Moyes was the 2003, 2005 and 2009 League Managers Association Manager of the Year . . .
He's had some very good seasons at Everton & now at West Ham alongside tough times at Man Utd, Sunderland & in Spain. If he wins the Europa League Cup with The Hammers it will be well deserved given his commitment & persistent professionalism.
For me Moyes demonstrates failure doesn't have to be the end: if you love what you do & your approach remains honest & true - if you stay committed to a vision you might be given another chance to succeed.
I'm not a West Ham fan, but I would be genuinely impressed & pleased to see David Moyes lift another trophy (if we count the Charity Shield). It's clear how hard he's worked & how much it would mean to him -
    Good luck Gaffa!

Fantastic conversation. As a United fan, I thought he at the time didn't really grasp the fact that he needed to evolve from his level at Everton to master the United job (including keeping coaches and looking for better players than Fellaini to sign), so it was very interesting and very impressive to listen to how he today looks back on that too short a period. In hindsight, even though that season was disappointing, he should have been given at least one more year. With Herrera and possibly Kroos on the way, it might have been a different story. Respect.

He said something along the lines of "I probably should have subbed him, but I know you lot would have murdered me for subbing him when we needed a goal". Moyes wasn't making his own decisions, the pressure of the job was dictating to him. Maybe he would have gained the belief and authority in the end. He wasn't helped by players like Rio, who didn't really give him a chance. I honestly think that's why he wasn't offered a new contract at the end of that season.

One thing Mr Moyes could have said was that he is successful 'at the moment' . One of the things that he must have observed over the years is that things can change very quickly in football. It is very easy for the wheels to fall off overnight. So his biggest achievement at West Ham has been to establish a degree of consistency. This has led to a degree of success more than anything.
Of course a 'hard work' ethos amongst the team and staff helps and establishing a style of play that everyone understands and buys into helps. He seems to communicate that very well and that may be assisted by an excellent backroom staff that he has assembled around himself. The players trust him and welcome his input. But there are limitations to his approach.
Over the past few years he has navigated the transfer windows quite poorly, admittedly not wasting money, but not investing it especially wisely either. He has allowed very expensive players to leave at great loss to the club (Haller and Anderson) without properly replacing them. He has brought in new talent cheaply (Soucek, Bowen, Coufal, Lingard) but not always successfully (Yarmolenko, Banrahma, Vlasic, Kral).
Developing a better scouting system must be one of his current concerns and to be seen to bring in top quality players who can improve the team by not being afraid to spend. This summer will be pivotal if he is to move forward as many of his stalwarts are coming to the end of their contracts or their careers (Noble, Ogbonna, Fabianski, Cresswell, Fredricks etc).
Also, he rarely makes use of the talent from the under 23s academy who currently have an excellent crop of promising youngsters (Alese, Chesters, Okoflex, Forson, Perkins etc)
He also seems reluctant to use players on the bench, preferring to rely on a very small group of trusted individuals who always get picked to start. This works well until they become injured or when the fixtures pile up. Michail Antonio is a case in point who has no obvious replacement and has commented that he would like more competition for his place to motivate him to raise and maintain his standards
However, as far as representing his employers, the club, the players and the fans, he does a fantastic job. He embodies a common sense, down to earth and humble philosophy really well. He seems somewhat old fashioned by modern media standards, but that only serves to improve his profile. Never too happy, never too miserable retaining his dignity. No controversial soundbites but lots of common sense. He has shown great ethical standards too. People like him. People respect him.
But the real test of David Moyes will be whether he can leave a lastng legacy of achievement: silverware, glory.
Improving West Ham's level in the Prem year on year is important, European competition is important. Great games at the stadium create wonderful memories. But to be considered as a trully high achieving British manager he must win trophies! He must bring home silverware!
So far nothing. Fingers crossed. Come On You Irons!

Moyes was an Excellent manager at Everton and I'm looking jealously at West Ham wishing we still had him. Although I am behind Lampard now he is here.
Unfortunately Moyes burned his bridges at EFC with some Ill thought out and disrespectful comments around the time he left for Man Utd (a decision that no level headed Evertonian would have begrudged him - moving to a bigger club, one of the biggest in the world).
Regarding his time here, he turned us from relegation battlers to a team capable of finishing regularly 5th - 7th and even got us 4th. Took us to a Cup final too. He got Everton to be relevant again for around a decade which other than 95-96 and 13-14 we haven't been during the PL era. His flaws were in his courage against the top sides away from home and couldn't win us a trophy.
His best attribute was his eye for the right type of signing. Something we have missed since about 2015 when Martinez started off our decline.
A top class manager. Wish him luck.

Agreed, Paul. Man United fans don't need to look at the current Prem table to be reminded of what a real team of hard working players West Ham have .......who just happen to be competing with the likes of Sancho, Pogba, Cavani, Fernandes, Greenwood, Rashford, Fred, McTominay, Maguire, etc. Moyes is doing a great job and wants to strengthen the squad in the summer and you can put money on West Ham competing in or around the top six positions for a third season running. I'm dead certain that Rice will be staying on a official club captain after Noble has retired in June.
