I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I heard a story that Denis Leary's son was singing this song while at school and was sent to the principal's office about it. Upon calling Mr. Leary to the school and asking where his son heard the song, his response was "Heard it? Lady, I WROTE it!"

Let's get this straight. There was a time when the internet wasn't really a big thing. This was on PUBLIC TELEVISON, not the internet. Long before everyone got offended at every little thing. Back when MTV, VH1, BET, etc. still played music videos all/most of the day. When Beavis and Butthead was something you had to sneak around to watch if you were a kid. Where Aon Flux was the weirdest animation you'd ever seen, and South Park was still in it's infancy. Basically an era that wasn't all about censorship and canceling everything.

This video is so 90s. I remember watching Denis Leary and Colin Quinn on MTV in the 90s. Denis has been in movies and done some voices for animated films. So that is why is familiar. When I see him in serious a role, I expect him to be a comedian. Check out "The Ref" if you want to see a dark comedy movie with Denis Leary. his series 'rescue me' was amazing. played a nyc firefighter after 911. was very dark. an alcoholic dude who sees death on a daily basis while his life was crumbling away around him going through divorce. my 3rd fav series of all time after sopranos and breaking bad

Within the context of the time this song was made it was a brilliant push back while calling out some of the worst people for who they are. Like others have said check out his stand up special. This used to play on a music request channel called “the box” back in the 90’s. You only got this channel if u DIDNT have cable tv. So all of us broke ass kids had the box instead of mtv. 😂

All the post 80s macho men lamenting the end of the previous decade's tough guy fetishism - Arnold and Sylvester movies plus republicans sabre rattling the USSR ad naseum.
