Spending the night in a NYC Capsule Hotel (My First Time!)

  • Hey everyone! Last week I traveled to New York and wanted to stay in a capsule hotel! I found this place that wasn't a traditional capsule hotel like i've seen online before, but I thought it was a cool american take on the experience! (not sponsored at all btw)
So some background, this was called Pod 51, and they offered a wide variety of rooms and sizes for pretty affordably. It was much more affordable than the previous chain hotel I had stayed at before, and a competitive price for the air bnb's I had checked out in the area. I mentioned a hostel had peaked my interest, but in the end this place checked all my travel boxes.
Anyway! Let me know, would you stay here? Or would you stay somewhere similar?
Did the shared bathroom freak you out?

This is a truck driver's daily routine. The room is bigger than the truck cab. Highly recommend flip flops for shower shoes. I use hand sanitizer or some disinfectant for the toilet.

We stay at Pod39 all the time and while ours doesnt offer a shared bathroom feature, its consistently cheap (for NYC) clean tidy and exactly what we need considering most times we're in the city we're barely in the room!

It's like a slight upgrade to a typical dorm. And for $150 per night for being in/near downtown NYC that's not bad, as whenever I looked they were always $300+. When I think if pod hotels though, I think of the ones in Japan which are literally big enough for one person to sleep in and that's it, but then again, in USD those are a lot cheaper (I've heard like $25 per night) so the $116 per night for this "pod" hotel doesn't seem to bad and looks like it has enough space to move around so you don't get claustrophobic.

Just got back from nyc today and stayed in A Pod, in Williamsburg. Stayed in the queen size (traveling with my husband). About the same layout , but we had a bathroom in our room, with a shower above the toilet. Pretty cool layout. Enjoyed the hotel , not a lot of room in the rooms but plenty of roof gardens , lounge nooks on each floor . Also in Williamsburg awesome bars and cafes with in one block . 🖤

FYI - That "little blanket" at the end of the bed is for you to be able to put your feet on the bed with your shoes on. It keeps the dirt off the bed and why stores that sell beds have them on all the beds. It doesn't work well as a blanket or comforter as you discovered

  • @Leslyisaunicorn

Many many many years ago I stayed there when it was called the Pickwick Hotel. Looks like they upgraded everything EXCEPT those phones. That’s crazy! The room was very cozy and it had a shared bathroom connected to the room next door with additional private bathrooms in the hallway. I might stay there again for old times sake and the price was OK but I was able to get a private room at the Hilton Garden Inn for about what you paid for the Pod.
