    I was there with 3 of my HS buddies. The first ever on campus ESPN College GameDay show. We got 4 tix to the game about 2 hours before kickoff. Yes, we were getting anxious.
    The only game I can say was better and more intense than this Game of the Century #1 vs #2 match-up that I attended in person was the 1988 Catholics vs Convicts game I was also at, #1 Miami at #4 ND. That game was just bonkers and deafening from start to finish. But this was a similar atmosphere and darn close.
    We ran on the field afterwards, just a crazy scene. The euphoria of a victory like that by your alma mater is hard to put into words. NO ONE IN THE MEDIA gave the Irish a chance even though ND was also 9-0 and #2 and at home. The media was calling the Criminoles "maybe the greatest team ever assembled". They wanted "good ol boy" Bobby to win his 1st NC so bad. Which is why the media jerryrigged the rankings pitifully for the Bowl Alliance NC game, ranking 1 loss FSU ahead of 1 loss ND to face # 1 Neb, even though ND HAD CLEARLY PROVEN THEY WERE THE BETTER TEAM IN THE GAME OF THE CENTURY!! What a fraud that was. Deprived ND and Lou of his 2nd NC in 6 years. Lou was never quite the same after that travesty. Thank God the game video will forever remind us who the best team in college football was in 1993.

    • @ericdaniel323
      @ericdaniel323 Před 4 lety +3

      The exact opposite argument from '89. ND had a better record than Miami (12-1 vs 11-1) against a harder schedule (7 wins over top-20 teams) and were #1 all year with 23 straight wins, but Miami won the head-to-head so they finished #1.
      In '93, both teams were 11-1 and ND won the head-to-head, but FSU basically got a mulligan. FSU only fell to #2 after losing to ND, but ND fell all the way to #4 after losing to a top 15 BC team a week later.

    • @GentlemanJack295

      @@ericdaniel323 Here is the thinking. ND MUCH better than BC therefore FSU doesn't fall as much when they lose to them. BC much worse than ND and so ND falls more after losing AT HOME to a much worse team. See, it's simple. FSU had a good loss and ND had a bad one.

Alabama is 12-0 and FSU is 11-1 with a fluke loss to an 8-4 UNC. Using the "better loss" rule, Alabama finishes #1 even if they lose. That's absurd in my opinion.

    • @GentlemanJack295
      @GentlemanJack295 Před 4 lety +1

      Eric Daniel It’s not a hypothetical it’s fact. The one loss ND had was worse than the one FSU had. Head to head in regular season doesn’t and shouldn’t always rule. The problem with your hypo is that it is end of year AND neutral field which matters. That’s why losing AT HOME is a worse loss than on the road. I busted that one.

    • @ericdaniel323
      @ericdaniel323 Před 4 lety +1

      @@GentlemanJack295 you're adding a lot of provisos now. We will have to agree to disagree. I think Miami should get credit for '89 and ND for '93. Using your reasoning, ND should get '89 and FSU '93. That's one more for FSU and one less for Miami, which I guess should be a win-win in your opinion. Pollsters saw it differently in both cases, but they had a huge love affair with Miami.
      As an aside, that '89 ND-Miami game at the Orange Bowl is the only time I've feared for my personal safety at an athletic event. I'm glad they tore that dump down. They should have torn the whole rotten program down with it.

    14:05. One of the dumbest play calls in FSU football history. They tried to get too cute in this game. They thought this was the 1991 Michigan game all over again and it wasn't. They underestimated Notre Dame's speed and athleticism. Hubris at it's finest. I know Bobby Bowden was the river boat gambler but this was not the time and place for reckless play calls like this one. My other major gripe is how do you not give Warrick Dunn more touches???? He was the best player on FSU's offense besides Ward. Multiple times Ward just ignores him with green grass in front of him. He's only one of the greatest players in FSU history. Don't give him the ball or anything. ND played a better game and deserved to win that day. I wanted the rematch so badly that year in the Orange Bowl. That would have been a great year for the 4 team playoff. I would have loved to see ND and Nebraska play in the Semi-Final.

      ND deserved to play in the NC game vs Nebraska. The media felt sorry for "good ol Bobby" and jerryrigged the rankings because they thought he deserved that 1st NC. When you have 2 teams with the same record, 1st tiebreaker is ALWAYS HEAD TO HEAD (See 1989, Miami vs ND). The Irish proved they were the better football team up and down the field. To put FSU in OVER ND for the NC game means you'd have to pretend the Game of the Century wasn't even played. Absurd and ridiculous and a travesty for this 1993 squad and Lou.
