can see why Clara Bow became such a hit. Her acting is more lively and natural than a lot of more famous people decades after her, and all this without even saying a word (that the audience hears)!
it's also really cool to see the real people of the 1920s actually in motion. Yeah I know this is a movie, not quite reality. But most of them look so much more like average people than the Hollywood actors of today.

After her death they found scaring on her heart from a previous heart attack, that no one knew about. And was suffering from a mental illness. Just like Monroe years later the camera loved Clara. She was still pert and trim in 1927 and in her element here - silent films. She considered microphones distracting and limiting - and certainly her talkies lacked the vitality of this piece. Towards the end of her life she was diagnosed - rather loosely - with schizophrenia although her condition sounds today more like depression and agoraphobia. She was a real cutie exuding humour and warmth in a natural way that no other actress could or can equal.

ZOOMLENS - Wikipedia: An early use of the zoom lens in cinema can be seen in the opening shot of the movie "It" starring Clara Bow, from 1927.
    (the zoom-shot starts at 2:00)

Yes, but probably made in the optical printer and not by a zoom lens

What a terrific movie! Whenever I watch silent films, they are not very engaging. But with the right music, the emotion and ideas really do come through.

The musical score by Carl Davis is fabulous: A combination of themes from classical, jazz, and popular music, wonderful melodies to express emotions, and the music flowing naturally between scenes.

This is in my top ten films of all time. I’ll never tire of Clara in this sparkling romantic comedy. And this version is the best, the one with Carl Davis’s finest score, which sounds like it was composed for the film in 1927.

I'm a 65 year old movie buff who loves movies old and new but somehow, sometimes intentionally, avoided "IT". I've heard of it and was aware of it's legendary status but just wasn't interested and frankly thought the clothes and hairstyles of the biggest stars (lets not mention all the make-up) was just not very attractive and couldn't hold a candle to "modern" (Kim Novak on) actresses. Clara Bow in "IT" changed that opinion BIG TIME
All I can say is "WOW!!!!"
