It’s not that bad. If used correctly, with a baton pass set-up, its signature “First Impression” can become dangerous. Plus you can still heal up with “Leech Life”
@@michaelirazori9214 The unfortunate thing is that Emergency Exit really should've activated AFTER Golisopod made a move. Because Golisopod is already naturally very slow it will very often get knocked down below half HP BEFORE it even gets to make a move.
Wimpod and Golisopod have the same abilities but renamed. It also ties in with how Guzma abandoned his Island Challenge.
It's not cowardly if it's a tactical retreat.

The lazy ant, that knows how to make others lazy (entrainment) is actually a fun strategy to use

Lazy worker ant does exist in reality as well.
Durant can actually run truant viably. Using truant + entrainment was a somewhat common strategy in gen 5-8, especially in 1v1s.
There's also lopunnys ability: klutz, so they can't use the held item, which is useful if you want to trick a bad item with your opponent but it's rather situational

@@turkoositerapsidi that's still a pretty good thing. You don't get the move locking effects of choice band so you can kill Ferrothorn and/or switcheroo a choice band to another mon
@@Cleffr but ferrothorn may survi special attacks better then, but at least it would lose the damage bonus and as you said you can try use opponents choice against them.

Probably because the trade off is once it evolves if it had slow start as it’s ability, that changes to filter, where it now takes less damage from super effective moves.

I really love the visual of illuminate causing your opponent at like the world championship to have to battle like 50 wild zubats before they can battle you.
Abilities are supposed to help Pokemon out, unfortunately these abilities hinder some of the Pokemon
Especially Regigigas.
Imagine being a legendary with normal stats for a legendary and of all the legendaries its the one that gets a bad ability while Pokémon with stats higher than it get good abilities.
I feel like some being bad makes for fun gimmicks, like regigigas + weezing but they haven't done it perfectly yet
Slaking just should need stats buff now when palafin exists. Regigigas ability could give it sleep immunity when it's not in full power yet or something, but these abilities were meant to cause problems for the Pokémon that have them.
@@turkoositerapsidiA better idea imo would be to make the abilities have some extra effect afterwards, for an example Slow Start, after 5 turns it boosts all Regigigas stats by +1 or something, maybe also give Regigigas another ability alongside it so you can choose whether you want the tradeoff or not…
This makes it interesting where you can choose to use the “bad” ability but it will help you out if you get it to work…
(also Slow Start should be 4 turns instead of 5)

These abilities would probably need a buff. There were some videos about it.
I think Archeops’ ability is fitting, considering its BST is higher than any other fossil.
But why is it so high? If it were lower, it could have a good Ability.
Would be nice if the ability also had a confident stance where it's attacking stats are increased when more than half hp. And it would learn moves like roost and brave bird and head smash. Or at least drill peck maybe flare blitz and earthquake.

Just what I thought. It would keep the spirit of the ability, but it would not only be a bad ability. Should learn roost and head smash brave bird flare blitz maybe. And play a message when the Pokémon is confident or defeatist.
Could boost both attack and sp attack 1.5 when abowe half. And cut them when not.
It's also the fact nobody clicks either of those moves on metagross anyway, either the pokemon who get those moves don't click it again and switch or use knock off or smth

Archeops needed a better ability. Defeatist was just a hard nerf to it just because it took enough damage to bring it's HP to 50% or lower!

