From the Golden Era of enclosed American malls, Lakeshore still exhibits that quintessential look many of us older mall rats from all over will remember. #georgia #shopping
Where the Dicks is at was the other wing of the mall which was torn down and that part had a food court, arcade, and movie theater along with other small stores connected to the JCPenney and sears. The Belks was in the big building only and the one with the gate behind it was Roses dept store which that area was the garden center. Also the Firestone was in another location in front of sears. The one you see now was recently constructed.
To add a little more… the Mexican restaurant was once Morrisons cafeteria and then was ruby Tuesday. The books a million was once revco drugs. The carousel was in the destroyed wing that Dicks resides now. At Christmas time the area hosted Santa village
Hey, when did Morrisons close, and when did Ruby Tuesday open? Do you know when Revco closed and when Books A Million moved in? Also, any idea about the A&P closing date? I'm using this information to finish the wikipedia I really need to know, thanks so much.@@JoeyMetcalf80
@@JoeyMetcalf80 Also, before Revco it was Jacob’s drugs. Do you remember Piccadilly Restaurant? I think it was across the way from Ruby Tuesday’s ? Or am I thinking of Morrison’s?
This mall had everything you could possibly want in its day. Such a variety of stores from drug stores to high end fashion boutiques. A nice theater, food court, lots of kiosks and fun things to see. A large carosel in the middle. It was fabulous. I graduated in 1970 and I clearly remember the first time I went to Lakeshore Mall, even what I was wearing! Wonderful memories.
Thanks so much! I love this mall and I visit it often, the mall starting going downhill once dicks joined and replaced the food court and the other shop section, 2 new stores have opened! One in the former Victoria’s Secret and also the store next to that closet was a Radio shack!
Sears was THE place to shop when I was growing up. The Wish Book at Christmas time was amazing and every thing I got for Christmas came from Sears. It was sad to see their demise.
This mall used to be such a great place. The economy hit it hard time after time, I think the small stores couldn’t survive. It used to have a great food court, a big arcade, a $1 movie theatre, marry-go-round, ice cream shop, a lot of stuff to do. It was always nice to go there on weekends as a kid to have something to go do. It’s so desolate now I remember when they started to put up the dicks sporting goods, and it was never the same after that.
Great video. I would love to see one during the 70s. The Sears auto center was the part jutting out front when you were showing the employees parking lot. 1:14. Firestone was always Firestone I believe. The bars across the back of Belk, which used to be Rose’s, guarded the outside merchandise. Lawnmowers, patio sets, bicycles etc. There was also an outside eating area for employees.
I remember when the downtown district had a lot of business. It still does to a point but it's different. Antique stores, carpet store, drug stores, those are still downtown. No more 5 and dimes with a fountain. Nostalgia! 😃😃👋👋💖💖
When i was a kid, this was the place to be. Now everytime i go in, it just makes me sad. The other comments described it accurately, though im much younger then most of them, they started closing and renovating the place when i was about 15. Its a sad place now
We used to go there when I was a kid. Mom would use her JCPenney's or Sears credit card to buy my school clothes. My aunt would take me and my cousin to the movies there. They use to have a big carousel that I rode everytime we'd visit. They would have Santa at Christmas. I used to love seeing the mall decorated for Christmas.
We had a Sears Catalog store but they did have some merchandise inside. JC Penney had a big store downtown for a long time. When a Super Walmart went in we lost a lot of the good chain stores. JC Penney's did try to open a spot for a catalog store but it didn't last long. Those pictures of when it was open and the fountain ran, remind me so much of our old mall. It is still open with a furniture store, a couple of clothing stores that specialize in better made clothes, other stuff. 😃😃👋👋💖💖
@@BonedaddyToo It's really sad to see the ones we really liked go. We used to go to Woolworths and Montgomery Wards. I don't think they even put out catalogs anymore. Well, maybe on line.
So many dead malls across the country now. That one is at least still pretty well kept. There’s a couple here that I wouldn’t even dare go explore because it has so many squatters now.
I frequented that mall a good bit 90's-early 2000's. A man I was assigned with at the 802nd Ordnance Company, U.S.Army reserve center, (which is actually right across the road from the mall, on Shallowford Rd.) worked at the Sears tire service center at the mall, in the early 90's😁 But my favorite place at the mall was the Books-a-Million. They served some great coffee. Oh, the game room and the food court weren't half bad either.
We are seeing dead malls too in Va- hospitals have bought parts of it and made urgent care centers and the rest have gone to like HomeGoods and Marshall’s.
Amazing you could still smell bath n body works. We have a large mall about 20 mins away mostly shut sears etc. A small mall near me has bath n body works, and JCPenney's and a new Burlington coat factory. Seems the outlet malls are popular. Love nostalgia 🙏
A lot of malls across the globe are dying out I know ours is for sure nice coverage here bonedaddy of the place that used to be the hangout of the 70s 80s and sone 90s I know ours used to be that way
we have a mall that is similar , jcpenny left and the Belk used to be divided too . if these malls want to make it they prob should consider doing like 3-4 months of free rent so businesses can get established , just a thought , anyway this was a great little tour ,
Modern times. Corporations losing money to keep these malls going. So they break it up and sell the land by lot to those opening small shopping centers

