We went to look at prospective greyhounds to adopt thinking a smaller female and came home with a 34 kg Boy ! But he was the one for us and he has us under his spell absolutely
Think cat like rather than dog

She is beautiful!! We have decided to adopt an ex racing greyhound later in the new year as a companion for our whippet Bob!

We also came to the same decision about a greyt 2020. 13 days until the beautiful boy GAP-QLD matched us with comes home!
We lost our amstaff not long ago, and the silence in the house is deafening, I can't wait for the pitter-patter of little feet to grace our lives again.

@@trevorcollins9297 they're just the most beautiful of dogs! To be honest I had a hard time moving past the "buuuut whippets" myself until I saw JayBays profile (if you're curious you can do a search for Jay Bay GAP qld on Google, he's a handsome man).
Maybe we'll just have to add to the family with a whippet and another grey down the road 😅

Lol, I'm no stranger to greyhounds, I even had one years ago who was a dog out of the world record holder Ballyreagan Bob amongst others years ago when in my 20s. Now in my 50s so know greyhounds and would love a companion for my 2 year old whippet. Love your channel by the way and have subscribed!!

Reitred greyhounds are not as easy as this video makes it out. They do definitely have a lovely temperament and love to sleep but there are other factors to consider.
    - They have never met other dogs and they will often take some time to socialise with other dogs. They often do not like small fluffy dogs. It's recommended they wear a muzzle when out at least until you know your dog well enough.
    - They have a strong prey drive therefore it's not recommended to take them off their lead unless in an enclosed space. Greyhounds can go from 0-45mph in 3 strides. They can see something in the distance and it doesn't matter how good you think their recall is, there is a very high chance they will not turn back once on that drive.
    - They usually have lived with other dogs so are not used to being on their own. They can be 'velcro' dogs so you will need to train them to deal with separation anxiety.
    - They have very thin skin and low body fat - they feel the cold and heat very easily. They can easily be injured.
Despite all this they are wonderful dogs. We love ours to bits, but i think this video just doesn't cover the facts that you should consider before getting a greyhound.

Thanks for putting out this information for the people who will see this video. I heard the woman in the video say they can leave their dog at home alone while at work and I was surprised they didn´t say anything about letting her getting used to being alone little by little. This is deffinitely a dog that has been fostered. I have been talked out of getting a greyhound atm by the poeple in the community because of their issues with social anxiety they often have when you get them right out of the tracks.
Deffinitely read up on any kind of dog you intend to adopt. Every one has pros and cons and apparently getting a greyhound is like getting an anxious puppy for a while.

We are three weeks in to our adoption and have become well aware of the velcro nature of ex-racers. He experiences very strong separation anxiety which will need months of training out.

I am 67 years old my Labrador retriever died due to cancer on 9-11-2019. I want another big dog. I have a 19 pound 8 year old Min Pin . All my dogs are rescued. Will a greyhound do well with a small dog. I have 100 acres plus, but I understand I need to walk a greyhound 10-15 twice a day. Also I have a 4 year old granddaughter.

They can do well, just bring the dog you already have with you when you go to meet some greyhounds, and make sure they get along. Make sure your yard is fenced in as well
