    Hi 😊
    After the color is fully mixed into the clay, don’t you wear cloves anymore to turn or sculpt?
    I want to make some sculptures that are ultra marine, really electric blue. What would you recommend?
    And can I use white paper clay for this? That’s my favorite clay at the moment 😅

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi 😊 Those are good questions. No I don't wear gloves because the stain does not transfer onto my hands as much and washes right off. I would recommend this stain - here is the link for you geni.us/MFjXr4h the more you use and the higher you fire the darker it gets. Yes you can use the white paper clay. It sounds like a great project. Have fun.

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Před rokem +1

      Hi Adriel. After you make the colored clay you would take a piece of white clay, then colored clay then white clay and colored clay on top of each other. Put the clay on the wheel and and as you throw it will create a swirl pattern.

    Would it be possible to mix the Mazon Stain to plaster too colour it.

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Před 4 lety +1

      Greetings Patricia😍Good question. Unfortunately no. Because plaster is porous and is not fired in the kiln the mason stain will come off like does on your hands with clay until it is fired in the kiln. However, you can add acrylic paint once the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. Test it out on a small amount of plaster to see if you get the desired results.😊 Hope this helps

    Would this not stick to the kiln shelf when fired love the idea thank you.

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Před 3 lety

      That is a great question Ann 😊 No it will not stick to your kiln shelf because the mason stains or (colorants) have no silica, alumina, or fluxes that glazes contain. The only thing that could happen is if use too much it can leave stains in your kiln. It has not happened to me but that is what my teacher told me.

  • @Odette_112
    @Odette_112 Před 3 lety

    Another wonderfully informative video, thank you, Marie! 💛 Why do you suppose some artists mix mason with slip and then let it dry on plaster bats? For color consistency or does the color come out differently using this method?

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Před 3 lety +1

      That's a really good question.😊 I won't do it that way, but different potters use different techniques to achieve the same results. It's like underglazing at different stages of the clay. you still achieve the same results. 😃

    • @PotteryCrafters

    Hi! What cone did you fire these to to keep the color? Thanks!

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Před rokem

      Hi Christi. You would have to low-fire the clay to Cone 06 to 04 to keep the color. The higher temperature you fire the clay, the darker it will become. That is something to keep in mind when adding the mason stains. 😊

    • @PotteryCrafters

      That is a very good question. 😊 The mason stains will stain our board so I use a separate board for colored clay. I mix different colors on the board and the colors don't get mixed together because I clean the board real good. I just don't want my main wedging board to have stains on it. 😊 Sure is cool to work with colored clay.