I'm glad my child got the chance to experience at least a bit of it. Thanks, Terry.
The Sears and the Roses too🤗

Excellent job keep up the good work 👏🏾
Such a vibrant mall back in the day. I remember the time I went in and the music store had closed. Everything changed after that.
Music stores in general seem to be headed that way 😥. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for filming this! You should see the mall now, its almost full and very alive now. Just need to fix that vacant sears lol
Sounds like Krazy Dealz may be helping! Thanks for giving us a look.

Lakeshore's still in a pretty good location for retail. I keep hoping it may get some kind of revival. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
It is sad seeing the abandoned stores. We had a similar mall near us, but they tore it down. We used to buy all of our appliances from Sears.
Kenmore was a brand one could rely on! Thanks for watching this one.

Christmas holds my fondest memories of Lakeshore. Thanks for giving us a look.
I used to get my car batteries at sears service center, they were diehard 😎
Could drive away from there feeling secure. Thanks for watching!

Penneys had hung on there as long as it could there. There is still one store north of Atlanta, but I think it is on life support.

Yea I used to love going there it did have a merry-go-round and a food court and a game room ...and a movie theater 🎭

Books a Million is one of the few stores still keeping Lakeshore open. I have to stop in every time I'm there. Thanks for giving our video a look!
That outdoor area where those bars are was where Roses used to be many years ago.
Thank you for the history. I may be doing a follow-up video, and every bit helps. And thanks for stopping by!
Hi ! Looks good 😊

Spent lots of time here in the 80s.

With some work those old malls with open spaces for rent would make great offices. 😃😃👋👋💖💖
Agreed!
A blast from the past 🤠
Thanks for visiting it with me!
Very few dead malls here in Texas
Only real mall left in Chicago is harlem and irving park plaza. Which Is a mall. But surrounded by smaller shopping centers
Sweeping away the old to make room for the new in Atlanta's orbit here, Scott. Thanks for watching this one.
Ho vissuto lì per un anno a Gainesville ed è una città molto tranquilla e mi è piaciuta molto.Il problema era l'inglese.
Thank you for watching.
One time I was driving around that corner at Belk going towards JCpenny and a chicken came out from the bushes and walked out in front of me.
A person could raise a whole flock of chickens out there these days! Thanks for giving us a look 🙂
Wow that is bad, what a waste 🙈😐 thanks for sharing this information my friend 😍. Be safe
Thank you for watching!
Liked the sears catalog that was about 2" thick
Don't forget to set the clocks ahead after 2am Sunday!
Thanks Ray. These days the clock on the stove is the only thing needs changing 😁

i LOVED Sears and Mervyn's. Im not sure they had those over there but Ghottshalks was my favorite before it merged with Macys
Not very much left of the old reliable retail stores. Thanks for checking this video out!
Can the netherlands take this over and build houses ?😂
Its sad that they just leave it unused only a few shops ! Great share ✌🏽😎
Thanks for checking it out, Rock.
i worked at that sears in high school

So sad. I always shopped at Sears. Our Sears just closed with other stores. I also love JCP. These stores used to do some business!
Sears and Pennys was fancy shopping for this kid 😁. Thanks, Laura!
@@BonedaddyToo Your welcome 🤗
nice vlog
Thank you, Ma'am!
It's sad....abandoned stores
Thanks for watching, Yvonne.
Sears downfall was when they bought Kmart. Martha Stewart brought them down because they couldn't read between lines before signing
Sears never recovered from that loss for sure.
Looks like some of our malls
Sad to see them go. Thanks, Caryn.
Love those massage chairs
