He's got a brilliant attitude and effort and is good at defending just needs to work on his cross 24/7 in training! Tbf to him tho he was bought as a RB in a 4 at the back not a RWB

Attitude and effort is all he has (which isn't a bad thing currently at N17). But he's just simply not good enough to be playing in North London
He is an intelligent footballer, a lot of people don’t notice his positioning in attacks. He just needs to improve his crosses, as he wastes all the effort with the last cross/pass
His ability to get himself into useful positions is something to build on. He has such a great attitude. He just needs constant work on his crossing.

Even as a Spurs fan who has given Royal a lot of credit, due to the fact he's being played out of position, in a new system, in a new league, under a new manager and learning a new language, I think it's too soon to say that he's been great or "transformed", hes had a handful of decent performances and he deserves credit but he might not be the answer to our problems, who knows?
I'd rather sell Doherty than Emerson because Royal has shown to be a hard worker and IF the management changes next year...well having a fullback could be an incredibly useful asset to us.
Not only that, he's been defensively solid and is a few years younger than matt Doherty. Hes a decent player and seems like a good person with a happy spirit cut from the same cloth as moura in terms of personality, and that's important in and around the dressing room/training ground.
If we get Porro, I expect Emerson or Doherty to stay as competition and to fight for a spot.
I saw a player in him from day one, he can't cross a ball yes, and he does look like Bamby on ice when he's in possession, but the man gets up and down the pitch, holds off a man well, and has built up a bit of a link with kulusevski. He gets into good positions and now he needs to work on what to do when he receives in those spots. Lets see. I think he could be an interesting asset to us if conte's faith in him pays off

Interesting take. I agree that we might regret selling him if Conte leaves and we go to a back 4. Although, in order for that to happen, we need at least one quality CB to partner Romero and we don't seem to be able to make that happen.
The good thing, he's loyal and wants stay @ Tottenham, he spent 800k off his own pocket on training out side Tottenham to get better to please his boss and the club.

honestly stick him center mid and have him play a ngolo kante role cus all emerson is somewhat ok at doing is running and defending. thats still a stretch... he has the occassional good dribble but thats really all there is.

@@sibo5204 I'm not basing it on the video. I don't watch every match but the few times I've seen him play live he was good. I'm just a bit suspicious how many times I've heard people say "the thing about Emerson is he's a decent right back but he can't play wing back". I'm curious how many people came to this conclusion independently without hearing it from some fan made content. Not saying he's amazing, I just don't get why he gets so much stick. We've had significantly worse players down the years

This is mostly a video of him falling over and not being very good at crossing. His defensive work is decent.
I’ll give him credit for his defensive contributions but he hasn’t improved at all going forward. Never runs in behind or drives up the pitch with the ball, and when he is in a good position he normally makes the wrong decision
He's a trier and is apparently great to have around the place and just had a decent game against Fulham but he's been a disaster lbf
