I grew up with lester, “the master blaster” one of Australia’s greatest athletes of all time! pitty the alcohol got a huge hold on him, haven’t seen him in 10 years hopefully his on the right track now.. all the best lster ❤
met barry tonight, i was his bartender, sat until close talking to all of us, telling each of his stories, completely humble, top bloke.
My dad and I went to this, top night/fight.

Bad refereeing he allowed to much dirty tactics happen, but it was his 1st title fight as a ref .

The pics of Barry Micheal the next day, his both eyes closed, face was black and blue, his head all out of shape, a mashed pulp, Lester Ellis without a mark on him, who won the fight, Lester, he was robbed
Lester is cut under the right eye can see it on the stool in round 7.
The ref allowed to much dirty tactics to go on which spoils the fight a bit. It was his 1st title bout as a ref.
Barry rehydrated well & looks to strong & very fit.
Great fight thou Lester’s mistake was showing to much respect & fighting to clean while Barry is using every dirty tactics possible

Brilliant match and a great display of Australian boxing! A lot of spirit and intensity - 100 times better than Geale Mundine last night.
great contest a huge amount of punishment these guys took is stagerring , either fought on the outside. A classic.
look at the great respect they both have for each other, especially Lester congratulating Barry Michael after losing his belt, Mundine could learn from this, then again he wouldn't have a clue about respect in boxing!

if you're from melbourne,it was probably on delay..much like when fenech fought jerome coffee..was shown on delay on ABC in sydney,live everywhere else..
Yes perhaps it was that geographical bias, where the hometown missed out, as to not impact the crowd numbers at the venue.

Pound for pound Lester was the better boxer and won this fight, He landed the better blows and done the most damage.
Sure he was hard and tough Michaels, but so was Lester, Barry never hurt Lester. He didn't look beaten to me at all, Only psychologically and partially due to Michaels bluffing him with the early celebration and the fact he was charging him in the later stages and grappling, he still wasn't hurting Lester and to this day I feel Lester is still psychologically bluffed by Michaels.
It could have very easily gone his way and if it did then Lester lives a very different life after that. He should be very proud of himself as even Michaels said, even at the later stages he was landing big blows with class, Michaels just had a hard head and was tough, But not tough enough to Hurt Lester.
So it could have gone either way and it's clear to me that Lester was far more impressive, Michaels style sucked and would have got his arse handed to him in the street by Lester 100 times over.
Long live the master blaster, The decision should go to who has the most damage done to them and who landed the better blows and it was Lester all day, Barry barely touched him the only thing he done was withstand him, But Lester also withstood Michaels to a greater extent so what gives?? The fact Lester was throwing huge punches through the whole fight and Barry barely threw any loaded blows shows Lester also had him covered for the stamina as well.
Michaels is delusional thinking to this day that he beat him jus y because a couple of morons with scorecards said so, that doesn't mean shit when the guy is still on his feet with barely a mark on him whilst Barry's face is hanging off. Think about it
fights ain’t scored by damage because I could fuck you up badly in 1 round & brake your nose & brake your chin & I win that round but then you beat me up for the next 14 rds damage sustained dosent always tell the story of the fight.
The problem was Lester was to young 20yr & was showing to much respect to Barry fighting to clean for his own good.
While Barry is using a lot of dirty tactics & braking a lot of the rules in almost every round & the idiot referee is allowing it to go on which spoils the fight.
It was the referee’s 1st title fight as a ref.
Barry has 10 yrs on Lester his in his prime still which showed in the clinching & the ruff tactics the extra ring time Barry had over Lester is what helps Barry win the fight but it wasn’t anywhere near as wide has the 3 judges had it.
I had Barry winning it by 2 rds 3 tops he edged it out with the body work in the late rounds 12-15.
Lester was just a teenager still had he been more disciplined & boxed him from the out side I think it would have been a totally different fight that he could have won.
Had Lester been in his prime also who knows he may have had the man strength to stop Barry because Lester was already a big puncher before his prime.
A rematch would have been excellent.

Anybody know the name of the black guy accompanying Ellis into the ring? He bears an uncanny resemblance to a gifted but volatile former English amateur star by the name of Mark Ellis. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Boxing is better than AFL. At least in boxing they don't change the rules every year. They've ruined footy.

Lester isn’t in his prime his 20 years old he was a little green still which showed Barry was 30 years old & the extra ring experience showed in the clinching & a few of the dirty tactics that the referee allowed to go on through out the whole fight.
But it was his 1st title fight as a referee so 🤷🏻.
