    Fun Fact: The director of this show said in a interview that Wolverine was forced to have an Australian accent because the executives thought Crocodile Dundee was a real popular movie at the time.

      Bro! I remember being an eight-year-old at a kid's pizza arcade (like Chucky Cheese) in 1992 and playing alongside two kids and two adults. The adults were smoking as they played with both hands on the controls and the cig in their mouths. Thinking back that was wild that was allowed in a kids-oriented business.

    I saw this in real time back in 1989. I was a senior in high school. I was big into comic books then. I was so excited I recorded it on my VCR. I re watched it over and over. Great memory.

      I watched this when I was 4 or 5 when CBS would randomly air in 93. I was so confused by the fact that the X-Men looked so different. This show made me start collecting comics because I was curious to see how their looks had changed over the years.

      fun fact the reason for that is they based pryde of the x-men to be exactly like the X-Men arcade game that was popular back then costumes and animation are spot on.

      I always felt that this pilot was way better and more accurate - with exception to Wolverine’s accent - than the 90’s Fox series. Moreover, the animation in this pilot was far superior.

    I’ll never understand how this pilot didn’t become a series. The next day at school, it was literally all that my classmates and I could talk about. We couldn’t wait for the next episode, but it never showed up. This, and the cancellation of “Mighty Orbots”, makes me question the wisdom of ‘80s TV execs.

      The series never became a show in part because of Marvel's financial troubles at the time. They were in such a financial hole that they sacrificed a 13th episode of Robocop to fund the making of this episode

      I was in 7th or 8th grade when it came out and I loved it and didn’t care about the Australian accent as probably most 11 year olds would not . Only grown a$$ men get their panties in a bundle over a cartoon that’s made for little kids and of course a cartoon and movies will never be 100 percent faithful to canon

    I had this on VHS in the ‘90s. We had like a total of 10 VHS cassettes, so my brother and I would just end up watching them over and over when there was nothing good on the 3 TV channels we had. It was a rotation of this, Temple of Doom, Terminator 2, and a few others. I still remembered the theme song and all the lines of dialogue from this, lol.

    According to story editor Rick Hoberg he gave Wolverine an Australian accent due to the Australian fad going on at the time and it was planned for Logan to be Australian in the comics but hes still Canadian till this day

      I read somewhere (I think it was Wizard in the early 2000s?) that Marvel was looking to retcon Wolverine as an Aussie and told the voice actor the same, then they saw the cartoon, saw that it was really lame, and completely backtracked.

    There's aspects of this that are simultaneously the best and the very worst. On the good side, Kitty Pryde makes a natural viewpoint character and the team composition is nearly flawless- I'd swap Dazzler for Rogue, but otherwise perfect. But that damned Australian accent on Wolverine!

    I watched this the one and only time it aired back in 1989 where I lived in NJ. I was 7. Every day after school I always watched Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends, The Incredible Hulk, Robocop and Dino Riders. This forever made me hooked onto the X-Men.

    Maybe in the next episode, had they made one, when Kitty gets her uniform, she'd tell Xavier that it fits wonderfully. He'd tell her, "It's made of a special fabric to fit you nicely and to correspond with your powers whenever you use them. All the X-men's uniforms are. A man named Reed Richards actually told me how to make this fabric."

    Am rewatching there 90’s series , apart from the other observations made it seems Kitty Pryde was the template annoying kid for Jubilee who came later . Dazzler was featured in 2 of 90’s Hellfire Club episodes. Animation is good .

      Because it costs a ton of money. They spend more so the pilot looks good on the hope its picked up. No way further episodes would have looked this good

      If you go back further to the cartoon 'Spider Man and his Amazing Friends', they had an episode that gave Firestar's backstory, and also featured guest appearances from the X-man as they fought Juggernaut. They gave Wolverine an Aussie voice in that episode too.

    Fun fact: this is what got me interested in comics in middle school. From the time this came out to the release of the 1990's X-Men series, I was well versed in the source material... So I was like, "wtf is Morph?!"

    I remember grabbing this on VHS at the local Kay-Bee Toys when the toy line came out echoing this lineup was on the shelves.
    I wish the animation quality was this high for most of the X-Men TAS we got later. After the 3rd or so year the animation became very elastic looking and super rubbery...this was a promising 'pilot' take though!

    If Marvel hadn’t been in such a financial mess and this would have become a series, it’s easily conceivable that they would have changed Wolverine’s backstory in the comics to match the Australian accent of the TV series.

      Japanese animation studios had the industry on lock in the 80s. That's why all the classic cartoons from the era were hyper detailed.

    This is the perfect addition to the already marvelous marvel animated universe. Unfortunate this series never materialized. This is a great pilot to a xmen series. It's action packed n it displayed perfectly the powers of each mutant. It's a true delight for all xmen fans!

      This was done in Japan. They took their time with cartoons back then. We always rushed everything.

      That's a newer thing. I think that was invented in the live-action films in 2000s and then added to comics later..

    I remember a local comic book shop used the introduction to this as a commercial, but they redubbed the voices to talk about the store. I have no clue if that's even remotely legal, but it's stuck in my head. I even remember Wolverine saying "These ain't yer daddy's comics, kid!" or something like that, hahaha.

    This one pilot resulted in the Konami arcade game, making it objectively, unequivocally the best X-Men animation.