Truant sounds similiar to truteń, which is what we call male ants or bees in my language (Polish), so I always asumed Durant having the ability was a play on that.
Yeah, but the original language is Japanese, not English or Polski. But that is pretty fun coincidence.
Illuminate was great for shiny hunting or hunting items only held by wild pokemon. If only Staryu wasn't LeafGreen exclusive, it would have made hunting a Chansey holding a Lucky Egg in the Safari Zone just a little bit faster for me in FireRed if I had access to Staryu's illuminate

Not a useless ability but rather bad circumstances. Delibird gets both Vital Spirit and Insomnia...two separate abilities that prevent it from sleeping. Well at least he has Hustle as an alternative...even though Hustle comes with its own problems and isn't even good on Delibird because its Attack is lower than its Sp. Attack.
I'm used to "Mind's Eye" letting me bonk shells and horns and the like without my weapon bouncing. ...I guess hitting things you're not supposed to be able to is a similar theme here.

truant durant is amazing actually, especially for battle facilities in games like the battle maison or battle tree in xy/oras/sm/usum, you can just lead with durant, use entrainment and then you can freely set up any pokemon you want taking advantage of the other pokemons truant because they will never switch

Emergency exit for golicipod is the absolute worst for such a cool pokemon
Game freak could just buff the ability that golisopod would still do it's move if it can move that turn before running away.
They could've just made the description "the user *will* hit you"

Slow Start shouldn't reset the 5 turns when you switch out, and it should double the defenses (or like 50% since they are already like 110 each) during those 5 turns. That would make Regigigas an awesome pivot that you could switch into safely for 5 turns, and then clean house when his defenses lowered and speed and attack rose. Of course, now that he has Body Press, a boost to defense would be pretty terrifying, so maybe something like an Aurora Veil effect that doesn't increase his stats, just decreases the damage taken.
Truant should really get some sort of beneficial effect, either making it so you can only use attacking moves every other turn and status moves in between, or let Truant-pokemon hit through protect like Urshifu so you can't just cheese them by protecting when they're allowed to attack.
Defeatist should have a regenerator effect where the pokemon regains 25% health by switching out after defeatist is procked. Or give Archeops a hidden ability like Berserk that boosts its power after reaching half health, and buff Defeatist so it gives some kind of boost while above half health, then the opponent doesn't know whether they should bring you to half health to weaken you or if it will buff you.
There's a very easy way to fix Slow Start and Defeatist: make them go up instead of down.
Regigigas has its normal Stats, then if you keep it out for 5 turns it's Attack and Speed double.
Archeops has double Attack and Sp.Attack until it hits half health.
That's how Wishiwahi works, so why not?
Archeops would be too busted with that rework, maybe a 1.5x boost until half and then .75x attacks?
I was thinking that archen and archeops ability would have when more than half health giving it boost in attacking stats (maybe 1.5) (not a boost like boosting moves), and play message ( is being confident, but if drops to half it would say it gets to defeatist mindset. And it's stats are cut then. But it should learn roost.
when you give the float stone to a light metal metagross it brings it down further enough so that the move does less than maximum damage
Mind you Durant does have Entrainment, so it's more of weapon, than downside. It's still underwhelming Pokémon outside of that though.
And Regigigas' Slow Start is actually not meant to nerf it - its made like that, because of the thing it's based on, a golem fighter that had to be deactivated every few days, as it progressively became stronger and stronger, if it operated infinitely (which actually happened leading to the village it was meant to protect, be destroyed).
Durant has access to the move entrainment. Presumably gamefreak wanted people to be able to weigh down your opponent with truant using the move, as impractical as that is.
Mycelium might is also just awful, who thought anti-prankster would be a good idea
Always thought that Durant getting Truant was a play on how ants always work hard and need a break.

fun fact: in order to stop Slaking from dominating double battles they made it so Entrainment failed when used on something that had Truant, even now where Skill Swap, Gastro Acid and Neutralising Gas work on Truant, Entrainment still doesn’t
It just clicked for me why Durant has Truant!! In real life, ants will work for 20 min then take a 5 min nap. They do this all day and night. So this was just a cute little Easter egg twords that!

So during one of my playthroughs of Emerald I used a Kecleon and its moveset was rock tomb, brick break, arial ace, and skill swap. The entire strat was to swap Color Change to the Opponent and always have a super effective move

Mycelium might should just be mold breaker for status moves in addition to low priority and immunity to encore and taunt. Would keep it's spirit but make it better.
