  • Catch Monkey Marc playing his restored Emu Emulator EIII sampler in his solar powered shipping container studio.
    The Emu Emulator III sampler came out in 1987 and was EMU's flagship sampler at the time. 44.1 kHz @ 16 bit and analog filters on the output make this machine sound warm and full of life. Bands like New Order and Depeche Mode used this on their classic albums.
    This original price back in the day for the fully upgraded 8meg version was $15,000 US. Wow!
    Anyhow. Check it out here in full working order at my studio.

    Alan wilder took the emulator to new levels and made some amazing sounds from it. I think they did more with sampling in the old days to what they do now.

    I still think Ensoniq made some of the most affordable and best sounding samplers in the industry. Ensoniq definitely had the most samples available for their samplers. I see that ASR on your left.

    Still have mine. Has 8MB RAM, 40MB Hard drive (Both in EIII), Pinnacle 650 Removable/re-writable 650MB optical hard drive, SyQuest 45MB removable/re-writable hard drive and external hard drive (all SCSI). Man, that was good stuff back in the day and I worked it hard.

    You're dead on. Nearly the entire Violator album was recorded with the E3.

    I have an EMU Emulator III that was given to me for free and found on the side of the road. It powers up but I don’t have any software. I don’t really want it and I wish I could find someone that would come pick it up and be able to use it.

    Fabulous sounding machine the EIII (as all E-mus are) but flaky as hell..

    So this is probably a long shot, but is it possible to take a sampler that old and change the audio from 16-bit sample rate to 24?

    • @_Thorsten
      @_Thorsten Před 6 lety

      For what ? If the source Sound is only sampled in 16-bit it doesnt sound better if u play it back in 24-bit. All you can do is to convert it. But it still sound the same. And no, its not possible to change the sampling rate internally because the hardware (AD-converters) only support 16-bit.
