  • I get asked which bike repair stand fits the Mate X A LOT. I used to just turn my bike upside down to work on it. But I was doing a lot of work on the bikes a few months ago I did some research and picked up the Park Tools PCS 10.3 stand and it makes things so much easier.
    In this video I’ll go through the stand, the differences between this and PCS 9.3 and how I mount my bike to the stand to work on it. On a side note the PCS 10.2 and 9.2 are pretty much the same and will also hold this.
    Disclaimer: I bought this stand with my own money with no discounts from the manufacturer to make this video, nor did park tools know I was making this video or had any preview or editorial say in what went into it…
    In short I’m making this video as I had a lot of questions about what I was using and I really like the product.
    Amazon affiliate links below if you want to buy a repair stand for your bike, which won’t cost you anything extra but helps me make more videos like this one. As mentioned in the video, you don’t need one of these stands (especially if you don’t do much work on your bike) but it does make it easier.
    Park Tools PCS 10.3 (the one in the video)

    Park Tools PCS 9.3 (the cheaper alternative to the one in this video)

    Cheaper alternatives to Park Tools that other people are using with their MATE X bikes.
    Bike hand repair stand - amzn.to/3xOtjcP
    Rad Cycle stand - I’ve seen a few people using this… but it’s only rated to 30kgs so it’ll hold but only just - I personally wouldn’t trust it - amzn.to/3jZyu4z
    Any other suggestions leave them in the comments and I’ll update the description as I see more.

    @Gareth dix, where did you buy the bmx bar and stem? That is the specs of the handlebar? Tnx mate!!

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  Před 2 lety +1

      The original stem I had isn’t there anymore but either of these will work (just needs to be 1 1/8inch for the fork tube, and 22.2mm for the handlebar, and also links to a couple of options on the handlebar, which needs to be 22.2mm to fit the original hardware on the handlebars. The other measurements are down to personal preference, but I wouldn’t go wider than the ones in the links… but worth figuring out the height in case you want something higher or lower as these can’t be adjusted afterwards. I basically went low and narrow for the look.

      Thank you so much! If you don’t mind me asking how long have you been waiting for the bike so far? Just wondering whether they managed to resolve their supply issues since the bike was launched.

      @@GarethDix I placed my order in the beginning of June 2021. Estimated delivery was at that time July till August, but I read that some customers have waiting much longer than 2 month 😱 we will see 😄✌🏻

      I know there were issues with all electrics this year (not just mate or even Ebikes) but I originally waited about 15months for my bike during the original Indiegogo campaign so I’d hope that it’s much faster than that now! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

    Me again 😬 is that modified Chain Ring on your Mate Bike effectiv. Do I need another Chain for it. Have you got a tutorial video, where you show it step by step?

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes it’s a modified chain ring, it’s a 58T with 130 BCD. You’ll need this at the top end as you’ll feel like you’re pedalling on air with the standard one.
      I haven’t done an installation video as it’s literally a case of undoing 5 hex bolts and then screwing the new one in… but I can do a video of it if you like?
      In the video link below I go through all those modifications and the description has links to all the parts I’ve upgraded on the bike so you get the right part czcams.com/video/3L4d9FuILA8/video.html
      I do need to do an updated video of upgrades as I’m still making modifications to the bike so stay tuned for that one!

    • @GarethDix
      @GarethDix  Před 2 lety +1

      oh and I forgot to mention you don’t need a new chain, the standard one is pretty loose so this upgrade actually resolves that. the only other thing needed after you install it is to adjust the derailleur which is just a couple of screws, but this is the video I used to learn how to do that and it’s about a 10-15min job czcams.com/video/UkZxPIZ1ngY/video.html

      @Techniksalat Před 2 lety +1

      @@GarethDix Hey sounds not so complicated, that I thought. Thanks for offering to create a video for it, but I think 5 bolts and a bit adjusting, I’ll give it a try first.
