To me the greatest baritone voice of the last century was that of Ettore Bastianini’s. Many of his
Colleagues have described it as “liquid gold” or “burnished bronze”, dark velvet and other similar adjectives. When you hear it once you never forget it. His duet from Rigoletto with Renata Scotti is unforgettable as is the duet with di Stefano from Forza del Destino in fact whatever he sang was unforgettable. A great loss to the Opera World at such a young age.
