Fun fact; Danny Carey laid down the whole drum track in his first and only take. He wanted to do this to challenge himself but the band was trying to distract him through the studio window. You can subtlety hear Danny at the end "Aw, you fuckin' bastard!" to his mates. Dude is a legend!
yeah, its a fun story, but this is another online myth that was started fairly recently.
I know that Danny back then really didn't record to a click-track (its very common drummers do)... think it may have got lost in translation along the way.
@@tidewell by fairly recently, you mean 2004? That’s when I heard about it.
@@forgetaboutit1069 well, I worked for the band from ‘95 through the Lateralus era, so can verify no song was ever done in one take only. Not sure when the rumor came about, but I’ve only heard about it online years later.
@@tidewell sounds like yours and mine are unfalsifiable statements. Guess we’ll just leave it to urban legend. Cheers 🍻
@@forgetaboutit1069 exactly, you forgot the detail that Danny was also riding a unicycle while juggling flaming drum sticks during that 1 and only take. Salud 🥂
The best part is Maynard freaking out in the background of the anti-radio interlude 😂😂😂
When Tool get heavy it‘s so satisfying.
This album is a freaking piece of art, a Masterpiece
Yes! Their best album by far. Followed by Aenima.
@@finkleandeinhorn8130 not by far, aenimas a close second 😉
inside and out. everyone needs to experience the cd booklet
Heard that MJK lost his voice after singing that. But we love Tool because they r so real and u can hear and feel the anger. They r true 2 their craft and don't worry about radio play. Heard Adam say on a podcast that radio only cuts up their songs anyway and he loves and appreciates the Tool fans for being so loyal to them.
In my other musical universe, I feel the same way about Prince. On radio, Meh. LP and Club versions? N A S T Y
This is a true story. 'Ticks & Leeches' was the last song he recorded vocals on the album and did blow his voice out for about a week or so afterwards.
I've heard this song 54759587 times and it still hits hard every time lol
One of the best reaction channels bar non when it comes to explaining and displaying what Tool does to those that open up and listen. Great job
I just finished listening to this song on my way home from work.
Quite underrated by most fans, but so so good
Yes!
one of my favorite tool songs
I miss those car videos. 😭 Tool never gets old! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to this album front to back..all their albums for that matter. They’re living, breathing art.
Listening in the car (with a good system) is great for feeling the music, but there is nothing quite like LISTENING with great headphones. You should redo all your car days if you haven't heard them a lot.
I apologise for falling out my chair!!!! Fucken gold
This is what I wanted. Lol😅
Well this is what you're getting.
🤣🤣🤣
LOVE!!! Car days fan here, love you and your passenger!!! And what can you say about TooL that hasn't already been said.......hey the record company wanted a certain piece of music.....and I hope this is what they had in mind......cause this was what they got!
This song is deadly. One of the best bands.
This is both what I wanted and needed...and I'm damn glad I got it!!! 🤘😆
Cuz this is what your gettin….
I have been sleeping on this track. Thanks guys, awesome reaction.
Can’t wait to see them again at Louder Than Life in September!
Hell yeah! I'll be at Aftershock 🤘
probably the greatest song ever written actually
I know its been more of an online urban legend that the song is directed at the music label.
The fact is, that Tool originally signed their record contract to a very small record label (Zoo/Volcano Ent) for the purpose of having 100% creative control over what they make. The "record label" at that time was made up of 2 guys (Cliff Bernstein & Peter Mensch) - and it was far from what you'd think some big corporate entity is.
From what I know, they hadn't even heard any music from Lateralus until the band was in the mixing process of recordings. Their rection was indifferent and perhaps was discussed that the album didn't have a clear "radio friendly" song - but that's as far as it went! The band already had 100% creative control, so its not like Cliff & Peter's opinion had much sway anyway.
This era was a tense moment in the band's history and they nearly broke up in the studio a few times. A lot of the lyrical content is more reflective of the band's inner atmosphere on the album - song to song., not just this one.
Love this. Totally makes sense. I’m sure there’s a LOT to unpack before, after, and during sessions, recordings, and meetings. But it almost sounds like the objectivity of time lets them share memories over drinks and laughs.
All that's left from this album is Schism.
Kind of cool as that’s the biggest known song from the album, good one to leave till last.
🌀🌀🌀✊✊✊ Tool all the way!
Love this song you can just feel all Maynard’s emotions when he sings and this is the perfect example
CAR DAYS THROWBACK!
❤ Tool ❤ Nothing more to add apart from - OUTSTANDING! ✌️
That entire album is amazing. One of their best and my personal favorite too. 🤘💪🔥
İ remember listening first time this song…man…i throw a full cup of coffee to the wall in the end:))
this is one of my favorite tool songs
Love you guys, living Vicariously through your reactions always makes my day. I remember your Tool days, you are alot more happy now, guess that has to do with the amazing woman sitting next to you. So happy you both found each other ❤❤❤❤
Just so epic and breath taking! So satisfying! So happy you shared this with your passenger! 😂 Just wizards showing off their sonics and lyrical sorcery!❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
the fact the drum intro is the song intro is funny
effing enjoyed this a ton. top notch musical content.
Great reaction to the greatest band of them all
TOOL is my soul music. I'm almost never closer to God than listening to TOOL
Tool es sinónimo de amor en mi vida ❤
Amazing song. Love your reviews
Seriously one of the best Tool songs…and there are many! The drums? Jesus fuck, come on.
If your hair doesn't stand up somewhere from listening to this song.. your not human
Genios!!
I freaking love that song. Is it weird that I’m out of breath after listening to it?
the middle section when it slows down is a little long but the buildup is done so good, i always just go for the ride. they are so good at building tension
I enjoy how u brought someone else aka ur wife to join in the car ride and expand her musical mind also fuck yea kill it yall
Maybe their best song. 🤩
Atta boy💪🏻🔨🔨🔨🔥🔥
🔥
The record company told them they needed a heavier song for this album, so this is what Tool gave em
My favorite Tool song after Third Eye
Try Isis - Hand of The Host. Man, that's even heavier ending.
This song was a FU to the label. The interlude was a FU within a FU. Absolutely fucking epic.
Maynard said he lost his voice for 2 weeks after recording this
👍👍👍👍
The mythology of this song is that the record label was pressuring them for a heavier song that could be marketed against Slipknot or System of a Down. So the purposefully wrote in that super chill break in the middle of the song as an F U knowing the rep would only listen the first minute or two and sign off on the song.
Im a slipknot fan. Slipknot is nothing compared to tool Being dsnt mean that ur good
Yeah, and the quiet midsection ruins the label's chance of making it a single, which is brilliant.
I feel like their last track in 2019, Mockingbeat is an extension of this motif, of the middle finger
Pure Tool in old, less poetic version 😅
Love me some angry Maynard
If your lady likes what you like ..kinda rare especially music so welcolme it 😎
I thought you've already heard this in your car years ago.
PLEASE BATUSHKA YEKTENIYA
It says a lot of this album that this is easily my least favourite track. I've heard it was aimed at the label that heard some of the stuff they had written for the album and asked for something that's heavier and to the point. "So this is what you wanted, then this is what youre getting". It's a cool track but doesn't quite fit in with the other songs.
Oh bro, I love you two, but I wish you would let her speak more, like, you are always interrupting her thoughts and exposing yours... Maybe I'm biased, but maybe I'm an honest fan of your work and would like to see it get better.. let her talk!
