  • This how to video tutorial shows how you can make your own custom planters for succulents or cacti using Smooth Cast 300 poured in a Dragon Skin 10NV mold.
Dragon Skin® Series silicones are high performance platinum cure silicone rubbers that can be mixed 1A:1B by weight or volume and cure at room temperature with negligible shrinkage. Cured Dragon Skin® is very strong and very “stretchy”. It will stretch many times its original size without tearing and will rebound to its original form without distortion. Dragon Skin® is suitable for making high performance molds and is used in many special effects applications, especially animatronics where repetitive motion is required. It is water white translucent and will accept pigments for creating color effects. Cured material is certified by an independent laboratory to ISO 10993-10, Biological evaluation of medical devices, Part 10: Tests for irritation and skin sensitization.

Smooth Cast® 300 series liquid plastics are ultra-low viscosity resins that yield castings that are bright white. Vacuum degassing is not necessary and they offer the convenience of a 1:1 mix ratio. Your fully cured castings are machinable and paintable. Smooth-Cast® plastics offer tremendous versatility and economy. They are easy to use and you can add different colors and/or fillers for an infinite variety of mind-blowing effects. Perfect for casting detailed models, props and cast effect pieces.

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. Been searching for a very long time for something like this. Do you have another video maybe with a different shape other than round?

Any alternative product by smooth on that will be compatible with making a mold for cement planters? The 10 NV is difficult to find in my area and online. Any other products that don't require vacuuming that you would recommend?

    Hi Reynolds,
Thank you so much for such a nice n informative video...
The hole in the pot makes the water to leak after potting.... how to handle that? kindly suggest
    Regards
    Sheerin

The soil should absorb most of the water. Place the pot on a saucer to catch excess water.

Can I use something else other than the clay? Can I use any baseboard? Are the materials reusable (board, clay, and pvc pipe) to make another mold. Also, I couldn’t tell when she was pouring, did she fill up to just the inner top of the pvc pipe or to the top of the cardboard? Sorry for all the questions! Have a great day!

Any non-porous material can be used as a base. You could make another mold using the pieces. She poured to the top of the cardboard. :)
