Not only did this stagger me, the 12.5% max hp and 3 protection did not prevent me from getting killed next turn. (I am now currently dead, waiting for clock to turn to a better ego gift)
I do think that there's a real argument for Painkillers being a niche pick for current and future builds that actively want low health: Don Lantern, Shi IDs, etc. It helps get you to those low health values without having to risk going TOO low and just exploding.
For some reason the respond block didnt disapear when click to post, and just kept reporting with each clikc I think i eliminated most of the repost already, just hope youtube dosnt mark me as bot for his stupid code and fuck me up.

Wait... are you saying... the second you hear the staggered shatter sfx... you don't speedrun to the "give up" option? My optimal gameplay... cannot... handle... just playing the game normally... There's no recovering if you get staggered... it's just an instant loss if a single person gets staggered...
Painkillers are made with Copium You'd think that you're able to win every clash But then you roll tails, get staggered and get to down the whole bottle to cope for a 5% chance.
Esgoo is right and axe is wrong, just because you heal more often and it can overheal sometimes doesn’t mean that it isn’t still healing more often when you aren’t full hp. You usually only take 1 hit per battle if that, and it usually won’t stagger you. Healing item heals you to full. This happens like 10 times per md run, and stops you from getting staggered in the first place. Painkillers will maybe save you sometimes and be nice by itself, but will usually only trigger once or two times per run if that if you don’t have healing.
Ah the painkiller. My honest opinion is nothin fancy. I usually see bonuses like that as either sth you get if your other priorities are already taken care of or if you are planning for failure. The idea is that it helps if your IDs get staggerd, right? It can potentially save them a bit but you knwo what else helps a staggered ID? Not letting it get hit in the first place with clashing. If you cant clash then a boss will kill your staggered boy anyway. 30% dmg reduction is not enough in my experience. Just don't get staggered. And if a boss is a weaksauce who cant kill your staggered boy then how the fuck did he stagger you in the first place? I guess if we really want to make use of it then maybe it could work with a tanky ID. I would have preferred if this gift gave you like 50% dmg reduction and no healing cause 12% is not enough and I can just bring fluid sac. Wait I just realised it could be useful against bosses that force stagger you. Like that stupid robot that is unclashable. But once again, I would take this gift only if there is literally nothing else to buy. A "lunar memory" jest zajebiste i nie zmienisz mojego zdania. Dostajesz w nim turbo power fantasy i możesz się pośmiać jak biedny boss pada na jedną lub dwie tury.
Boss can stagger you because shity luck or missing a 5% ego coin toss. Then you are fuckd, painkiller save you against minions, if the bost target the stagger you redirect. Is clear people have never play tank or 10 levels under before

I agree Painkillers is solid, 3 Protection is a lot and it specifically targeting an ally that needs healing is perfect. That being said, for that same reason... I feel weird seeing Phlebotomy Pack in the same tier as all other healing options, when it heals so much very consistently. More importantly, with Painkillers, allies are all but guaranteed to survive when they're staggered, and starting from that point there's no more stagger thresholds and the healing gets even better. Basically what I'm saying is Phlebotomy Pack is peak and Painkillers has incredible synergy with it and that's why it's especially solid. Thoughts?
Phlebotomy Pack is good, but can't heal you to full. In fact, I think there's a certain threshold it just can't go past because of rounding. That can become a problem if it's your only healing gift and you have a lot of fragile IDs with high thresholds. If anything, I'd rather combine it with Homeward or Prejudice--Painkillers, I'd rather combine with Lithograph.
It’s REALLY not good, it’s niche at best, 3 prot is a lot, but that doesn’t help much when your taking DOUBLE SAMAGE, 12.5 is alright… on homeward which activates for free at the start of every battle, I could MAYBE see it begin useful if it unstaggered them, but it doesn’t your still down a man next turn, that man is taking double damage -like 15-20% maybe 30% don’t have the prot scaling in front of me, and I’m pretty sure the prot is same turn, so next turn when the ally is still staggered, it’s gone and they take double damage… it’s borderline worthless, atleast medkit outright stops someone from dying in the first place. Phleb pack is just objectively more useful in more situations, life leech is fantastic especially when battles near the end of mirror dungeons generally don’t have you taking much damage at all outside of the boss
The problem with painkillers is that it’s planning FOR failure not planning on preventing it, if you get staggered your LOSING the fight at the moment, and if you took something that actually benefitted you directly instead of painkillers you probably wouldn’t be staggered to begin with.
Ive never said thank god i have painkillers, but i have said thank god i have phlebotomy. Painkillers is neat but to say its a solid item is a stretch tbh I dont really get staggered often, even in mdh but when i do it was nice to have. Wouldnt say its ever came in clutch, or saved my life, but it has certainly been ok.
I don't think I've ever gotten value out of painkillers. Maybe once or twice. Homeword has almost always given me value and probably saved several runs. I'm understanding of the WoW raid healers but it really doesn't translate here lol
I know Axi mentioned playing bad teams. But I feel like Esgoo and Walvader are just neglecting people that don't have many units from casually playing or new to the game. Painkillers are solid as they avoid the overhealing Axi mentioned. I often have encounters in hard where I need to use E.G.O. to just win a clash every turn on certain units or tank a hit and get staggered. I prefer painkillers over most other healing items due to the previously mentioned scenario along with Fluid Sac healing and Gregor's support passive being enough on most fights.
Well yes but on their own they are worse than the other healing gifts because they do heal you even if you are at say 75% hp and prevent you from actually getting to stagger with tanks or other units with lower stagger thresholds. Like one of the arguments axe made was that painkillers usually activate at the end of the battle so that's basically what homeward does but applied to the whole team even if not staggered and just missing some hp and the ring one I forgor the name of
This Black Square guy with two letters on him is spitting absolute facts.
I'd like to take this time to remind the commenters that facts are merely a statement and could be true or false.

Guys did you know that John also uses painkillers from Mirror of the Lake to numb the pain of being stuck in a cycle of wake up, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, wo
