That allen key is for the Pressure switch.
You need to adjust it so it shuts off pretty much as soon as you shut the flow off with a valve/tap.
This stops strain on the pump and as soon as you open the valve the pump will cut back in.
hey, what about amperage? isnt the car battery amperage too high for that pump?
@@maliknotice7149 I know this is an old comment. But the car battery amperage is how much it can supply. Not how much will be consumed by the pump. As long as the battery is rated for at least the same amps as the pump or more you'll be fine.
You are very helpful sir🙏🏽 dude like you who share their knowledge are a life saver
The pumps are tested at factory that's why there's alittle water in it. The Northern tool 12v 5.5gpm pump is great. I've been using it now for 7 months still pumping strong can reach over 2 stories high. I prefer the pump with the threaded inlets to quick connect ones cause the adapters are easier to get. 1/2 male with 5/8 barb just get a flexzilla 5/8 garden cut off ends side onto 1/2" to 5/8 barb clamp down good to good. To make the pump and hose last run fresh water through it after each use.
Way to go on getting it done. Look forward to a review on the pump later down the road. As for your battery add a second battery using a battery isolator solenoid so you never get stranded. Also very important for the extra battery cable you'll need use 1 gage and I highly recommend using welding cable as its a lot cheaper. Remember mo flow equals mo money so if you ever need more then 5.5 gpm just add another pump in parallel and you'll have 11 gpm when ever you need it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you

Hey john. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! My recent videos show my new setup. Still running 5.5gpm pumps, 2 independent batteries just for the pumps. Love it
Yeah man I ran into the same exact situation with the pump, Northern tools customer services was great and sent me a new one
Yeah they're pretty good. I was having too many issues after this vid. I switched to 5.5gpm everflos and they're great
The plumbing and electrical confuse the hell out of me 😅 none of my equipment works and I need to figure it out before I'm out of business
strip it down and make it as simple as possible
I noticed the pump you're using is actually a weed killer/insecticide type sprayer pump. Northstar actually makes a soft wash pump that is made to handle bleaches, sh, and surfactants. I hope this helps.
Hey Chris. I haven't used these pumps in 2 years or so. Check out some of the newer vids! 🤙
Pentair blaster pro ll.. 4.0 gpm @ 60 psi.. lasts forever and replacement heads are cheap and easy to replace
Mine came with water as well
Mine had water as well lol suppose they test em before they ship em out 😂
Must be! Hopefully they're aren't "refurbished" lol

Also on your wand build can you tell me what parts to get to that same set up you have? Thanks
Check my video list around the same area as this pump vid. I have an indepth wand build with links. Check my newer videos as the gun I use now is better than this wand. St510
Great video i appreciate it you just gave me a idea i have 200ft of yard hose and i have the same northern tool pump in my garage what kind of adapter do i need too hook up too a garden hose could YOU give me any valuable info please
Hey Ross. That particular pump came with an threaded adapter for connecting to a garden hose. If you dont have that same adapter, the pump should have came with other plastic ends - one goes into the pump and one can be used with a hose clamp - just cut the metal end off the end of the hose and clamp it to the plastic adapter on the pump
@@YoungAmbitionYA thxs buddy
What is the name of the black splitter you have connected to the pump, that lets you pull water from 2 places.
It's just a little tank and pump set up from tractor supply. It was junk
Does the pump work good on a yard hose and can you shoot up 2 stories with it if you can make a video on with you pump and garden hose
Some of my older videos show me using a garden hose. Yes it works but not for long and I dont recommend it. The hose is not designed for the chemical and it will burst and you'll get SH everywhere. I have plenty of videos showing leaks and me fixing leaks and replacing hose etc. The SH will ruin the brass male and female ends causing leaks. The SH will also destroy the hose wall linings and you'll leak!
@@YoungAmbitionYA ok ill get a better hose i was thinking the clear hose half inch 200ft whats a good diameter for soft washing
Hey, what is the name of the fittings you use to connect your 5/8 hose to the pump?
Hey Andre. It's just a generic hose splitter from a hardware store. This one came with the tank/pump set up from tractor supply
I recently installed 3.0gpm pump on atv. Pressure and pump pulsated badly, so I cranked down screw on pressure switch until it was smooth. Problem is, is that it blows 10a fuse that I have on positive wire close to battery, and wire feels a little warm. Wondering if I could get away with putting 15a fuse like the pump has, and possibly running 12ga wire instead of 14-16. I didn't know if this would tear up voltage regulator, relay, or battery itself.
I've never altered the wiring but always put in the biggest fuse I can find. I once blew 10 fuses in 30 min. Upped the fuse and never had another prob
Also keeps the seals wet
Just got a 5.5 bleach pump and it keeps shutting off after 2 seconds! Driving me crazy man I bought the free replacement but I don't know if I even want another one.
