Rimatara Lorikeet / Kuhl’s Lorikeet Conservation on Rimatara, French Polynesia - World Parrot Day

Celebrate World Parrot Day with us by discovering the stunning Rimatara Lorikeet, also known as the Kuhl’s Lorikeet or “ura.”
Meet Dr. Samuel Ravatua-Smith, who is dedicated to protecting and understanding this beautiful bird on the remote island of Rimatara in French Polynesia.
For the past few years, alongside Association Rima'Ura, Samuel has been monitoring the nesting biology of the endangered Rimatara Lorikeet, identifying causes of population decline. In 2024, thanks to support from our Parrot Conservation Grant Program, Samuel launched a project to study the preferred nesting habitats of the Lorikeet.
