Absoultely brilliant, great insight to the use of the bus, well done to you and all concerned !!!! One error, the seat fabric is not 60s. This fabric was used when these great buses were refurbished bt London Buses, back in the early 90s. Your video and use of bus is a great credit to yourself !!!!
@@alanandhisbus3416 Please dont think for one minute was I saying anything negative, especially re seat covers !!!! I stand by what I say, well done mate.
Well that's the cleanest fish and chips shop I've seen for a while I'd say. I bet people have fish and chips on your bus just to sit in a London bus. I'd love to do that definitely as well as eat fish and chips meals 🙂👍! You're a very good driver too from the video I've seen where you drive the Routemaster on a circuit - you don't want like to go to 45mph on country roads given the age of the bus. Smart and simple peace of engineering this Routemaster is clearly 🙂!
Thanks Mitchell! We keep the food and serving area spotless and strive to keep our top Level 5 Hygene award. Yes, bus is very popular when we go to events (unfortunately, not many since Covid struck).
Decent slab of battered fish with Beer Batter chips, hold the vinegar thanks Alan! Doesn't look like a mobile chippy from the outside. Love the top deck. Great innovation, you've done well!
Absolutely brilliant, you have done a fantastic job & I'm sure it would be very popular wherever you go & what a joy it would be to sit upstairs & enjoy the view while eating your fish & chips on any given day no matter what the weather is outside. Well done indeed, it's an absolute credit to you & all your hard work!!

Hello Bob. I really enjoyed the design stage. Having to try and think of not only fitting everything in but the plumbing, wiring and access for servicing was a challenge!
Absolutely brilliant, you really have done a great job of combining three elements. Firstly keeping the outward appearance and the traditional seating as original which is hard to do when you are trying to run a business. Secondly you have fitted the restaurant upstairs and the chip shop downstaires in a manner that it is well planned and fits perfectly and thirdly you have installed some modern fittings and electronics that make life easier without it detracting from the character of the bus. I wish you and your bus a happy working business life at the steam fairs and show.
@@martinsands7987 ohh pff. It’s a route master given a new lease of life and reason to be. They’re pretty iconically British, and there’s not much more British than fish and chips. Seems perfect, and gets driven and used. Annoys me no end when these things either end up as precious princesses that never get driven, or some farmer puts them in a field and lets them rust just waiting to see if the value goes up.
Alan, I watched you taking your bus out after it had stood idle for 2 months and during the commentary heard you say something about fish n' chips. Now I've watched The Inside Story, everything has become clear! What a lovely way to keep your RouteMaster thriving. I love it. Have you booked to attend any 2021 events yet? If so, I'll make a point of attending so I can say hello.
I’m pleased you now know what we’re about! I haven’t booked any events yet as don’t know if and when we’ll be operating again, but hope to see you. Come and say ‘Hello’ if you see us!
I dont know how I stumbled accross your channel but it brings great memories of when I was a kid travelling on Routemasters . I have subbed and dinged the bell and will do some catching up of your videos. I note you are in the Fenns so unfortunately too far from Kent to travel for come Fish & Chips haha.................Keep Safe.............Cheers Kev
Thanks Harry, wouldn't say that. It's interesting doing the desiging and thinking about the plumbing and wiring and servicing all at the same time so you optimise everything.
Hello Ian. Great to hear from you! I wondered what the screen was all about and though it might be a CCTV. I mounted my camera behind it so I could monitor customers (especially mischevious kids - when I have to run up the stairs and give them a ticking off)!!
Hi Alan, from Australia Your Bus is amazing and hopefully when the Lockdowns have ended you are back on the road and delivering your fare too many places again. Hopfully is we come back to the UK when things are settled we can come and enjoy some fish and chips upstairs. May I suggest you place your details in the about tab on CZcams website contact info. Thanks for the journey around the bus and your village. Steve & Chris
Very enjoyable and interesting video. I just wondered how do you prevent the oil in the pans from spilling over when you're travelling. I'm assuming that as you move from one village to another the oil will be hot?
Nice setup! Drinks cooler? If you were in Australia, those drinks would have to be near freezing to be acceptable.. lol. Btw, you wouldn't happen to send an order of hot chips to Australia, by any chance?😜 Awesome video and bus Alan!
very clever. you have an outstanding bus layout. those side benches at the aft end, i can see those being an ideal place for passengers/employees to ride between locations. one question, red diesel here in the states is another name for farm fuel. diesel that hasn't been taxed for road use and has been dyed so it can be spotted if the tank is dipped. massive fines if caught. is it the same there? and does that mean that they allow farm fuel for the non-automotive systems of your bus?
Great restaurant! You mention at the end that you kept the original 60s fabric on the seats...they are not...you have in fact got a refurbished seating finish dating from the 90s. Also the interior lighting is not original and could be a refurb' from the 90s too?
We have a removable door which is closed when not in use. During the winter we leave the door on, but in the hot summertime it can be lifted off and stored round the back of the bus but replaced overnight.
It's a lovely atmosphere when people are eating upstairs, particularly at busy events. Unfortunately, the top deck is closed for now until Covid restrictions are lifted!
Although it is considered a 'quiet' generator, and I chose one that specified its low noise and low revs, it is noisier than I'd like. Bit a bit of a 'trade-off' since most events have external power. We use it mainly on the 'Village Run' where most customers buy from the window and leave. Still very popular for diners to eat upstairs, even with the genny running!
I have all the original seating and fittings stored and could be returned to original. There are hundreds of beautifully preserved Routemasters out there and interesting to see a few conversions to bar busses and catering. Better to see it still used and serviced than left abandoned and deteriorating (like one in Peterborough)!

Seat covers are from 90s refeb that tfl did. I remember 60s inside alot darker.
Thanks for the correction. Yes, I realise now that the seats are from the 1990 upgrades - still, they've done very well and very hard wearing.
Do you get asked for weddings ? Look up Events under canvas , they always looking to add fantastic additions to their events
Hello Dan. Yes, we often get asked about RED BUS for weddings. I'll check out your suggestion. Thanks.
very clever. you have an outstanding bus layout. those side benches at the aft end, i can see those being an ideal place for passengers/employees to ride between locations.
one question, red diesel here in the states is another name for farm fuel. diesel that hasn't been taxed for road use and has been dyed so it can be spotted if the tank is dipped. massive fines if caught.
is it the same there? and does that mean that they allow farm fuel for the non-automotive systems of your bus?
Hello James. The bus runs on standard taxed Road Derv. But I fitted a seperate 110 litre tank for Red Diesel (no tax) to run the built in generator.
Great restaurant! You mention at the end that you kept the original 60s fabric on the seats...they are not...you have in fact got a refurbished seating finish dating from the 90s. Also the interior lighting is not original and could be a refurb' from the 90s too?
Hello 'I say...' yes, you are right. I stand corrected! The seat fabric and the lighting was installed in the 1990's refurb program.
How do you close the back and keep it secure from wild life, rats and so forth?
Which as a chip shop bus could be a real risk I'm thinking
We have a removable door which is closed when not in use. During the winter we leave the door on, but in the hot summertime it can be lifted off and stored round the back of the bus but replaced overnight.
