  • Join us in this video for a visit to Chirk, near Wrexham in North Wales. We stayed in the campervan for two nights at the excellent Caravan & Motorhome Club site in Chirk. The village is an easy stroll away, and there are many walks direct from the site. We wandered round the deer park and up to the rather grand Chirk Castle, and also had an interesting walk along the Llangollen Canal through Chirk Tunnel and across the aqueduct and returning back via Chirk village.
    Many thanks for watching!

Always a great day to tour around a castle...such marvelous structures they are! If walls could talk! That is quite the amazing canal!! A great weekend indeed!

Hi Bruce & Otis! It was a rather splendid castle, and we had a great weekend. I think Milly's guest appearance stole the show though! 👍😁

Never heard of Chirk. Loved the walk around. The spooky old tree, the tunnel and the amazing castle. So much history. It got really dark in there.

Hi Bill & DeAnna. It was a fun weekend (apart from the rain!) So many interesting walks around the area. We'll definitely go back at some point.
All the best & see you soon👍☺

Looked a nice quiet site and in a great area and what a formidable castle that looked. Brilliant that you could get inside the castle too and good to see you getting your steps in. Chirk Tunnel looked a bit spooky mind but good place to get out of the rain, although the dragon in the church looked a lot warmer! Cheers Alan

Hi Alan. It was a beautiful castle. I think parts of it do have an entrance fee. So we were surprised how much we saw without digging deep! 😁
The tunnel was a bit spooky. I 100% convinced myself I was about to bump into a bloke coming the other way! I even apologised out loud, then he was gone 😂 Will remember the torch next time!
All the best & see you soon👍👍

    Nice one Des.
Bet you were popular in the tunnel! 😃
Cool that you used to have a narrowboat!
That’s looks a lovely site location. So much to see and do. Didn’t realise that the CAMC had a site there
Cant go wrong with the CAMC but they’re so expensive!
Looked like a great weekend - Castle and Canal a real draw.
We’re off to get some suspension enhancements this weekend so hoping that goes ok 👍👍

I knew we were going over the aqueduct, but didn't realise we had to go through the tunnel. So the lack of torches was an oops moment! 😂 They all got their phones out, I had to press on in the dark holding the Gopro!
The CMC sites are nice, but a bit expensive as you say. Mind you, it's whatever you can find that stays open over winter! Chirk well worth a visit, as there's plenty to do.
Hope the suspension work goes well. What are you having done?

Bore da Maria, Prynhawn da Des and Noswaith dda from us at the monent. 😃 Croeso ! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 This was great and it looked like a really nice site with lovely woodland that you're staying on.
We do love Chirk castle, its got interesting history and is lovely inside and out with beautiful views. Milly was enjoying it !
Didn't know that you used to have a narrowboat Des, did you live on it ? Such a great life :)
Loved the footage of Chirk aqueduct and the river, its a beautiful area. Monks Bridge is also known as Chirk Bank Bridge if I remember 😃
St Marys church is so beautiful. Seems like you had a lovely few days there with Marias sister and husband. Ardderchog 👍~ Anna

Noswaith dda, Anna! I wasn't expecting Maria to start off in Welsh (she's actually learning Spanish). We've been watching a Welsh drama on S4C, so she must be picking some of it up! 😁
Our narrowboat was only small. So was just for weekends and holidays.
We had a great weekend. Lots to see and do, and I think Milly enjoyed all the walks.
Many thanks for watching & see you soon👍☺

Hi David. Yes, I think the Pontcysyllte one is made of iron, and even more impressive. We went over that one on our boat a couple of times too. It's a fantastic area to visir.
All the best & catch you soon👍

  • @ChrisJB
    @ChrisJB Před 5 měsíci +1

That area looks splendid Des. I've always wanted to walk that viaduct and having recently joined the National Trust we could visit Chirk Castle too. ATB, Chris

    • @DesGreene
      @DesGreene  Před 5 měsíci +1

Hi Chris. It's probably a little less spectacular than the Pontcysyllte one, but very impressive, and some lovely walks around the area. I think certain parts of the castle (gardens, museum? ) you did have to pay or be an NT member. But we saw quite a lot without paying.
Great weekend all round! Catch you soon👍☺

Hi Simon. We had a cracking weekend all round!
The new van is probably better equiped for longer journey's than the old one, but no plans for this year.
All the best to you & yours too👍☺
