    Is it true you can't use cydectin on lactating goats? Thanks

  • @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646

    I will usually guess the weight of the goat by its size and dose the animal with the appropriate amount of wormer specified on the container of wormer for the weight of the animal you’re going to worm. I like cydectin oral drench for sheep because the manufacturer states that it’s been given at 5 times the normal dose without hurting the animal so it’s a good safe wormer that I have really come to like. Prohibit wormer is good to but It requires weighing out the amount of powder you need for the weight of the animal and mixing with water to dose your goats and I would try to be as accurate as possible because it’s a strong wormer but it’s a little cheaper so that’s nice but if you want something that works good and is easy and safe for guessing the weight and proper dose for your animal go with cydectin oral drench for sheep. And give your goats the same dose per pound as stated on the container. And I hope that helped and happy farming!

    No mention if any of these can be given to lactating does or when the meat would be fit for harvest. 2 extremely important issues in using wormers.

    So, if my goats have both barberpole and tape, I should deworm with both Cydectin and Valbazen? so like use one product one week and the other product the next week?

    • @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646
      @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, this is the way. Give your goats time to recover from the Cydectin before giving the Valbazen. If goats get scours from the Cydectin give probiotics, Red cell, and some electrolyte like formula 911 or arrest. The Red Cell is good to give a few days in a row after deworming for the barber pole worms, this helps builds the blood back. Best of luck with your Goats.

    Do you double the doses of Cydectin for goats?

    • @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646
      @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646  Před 3 lety +2

      No, I give it pretty close to the instructions on the container of Cydectin. I go a little stronger with the doses of Cydectin sometimes, but not double dose cause it’s a strong dewormer. Safeguard double dose I have done, but it is a weak dewormer. Sometimes I give s regular dose of Cydectin followed in a few days by a dose of Safeguard. To much dewormer is hard on the goats stomach and if they are in bad shape already, the scours could be hard for them to overcome. I have had some goats that iron stomachs though so the key is learning your goats. Redcell helps as well to build the blood back after deworming, and if they do get the scours then give probiotics. Good luck with your goats!

    Where do you get your valbazen in the smaller container and do you ever use ivomec thanks

    • @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646
      @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Jim, I get the Valbazen at Atwood’s, and I have used the Ivomec when the worm load isn’t to bad in my goats. If your goats flesh on the in side of the eyelids is light pink when you pull down the eyelid use some Ivomec, but if they are white or almost white use the stronger dewormers prohibit or cydectin. Best of luck Matt Ford.

      @@mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646 Thanks. Do you ever use a combination of wormers from two classes given from two syringes?

    • @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646
      @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646  Před 3 lety +2

      I have given two different dewormers in a single worming. A half dose of one dewormer and a half dose of another dewormer. If your goats have a very bad worm load you can give a strong dewormer like prohibit or cydectin and follow the wormer every day with a little probiotic powder and redcell. Then after three days you can worm again with safeguard dewormer and continue the redcell till the reddish pink color comes back into the flesh of their eyelid. When you pull their eyelids down and look at them it should show improvement in color in close to a week. The safeguard is the safest dewormer for goats on the market and have used it like this as a follow up to help bring the worm load down in my goats. When worming like this I usually have to give a little probiotic power to some of the goats with weaker stomachs for a few days with the redcell. When the goats cease to scour stop giving the probiotic, and when good color starts coming back into the eyelids of the goats stop giving the redcell. Good luck farming Matt Ford.

      Rooster Booster B12 Supplement: This replaces crucial vitamins and minerals (particularly vitamin B, which helps prevent infections).
      Blackstrap Molasses: You HAVE to use blackstrap and not any other kind of molasses. It contains iron, which your sheep need to reverse the anemia.
      Garlic: Garlic is a great natural dewormer and can help keep the parasites away while your sheep heal themselves. I used minced garlic, but I believe any kind would work.
      Apple Cider Vinegar: Use apple cider vinegar, preferably with the Mother. This will boost the immune system of your sheep and also fight parasites. ACV can prevent other diseases in sheep, too, like Twin Lamb Disease.

    How long do dewormers typicallly take to work?

    • @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646
      @mattfordsgoatfarmingtips1646  Před 3 lety

      Wormers start working within a day, but your goats recovery time can be days or even up to a full week. I had one get down once to the point that the color was gone completely out of her eyelids and she was just laying around. So I wormed her and gave redcell , hand drinched water in her mouth to drink and hand feed the goat for a week till it got its strength back. So worms can be devastating to goats. Worm early and you will have less trouble. Watch the goats inner eyelids for color to indicate the worm load they have . Red or pink your goats are fine, but light pink is the sign it’s time to deworm. If the goats inner eyelids are white then you need to deworm and probably give redcell as well to build back the blood they lost to the worms. Best of luck with your goats.
