      It wasn't about him hitting the ice that hurt his hand, if you bothered to listen he was saying the loose fitted handle and bad design of it was catching and pulling at his hand, hence why they brought up the sword flexing back and forth to the first guy, when force needs to go somewhere it's supposed to be absorbed by the flexing of the blade and a stable hilt, not by your wrist.

I think they are more meant to be a really abstract way of testing the blades to see if they can withstand extreme testing, just to set the better blades apart. The tests really do work sometimes because as blades break, they know they weren’t strong. Jay just always does it way too aggressively with no finesse and swings like a big bumbly sea bear then wonders why he gets “hurt”

So even if the person thinks they're fine, the higher ups will send them to hospital to maintain their product, for lack of a better term.

    • @Foxxie0kun
      @Foxxie0kun Před 4 lety +1

      Considering the grip was coming loose and the amount of force being used, there's a very real possibility of a fracture in the forearm, various bones in the hand, torn ligaments or tendons, etc. that if not treated could result in permanent loss of function in the hand.
      If it was the metal guard impacting the wrist or forearm, well, steel is harder and denser than bone and thus the bone would probably fracture if enough force was applied to a small enough area.
      That and TV production companies LOVE having top-dollar insurance on their performers' safety, health, etc., so it was probably the producer's decision to send Jay to the ER to insure that there was no damage, or that if there was damage, it would get treated as swiftly and thoroughly as possible.

      Larry Clark
      first off it is “wouldn’t ***have*** happened”, and second yes it would have happened if the handle was tight. If anything it would have been worse, when the blade rotates it has a bit of give where it doesn’t transfer to the handle if it was loose, say maybe 5 degrees of leeway meaning a 90 degree twist would only move the handle 85 degrees, if the handle was completely tight his arm would take the full twist. Hitting that ice and glancing off it is effectively the same as someone grabbing the blade of the sword and suddenly twisting it in his hand, whether the handle is loose or not isn’t going to change the fact that his arm is going to get twisted.

However, putting the appeal aside, why not make the strength test done by a machine? I hear he gets injured in these tests often. This would protect him from these cases. Plus I have reason to believe with the ice breaking off like that may have effected the users grip or handling. It may not have been the sword smiths sword at fault but random chance or user error.
