Bodmin Gaol: We were shocked at the quality of this hotel! 😍👍

  • We visited Bodmin Gaol during the school half-term and stayed at the Hotel, which has been open since 2021. Our ten-year-old twin boys, Sam and Tom, were beside themselves with excitement, but not as much as Mum and Dad!
Bodmin Jail (alternatively Bodmin Gaol) is a historic former prison situated in Bodmin, on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. Built in 1779 and closed in 1927, many buildings fell into ruin, but parts have been turned into a tourist attraction, and more recently another large part was converted into a hotel. We arrived and drove up the drive where there was ample parking. Our visit reminded us of the classic British comedy "Porridge" starring Ronnie Barker as Norman Stanley Fletcher, and our name is also Fletcher.
We checked into a beautiful room after walking along prison landings. Each room is three former cells, now stylish bedrooms with original doors and bars on the windows. Effortlessly combining old and new, every room has a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, sumptuous bedding, and a luxurious bathroom with underfloor heating. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we had eaten on the long journey from Wales to Cornwall, but we did enjoy some "Nineteen Crimes" wine, which we thought was fitting.
There was a notice on the wall that said William Bartlett had spent his last night in our cell before being hanged for murdering a baby, which was both chilling and sad. We had something strange on our footage-a teapot seemed to move on its own. None of us had any recollection of touching it. We are not claiming it is paranormal and would never intentionally mislead anybody by staging something. Mum and Dad braved separate midnight walks around the jail. We didn't see anything but felt a distinct chill in the navel wing.
Breakfast was included in the £249 rate that we paid for the hotel and the standard was really first-class. They even had a toy that recreated a hanging! Our rate also included entrance into the Bodmin Jail tourist attraction. The £8.5 million immersive visitor attraction features the ‘Dark Walk’ experience, interwoven throughout these impressive buildings, included within standard jail entry tickets and heritage guided tours.
Built in 1779 for King George III, Bodmin Jail has played an important role in Cornwall’s history, and this bold redevelopment gives visitors the chance to delve into an intriguing hidden history. A massive investment in Cornwall’s tourism and visitor economy, this was the biggest attraction opening in 2020 with its state-of-the-art technology allowing for a more immersive experience.

What a "spooktacular" hotel, Mike, Elaine, Samuel and Thomas! It's funny, but just last night I finished a novel about an abandoned prison here in the southern US set in the bayou's. Not quite as nice, but plenty of 👻👻👻's! I would love to stay there. Thanks for bringing us along with you.

Hi Dave and Kathy. How lovely to hear from you and we are so glad that you liked the video and the jail. How strange that you were reading a book about abandoned prisons. It was one of the best hotels that we have been to and it's history made it all the more exciting, thank you so much for watching and commenting - it made our day! Great to have a comment from Wayside Wade too! Very best wishes Mike, Elaine, Samuel and Thomas 😎😍👬

Thank you so much for watching and commenting. That is amazing that you were in the same room. We actually watched the Walk with me Tim video when we were in the room and could not believe it was the same room. We loved it there. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did. Did you get the full mini bar too? Tim only seemed to have water and sachets of milk, thanks again Elaine, Mike, Samuel and Thomas 😍😎👬

@@2twinstersyeah we loved it !! We was actually in a different room on the ground floor in the Naval Wing first but we complained as the room stunk of damp !! Yeah we also had a full mini bar however they did put the prices up of the stay, pretty sure Tim’s stay was around £130 a night 2yrs ago

@@Coaster_Crazy glad they moved you. We didn't like the Naval Wing seemed to be a bit out of it. Maybe Tim got an off peak last minute deal - I bet the travel agents love him! 🤣🤣🤣

I'd love to stay here. Spotted ev chargers in the car park too 👍 it all looks so cool, really fascinating. Amazing that all of that in the fridge was complimentary! Really good price for everything that you got. So cool that you can go into some cells too. I'd be way too scared to walk around at midnight haha. The attraction looked cool too. Definitely somewhere I'd love to stay some time.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting. It was a brilliant place and we think you would love it. The mini bar was a big surprise as other you tube videos just had water and sachets of milk. We still have the beers but the G&T got drunk when we went to the campsite! If you do ever go there get a price from booking.com and ask them to match it. The hotel were quoting much more. Don't book through booking.Com though or you won't get the attraction tickets. The kids got a bit spooked in the attraction though as it was so well done. Thanks again and best wishes from Elaine, Mike, Samuel and Thomas 😍😎👬

Spooky teapot loved when one of the boys (sorry not sure which one they are identical) was stood like on the cross and dad says he got executed not crucified 😂 so funny! The attraction looks fun! Was that lens flare or an orb? Enjoyed this guys thanks for making us aware of this great place 👍❤️

Thank you so much both. We really appreciate you watching and commenting. We have no idea what happened with the teapot and would never stage anything, however one of the boys may have knocked it. We are never sure about orbs but they are quite fun. We really enjoyed the stay and can recommend it. Thanks again for watching. Best wishes Elaine, Mike, Samuel and Thomas 😍😎👬

Hi Ms Kayak. Great to hear from you again and thank you for watching and commenting.
This was a very exciting visit indeed and the boys loved it but don't think that they enjoyed the attraction as they were clinging into us.
All of the walls are original but the prison was derelict so they spent about $50 million renovating it, that's why it is expensive. The midnight walks were a little spooky! 👻👻
We will certainly watch the caves in Florida and leave a comment so it would be good if you could leave the link👍
Thanks again and best wishes Elaine, Mike Samuel and Thomas 😍😎👬
