One thing I like about most Emma Stone performances is that she has knowing eyes, like her characters seem to understand and know a lot more than most other characters think she does. It’s one of the reasons she’s able to play “the straight man” in comedies like in Easy A, Zombieland, Crazy Stupid Love, La La Land to an extent. She does not have that in Poor Things because she literally knows less about the world than everyone else, and it’s brilliant. It would be cool if she won the Oscar because she deserves a lot of credit for how great she is as Bella.
This is interesting because I think she does carry a “wisdom” in her eyes (naturally but also brings them out when she acts). In Poor Things she seems to show intensity but also naivety and it’s such an interestingly complex expression to have but she pulled it off.

The end stages of Bella Baxter always made it seem to me like she was playing a Vulcan. She would be great in Star Trek with that character as a Vulcan acting like that

The sex scenes show the way to freedom. Like when she discovered her body she just wanted sex even with the dumb guy because in that state it's all that Matters to her. But she quickly realized that he is an idiot just using her body and her naive mind (like older men creeping over teenagers or 18 year olds. A lot of women had the experience that they were more catcalled as teenagers than as adult) When she is in Paris she thinks Prostitution means that she can decide which one she wants to sleep with. She still enjoys sex but ofc when she has a say in it which obviously is not going to happen but she doesn't know what to do with her life yet and since she was used for sex so much she thinks it's the only thing she is good at and we know her true passion at the end of the movie. Its very important that we never see her having sex with Max her fiancée, because he interested in her mind and not really sexually
True lol it’s a cruel and horny baby-woman. I think a lot of the symbolism is about ideas people project onto women though. That they’re helpless sex objects, or need to be studied, etc

The prob with poor things is the story/script. Cut the incessant sex scenes and show more of her character development ffs

Ya this movie was very conflicting to me. The actors were amazing, the costume and set design was amazing. But the storyline and themes were very disturbing and controversial. It was really overly sexual. Like extremely graphic sex scene constantly, with someone who is basically underage.
What I hate is that everyone clearly missed the plot point that her brain was developing 3-4 times as fast as a normal brain. I’m sure it’s not comforting it is disturbing to see a child’s brain think the way she dose but by the end of the movie it’s clear that she’s matured into a grown adult within what a year? So no. It’s not a movie about people having sex with an infant inside of a grown woman. It’s the story of a girl becoming a woman through her own exploration and experiences. Sex isant everything I’m so sick of people twisting this movie worse than it is, the movie is very aware of how fucked up of a concept it is but if you pay attention she’s not a fucking infant the ENTIRE movie.
The character is getting rave reviews but I say the character is SELFISH. ME ME ME. It's all about me and what I like. I don't like people who demand their way.
