The fantatic Discover Channel series 'Legendary Locations' tells the stories of the worlds most infamous locations, and they paid a visit to Spike Island Cork to learn about the famine era 1840's prison that was then the largest prison in the world. Their research uncovered the story of Edmond Power who was arrested for stealing a cow, a crime of desperation. He was sentenced to 7 years and the mistreatment he received at Spike Island would turn him into a murderer. He was sentenced to hang but even in death the inmates of Spike Island did not escape punishment, as a demented surgeon was at work on the island!
