    Well here I thought I was the only gun nerd with great taste in vintage and vintage style amps and guitars and basses! Like I have an all original 68 drip edge bass man with matching oversized cab and that’s my K31 Swiss. And I use a 92 strat or 95 SG Standard though it and that’s my CZ-75! I also run my 51 Tele bass Pbass which would be the CZ variant LOL HAHAHA. I have a 1970 Bandmaster stack as my Makarov and only play my 58 tele through that which is my Mosin Nagant 91/30 that’s used only for traditional honky tonk hahaha. 60SG Custom cream with white guard gold hardware and a bigsby and three humbuckers through a Marshall plexi 100watt super lead.....you guessed it that’s my M1 Garand with my old slab side colt 1911 at my side battle combo! Everything in my life is God first then guns, guitars, amps, and custom bobber Harley Davidsons! And yes I try to involve my 9 year old daughter, siblings, parents, and grandparents as much as possible especially since my love of firearms, guitars, and Harleys comes from the last two hahaha!!!!!

    I bought the Radial ABY box with phase reversal and ISO Switches so I could play both channels. Works great and sounds huge. This is the way to get around phase issues between two channels. The reason some go out of phase is because one Channel has an extra gain stage and thus when using both together one signal is flipped. The Radial box removes this problem by sending the guitar signal into the second channel already flipped so when it exits it is in phase with the first.
    Edit: for my twin reverb

    For anyone thinking of doing this, you MUST read! This works great but you need to know the tricks. The 2 channels are out of phase so you need an a/b/y pedal or what I do because it’s free, although not as good as having the pedal, set bass on normal channel to your desired level and the treble to zero and set treble as desired on vibrato channel and bass to zero. Start there and make small adjustments but always keeping the eq mismatch between channels. Get the best tone you can, then flip flop the settings between channels and see if the tone is better. If not put them back and your done. The channels are out of phase and mismatching the EQ helps thicken the tone. It’s the key to getting the great tone without an a/b/y pedal.

  • @mark5150ty
    @mark5150ty Před 3 lety +11

    If you bridge the channels and you're having a phase issue, all you have to do is make a special patch cable. You want one end of the cable to be wired normally, and the other end of the cable you just switch the wires. That will clear up any phase issues.

    Eric, you can’t just bridge channels. All reverb amps, unless internally modded, will be out of phase. The phase issue is caused by the reverb side having an additional preamp stage.
    Any time you go through a tube and the signal goes through the plate/anode(standard amp circuitry), the sine wave is the opposite of the signal coming in at the grid. The opposite is true if it goes through the cathode, the signal leaves the same as input by the grid. Btw, this is how a cathodyne phase inverter works(5E3, Princeton Reverb, etc)
    Most Fender amps without reverb can be jumpered(successfully), except the Blonde/Black/Silver Bassman. The 6G6,AA and AB Bassman has two preamps on the Normal and three on the Bass, like all reverb amps.
    *You are canceling out your signal if you jumper amps with different amounts of gain stages per channel*.
    Edit for clarification- Even numbers or multiples of even number of stages will not work with odd numbers of stages. Example - A 4 preamp stage channel can be successfully jumped to a 2 preamp stage channel.

      @michaelcraig9449 Před 3 lety

    • @samsara_ara8471
      @samsara_ara8471 Před 3 lety +1

      @Michael Craig There are certain pedals that when you use them, they invert your signal, one of them being the Dynacomp. If you use an ABY box to send two signals to each channel, one clean and one with the Dynacomp, you should end up the two channels in-phase.

    It has to do with gain stages. If both channels go through an even number of sides of preamp tubes they will be in phase. If both channels go through an odd number of triodes they will be in phase. However, if one goes through an even number and the other channel goes through an odd number, they will be out of phase and will need to be fixed by adding a pedal (like many aby pedals) with a phase switch on it to fix the signals so they complement each other instead of cancel common frequencies. Cheers.

