Columbo is better than any crime drrama on TV today, including the streaming channels. They all look for the same effect that each episode of Columbo had,. It shows what a great actor Falk was.

When I was growing up in the 70s-80s I was only used to seeing Eddie Albert in "Green Acres". This episode made me see him in a completely different light when I first saw it. He played it to perfection. This is one of the underrated episodes in the series. Suzanne Pleshette was always a hottie and one of my early crushes as a youth once I saw her in "The Birds". A timeless beauty.

This is the episode where Falk was in a dispute with the producers. As such, he refued to be on set for much of the production and many of his shots were done later.
Pay attention to this clip and you will notice that there is only one time when Falk and the other actors are in the shot together. The rest of the time it is separate closeups edited together or seeing Columbo from the back with a body double for Falk.

I think in the entire run of the show there were only a few times when Columbo got physical. (not counting the non-Columbo wedding episode) All the murders were distinguished men and women, and rarely did they put up any kind of struggle. I wonder how many convictions Columbo ended up with. I bet it's less than we would imagine. In this clip... oh yea... he went away, but there are other times... if you had a good lawyer you might get off.

Peter Falk had a disagreement with the producers in this episode and actually walked off the set and refused to do some of the scenes with Eddie Albert and Suzanne Pleshette. If you watch the editing in this scene, you can see them cut around the problem, filming Falk separately after he came back to the set. But the experience left a bad taste in Albert's mouth, and he was very vocal about expressing it in a very pungent way to Falk.

Columbo should have figured out that it didn't matter to question whether Helen had poor eyesight or had been drinking when she said she saw a man get shot. She said he was wearing a uniform in a home which turned out to be the home of a general. That alone spoke to her believability.
