    This is such an interesting topic and I loved hearing your replies. I particularly liked your last reply because that’s sooo me, especially that you tidy things away only to discover that you need them again 5 minutes later 🤣 x

    In re pressing: I took tailoring classes in college in the 60s and the rule was “never cross a seam with another until it’s been pressed. “

    Oh that was fun to watch!! You and I have very similar sewing habits. I prefer to sew with and wear woven fabrics too… and for the same reason you do. And like you said, woven garments can be just as comfy as knit garments when they fit properly. 💞

    Like Indie patterns, always trace, always sew a muslin (I’m getting much better at choosing correct size, so often end up with wearable muslins). Rotary cutter, online fabric shopping because local options are very limited, always follow the instructions, sew slow - shoot for at least half hour per day - am pleasantly surprised at how quickly a project goes when I am fully present. Snip and iron as I go, and clean as I go (probably a little OCD). My apologies if you already know this, but here is some button advice: tape button in place and remove tape after sewing the button (can you tell I’ve had buttons escaping the presser foot on more than one occasion?), lower feed dogs, when done sewing, cut threads long on both front and back, use a needle to pull front threads to the back and tie all threads together before snipping excess thread.

      I did NOT already know that about sewing the buttons on so thank you 😊. And thank you for sharing your preferences!!

    Interesting questions & answers. I seldom sew garments, but have tried a few. I’ve mostly been frustrated by those, but at difficulty I can consult my mom who’s been sewing as long as I can remember. None of my friends sews much of anything, but CZcams has been such a blessing for me. I prefer doing machine embroidery projects. I’m more of a slow & steady person. I press as necessary on my projects. I’m a direction follower & find poorly written ones to be absolutely maddening. I wouldn’t buy a second pattern or design if the first one was poorly designed or if the directions were poorly written. I routinely try to tidy my sewing room.

    I just recently learned to sew on buttons with my machine. Life changing! I will never hand sew a button again. (Whitney from TomKat stitchery has a great tutorial.) I also love the indie patterns because they just fit better overall and are more inclusive. I rush right in and cut out the pattern and don't bother with muslins, mostly. I like to live on the edge.😂

    Love hearing your style, we are alike. I so agree with you about knits, they still cling to love handles. I recently started using indie patterns and I am loving them. I also send them out to be printed. I am a scissor person due to needing more practice with the rotary cutters....thanks for sharing.

    That was fun. Have you ever tried Pennie Fabrics in Sarasota? It's only about 45 minutes south of me but I haven't been. It looks like their fabrics are quite nice. I love how everyone does their sewing to suit themselves... as they should! My favorite way to obtain fabrics is at thrift stores... so kind of at a store... just not a fabric store. I've found some treasures and find enough cotton (and sometimes linen!) sheets to keep me having fun dyeing. I just had to make that bin (on Instagram) for my ice dyed scraps! Thank you so much for sharing.

    • @MichelleSewsAgain
      @MichelleSewsAgain  Před rokem +1

      I have not tried Pennie's yet. I feel like I need to make a trip though. We've driven back and forth to Sarasota a few times in the last few weeks and I saw it right there on 41. I see a shopping trip in my near future LOL!! Thrift stores are a great place to find unique fabrics 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I saw your bin for your ice dye scraps - such a cool idea!!

    Great insights Michelle. You made it so interesting - loved it. So much of what you said resonated with me - except for scissors. I use rotary cutters for knits but have fab LDH scissors for the wovens. Also agree re fabric shopping. I have a few local stores but the quality is poor or they only do quilting cottons- hence online shopping. Can’t wait to see what machine you decide on. 😊

    • @MichelleSewsAgain

    Like you I am an impatient sewist. and have always been. I 've been sewing for years ( 50Plus) and still hate to trace or make muslins.. I prefer scissors .. Hardly ever use knits..prefer wovens..hate a messy sewing room and tidy as I go.. Once or twice a year I spend a whole day and take it apart and donate what I thought I loved but no longer do .. Love Style arc patterns but again the instructions are sparse so I definitely wing it then. I use iron on interfacing but the other kind is best for coats I find.. I do not like PDF's that I have to tape together.. I have done it for small projects but have ordered others already printed.. I do prefer tissue paper than that heavier stuff.. I guess its what I am used to.. .. Not sure of other questions now but thats my preferences..

    Yes, Style Arc directions are not good. But I do like the look of most of their patterns. And I’m a paper person and I can get a paper pattern in Style Arc. Don’t want 5o deal with pdf. I learned to sew in 1965 so I’m pretty old school.

    • @MichelleSewsAgain

      I feel the same way Cindy - their instructions are not the best (but they are getting better!) but I love their style! I prefer buying their patterns from Amazon when they're on sale because I can get them printed. Thanks for joining in the discussion!