    The bridged phase issue occurs only on reverb amps, Deluxe Reverb, Super reverb, Bandmaster reverb, etc. These amps have the extra 12ax7 reverb mix tube on the vibrato channel, that inverts the phase. The older Fender blackface (Reverb) amps are exactly the same, can't do it! All other amps without reverb are same phase, ie: Deluxe, (no verb) Tremolux, Bandmaster, Bassman, Concert amp in the video. The patched channels sum together, and sound good.

  • @guitarocd9984
    @guitarocd9984 Před 4 lety +1

    Are you sure that only channel 2 has the presence control? Usually the presence knob controls the negative feedback circuit in the power amp (not the preamp) and should affect both channels.

  • @TheFRiNgEguitars
    @TheFRiNgEguitars Před 8 měsíci

    If your Fender amp has reverb, the channels do not sum. But without reverb, the channels do sum in phase. The reason is the extra 12ax7 mix tube (verb return) inverts the phase on the vibrato channel. The older blackface models are no different, if it has verb, the channels are out of phase. For example: the Deluxe amp can be bridged, the Deluxe Reverb can not... you'll have phase problems and reduced gain.

The baseman with out mods will not work because the bass input goes through 1 more,gain,stage than the normal,channel really thats all,it comes,down,to everything else in,yoir video is correct and,honestly what is the purpose to bridging a baseman anyway I suppose the deep and the bright would,be able to,play with that some,I suppose but there are no effects to manipulate

    OK - let me add my 2 cents. First, the idea of running a patch cable between the two channels gives me the heebie-jeebies. Some amps I guess wont mind but dear God if you try that with some older gear you'll be on eBay looking for new driver tubes. THe problem is you are out of phase. A patch cable will attach + to + and - to - and that is NOT proper bridging. THe idea in a amp bridge is you take + to the cabinet from one amp (or channel) and the - from the second channel. Then you cross the - from channel A to the + of channel B. This is almost always done with identical mono amps (or channels if you amp has 'em).
    I was blessed and cursed by growing up in Colonia NJ in the 70's. Cursed because they now say all us CHS graduates are getting brain cancer (check the news). Blessed because I studied amp building with a neighbor named Ken Fisher (and if you don't know that name, shame on you - Google it). We played a LOT with bridged amps because Ken was always squeezing wattage out of KT-88's - and bridging DOES combine the wattage of both channels. I recently worked on a MESA Boogie Bass Prodigy (sold it on Reverb, look it up, item # was 77534315) and it had a switch right up front to do exactly when Ken was doing decades ago.
    TAKE MY ADVICE - if you want to do this, have someone make you the right cables to do it. Again - channel A + to speaker cab, channel B - to cabinet, and A - tied to B + (be careful saying B+ around amp builders, it means something shockingly different).

    Im still a little unclear what exactly the reason for doing this is? Are you just able to broaden your tonal pallet? Seems like it could damage the amp though...or shock me :(

    • @JethroBoDean
      @JethroBoDean Před 3 lety

      It depends on,which amp,you have there is,no danger in bridging it will,nkt increase any shock hazzard you will know pretty quickly if your amp,is abke,to be bridged with success the reason is just as he said it gives you more,control over say the intensity and,speed set them,hiw you like and,then,you can,control the volume,of them,that is the reason for,the bridge volume,control of the reverb and tremelo do you want, it to be in your face or,subdued thats the control you get from,bridging the reason it doesnt,work,on some,amps is stages of,gain if one,channel,has 1 more stages than the other thats when,you,will get the phasing issue nothing to be fearful,of just wont,sound,good you'll know,right away try it oit though I think you'll like your amps,even,more it does add an element of,simething,new,to,mess with and,if your a,guitar guy most,likely you like something,new,to,keep you stimulated
      to keep,improving,this is just another thing,that I think,you'll get a kick,out of and,may imspire,you to a new level
