    Hey Makai!
    Glad to the see that Video. I have the GF66 as well. Months ago I had an accident in the morning, moved wrong, cup of coffee overturned, whole coffee went over the keyboard. I reacted fast turning the laptop around to let it drop off.
    At 13:00 it looks that the metal plate is some kind of protection to separate the keyboard from motherboard. What are the chances in your opinion that something went inside?
    Laptop is still running and seems nothing happened. Some keys felt like sticky pressing it down. But it was gone away after a few days.
    Lately I am worried. Replaced RAM and M.2. Since then I had 2 Black screens with white Lines and one black screen with white squares obstacles. I am insecure that these are late effects from my coffee accident month ago. What is your opinion to the chances that coffee went into the electric?

    • @MakaiTechReviews
      @MakaiTechReviews  Před rokem

      Hey, well without checking the whole motherboard it is hard to tell if these issues are caused by the accident or not, but most likely thats the case. If you did not done it yet, I suggest remove the motherboard and inspect it if there is any visible mark. Technically you can clean up those spots with Isopropyl alcohol (it is good to desolve sticky materials from the pcb, but also vaporize pretty fast so wont cause any short, when you power back on the laptop). The metal plate somehow can "guard" the motherboard, but not totally sealed so some drops can still flow through. The tricky situation is cleaning the keyboard assemly is such a pain, for that I suggest to remove it completly and (1. use an ultra sonic cleaner) or (2. submerge it in a soapy warm water and try to use a brush to remove as much coffee letfovers as possible) - dry it with warm, but not too hot settings with a hairdryer until it is fully dried up. Put it back and profit. Hope I could help.

    • @mzockt
      @mzockt Před rokem +1

      @@MakaiTechReviews hey thanks for the informative answer. The thing is those issues never appeared directly after that coffee thing. The period between accident and issues is about 2 month I guess. So I can imaging that liquid wise i was lucky. The first bluescreen appeared 1 month after I received it. However I will not disassemble the motherboard. It is just 6 month old now and I still have warranty. I will send the issue and notebook to MSI if the issue appears again and let them diagnose. Evtl. The book gets traded by a new one. Disassemble it by myself will kill warranty. Let's the if the issue appears again. I will let you know here. Cause in the meanwhile I replaced RAM and exchanged the Kingston SSD against two 970 EVO Plus. Makes that thing a beast in his generation.

      @MakaiTechReviews  Před rokem

      @@mzockt Dont know if you tried it or not, but if blue screen issue can also be caused by incompatibility with specific RAM brands and models. Usually these kind of issues can be mitigated with a BIOS update. Did you checked if there are any new version of it?

    Nice video. I recently bought a GF66 12UG, similar to this one. Temperatures are going high as 98C when gaming. Technical support tells me its normal and to replace thermal paste myself. Does it make sense for a brand new product? Do you have any recommendations on the thermal paste?

      MSI laptops have some heat problems in general sadly.
      But if you have some technical capabilities you can fix them with only two problems remaining,those being aesthetics and portability.
      What i did on this exaxt model is i took 3 12V PC fans,stuck them together in series,and hooking them up with a 12V plug from an old router.
      I put them under the holes where the laptop takes air,also leaving a 4or 5 cm gap between the new 12V fans and ground so they can pull cold air ass well,that brought my temps from 85C on mw3 campaign with everything to extreme to 55C constantly.
