Thank you. I'm so tired of getting a youtube short of someone's graffiti and seeing people in the comments calling them toy and just ripping on them. I really wish more people would just help each other out. Back in the day, we didn't have CZcams or reddit to be able to talk to other writers from around the world and share tips. You had to learn that shit on your own or have a friend that teaches you. No one is gonna take away your limelight. They aren't gonna ruin the culture. Calm down, and give a fellow writer some tips if they need it. In the wise words of Tommy Wiseau: "If a lot of people love each other, the world would be a better place to live." I get a little sad thinking about how many people might've given up completely on graff just because some kid was insecure and ripped on them enough to make them want to quit.

@Phantasy Phantom I'm not an OG to this either. I've tagged a few things before. But in the past few years, it's the first time I've actually dedicated literally 90% of my time to learning how to do graff properly. And it really is easy to be repelled by all the negativity. And i get it. Graff is a dirty, grimy world. But I feel like this younger generation is so eager to talk smack to someone else to make themselves feel better about their own writing. Especially with the fact that you always see this negativity on the internet. Where these kids have pretty much full anonymity and have no consequence to talking smack. I bet you wouldn't see these kids saying that to someone in person. I just wish more people would help each other out instead of having the mindset of everything is a contest, and I need to be better than everyone else. There's always gonna be someone better than you in everything you do. Literally, everyone in the graff world started out as a beginner who didn't know anything. And there's always something new to learn, I don't care how experienced you think you are. And I feel like it's important to remember that and help people who are struggling when you can.

The hip hop clothing thing was always a thing in graffiti. When I was writing on freight trains in the early 90’s I ignored that nonsense and wore tactical / military clothing and wore high top hiking boots that I could still run in (tactical boots weren’t a thing yet).
Have fun breaking your ankle running through a field in a train yard in the middle of the night in your little Jordon 1’s.
It wasn't a thing in the 80's here mate, we used to go down the line after footy listening to AC/DC, topless because don't want paint on your guernsey, wearing shorts and still in our cleats. I shit you not.

This one dude joined me while i just began painting and he kept bashing me and grabbing my cans so he could do hit himself like 💀 he kept calling me toy and shit while i told him several times i just began painting.. while other graffiti artist kept helping and supporting me. Sometimes the graffiti community can be so toxic and mean while you can help others out instead of bashing them

I'm reasonably new to Graffiti and sticker slaps n stuff, I'd consider myself a toy because I'm still trying to learn. But I don't go about all that Bullshit of tagging private property and snitching. I usually just try to lay low and figure out my style before I start doing bigger and better stuff.

I haven't tagged since I was 11-13 back when I was in my seriously troubled and rebellious years haha, now I'm 21 studying in university but watching people tag felt awfully nostalgic.

I think adapting a street clothing style and telling everybody that your doing graffiti isn’t just a thing only toys do. I think all beginners (including me back in the time) started to dress like this and tell your friends about your new hobby, because it’s something new and exciting which is not seen that often. I would rather say Toys stay at that level because Beginners learn over the time they progress and get better, that your style or that everybody knows that your doing graffiti, isn’t that important and toys don’t realise that.
Only toys tell their friends outside of the hip-hop community about graffiti as a hobby and super toys even tell them their tags and locations. Keep friendship circles apart from each other. None of my friends outside of the bubble knows that I am a battle MC.
definitely the hip hop clothing thing. most of the writers i know in my area are into predominately punk and metal music and, for the most part, dress like it. everyone i've seen SUDDENLY get into graffiti also SUDDENLY look like an extra on a flava flav music video shoot. and if you're into keeping your sneakers super clean you're in the wrong art scene 🤣🤣

Toys always succumb to peer pressure. Getting a few drinks and catching some tags with the boys is always fun. But not required. I think its generally better to learn how do a decent throwie sober rather needing to get bombed everytime you go up

youfo is the reason i started graffiti i used to watch the vids back in 2021 and loved it but throughout the years i stopped and forgot about this channel but i saw a vid on my recommended and watched it and i fell in love again so i practiced and i now i am pretty confident and half decent so thank you youfo for getting me back into a hobbie.

Not sure if this falls into the category but in my teens i filled an abandoned house down the road from me. Nothing on the outside of it. Wich was fine until the front wall of the house rotted and fell off exposing all my practice work over the years. Rather embarrassing

It sounds like a toy is someone who just doesnt have respect for the art form. Or of anything for that matter. Graffiti is an art form with a set of societal rules made to keep a safe and diverse community. Its an expression. Even in extreme cases it's not violent.

Toys are sometimes people who are homeless and have a few screws loose which is actually quite sad but none the less it’s a choice they made to disrespect the people/places who don’t deserve to wear their mess.
The other week the graffiti remover for Yarra Trams was cleaning shitty tags off the tram shelter and I stopped and said something to the effect of ‘it wouldn’t be so bad if they actually did a good job… you should just hose back the word TOY and mess with them 😂’ he laughed.
I wonder if graffiti remover guys ever get to a job and don’t want to remove something because they actually like it. Actually that happened in Warrnambool with the artist who practiced his wombat with chalk on the side of a bridge and the council worker didn’t want the rain to wash it off and give it a permanent clear coating! Google it if you haven’t seen it!

I hate when I am filming a location and a wonderful piece is covered with garbage. Even though its not my own piece, It hurts me somehow, I feel it, I have great respect for the talent that goes into the art. Unfortunately I see this a lot.

I started tagging not too long ago, and after being slapped, insulted, called a toy frequently, and told all of my art is shit and to go home I learned my lesson. I'm gonna stick with a sketchbook, fuck going out and doing paints. It's hard enough to learn how to do graffiti, never mind having to deal with the community. I've heard that the community is great, have yet to see it personally

@@youfosignhere Yeah no disrespect to the community, I'm sure there's some great guys out there, but I've had nothing but toxicity from the scene here. It sucks we don't have any legal walls, and there's lots of good spots but they're usually in areas with gangs or a lot of snitches that'll call the cops the instant they see you with paint. Or they were tagged years or even decades ago, and I don't wanna go over someone if I can't do better than them
Im not very talented as an artist; I started getting into graffiti because I enjoy the art and I've never had an artistic outlet, being far more right brain. Your videos have helped me understand the culture, but I think I'm gonna ride solo from here on out

The amount of times I have done art on a game server just to practice or whatever and people have called me a toy for whatever reason when I know it’s nothing to actually do with me since other server users have comlimented my work it’s just petty