They're trash. Get a flojet
This is an old video.. Iv commented on stuff before and wanted to show an older vid love that a lot of people need to see as it helped me earlier when I started… I’m from Binghamton area not too far.. just saying thank you! Your videos have gotten me pretty damn close to quitting my federal job and doing this full time.. my first year I did it part time to see how it’s possible.. it’s working well.. upstate cleaning solutions on fb.. all because of these videos
That's awesome to hear! Good luck to you
I have a customer complaining about plant damage 2 weeks later I was just using my down streamer..I have to go and take a look later today at the plants..If the damage was caused by me can you tell me what I should expect to see?
Its going to be hard to tell one way or the other. A dead plant looks like a dead plant. You want to treat your customers well but you also don't want to be taken advantage of. Did they plant new plants that didnt take well, or damaged by cold nights? Do you recall them being healthy before the job? If you take the blame be sure it was your fault. Did you rinse well? Mix too hot? Definitely could have been you, but also could just be someone looking for new plants. If every plant around the home is dead then it's possible your mix was hot or you didnt rinse as well as you could have. If it's just a few then could be just bad plants
So what do you end up doing with all those empty 5 gallon containers? Does the store recycle them?
Theres a deposit on them when you take them from the supply shop. When you return them you get your deposit back
Can I ask where do you get your chemicals from
Sup bama! I get it from local pool stores
I like your set up. I got quick question, where do you get your contract from for commercial or residential and how much do you charge the customer is per sq ft or the job?
I've never used a contract for wash services. I also don't typically price by sqft. I price by the job
@@YoungAmbitionYA so to do a drive way about 140 sq ft not that dirty what would charge since you don't charge by sq ft
Where did you buy your chemical from how much do you mix ON Your chemicals?ex SH?
Hey Robert. This video is a few seasons ago and the yellow 5 gallon jugs I was using are from pool supply stores - 12.5%. My recent videos you'll see white 55 gallon drums. Those come from a regional bulk chemical supplier called Slack Chemical. They deliver bulk SH which is a better price and more convenient - their bleach is 15%. For house washes I dilute the 15% to 1-3% and for roof washes I dilute the 15% to 6%. Never use straight bleach
What size fuse do you run?
You need 30s or they pop too often
Bro quick question I bought the 4gmp northern soft wash system but what brand an size battery should I buy for it?
Get a 12 volt car battery. Interstates a good battery brand. Also get a way to charge it too. One charge will last you multiple days, but I tend to charge every night
Check out my 1 on 1 by clicking the blue JOIN button if it can help you.
Ya need a marine battery. Go to advance or napa and get the largest marine deep cycle battery you can afford. They're made to completely discharge unlike car batteries.
I have a outlet inside my truck, which can help with keeping it charged during jobs
Yeah that's nice!
@@YoungAmbitionYA I been watching you and I noticed you are cheap lmao. Not a bad thing at all! You are making good money the CHEAP way lol. So...I think you should reward yourself with a new truck. Just not a Ford 🤣
It's not about how much money you make, it's about how much money you spend 🧘♀️
@@YoungAmbitionYA I like that
where can i buy that tank with 12v pump already attached ty so much
I got this from tractor supply
@@YoungAmbitionYA ty sir, what length hose could i use off this tank ? im on a budget but ready to work. any advice is great. ty again
What are the connectors and sizes of the connectors you are using PLEASE ANSWER
Can you be more specific? Electrical connections or hose connection?
@@YoungAmbitionYA hose! Thank you
Do u rinse with the softwash system
Yes I do
Hey, so the pump has held up to the SH ? the pumps manual says warranty voided if Chlorine is used in the pump. I have a Northstar pump 2.2 gpm to spray chem so I don’t splatter it on me while applying chem to tight spaces like porches. Lasted 2 years using about 1x per month. The pressure switch went bad, replaced it and then it started working but, pressure was surging up/down, constantly. Figure that I’ll get one that has higher gpm. Just wondering how yours is holding up to the chlorine . Just subbed. Like to know what mix you like to use. Thanks.
What's going on Will. I used northstar pumps in the beginning but they're junk in my opinion. I like Everflo. I use the 5.5gpm 12v. The chlorine will definitely put a beating on them. I go through 3-4 pumps a season. Just a cost of doing business
@@YoungAmbitionYA do you go through the whole pump 3-4 times a season or just the cartridge?
@@YoungAmbitionYA Northstar pumps are Everflow pumps. Everflow makes them Northstar puts their sticker on em.
Question. I have an ever flow 5.5 using a 1/2 hose woring end, (75 feet), 3/4 suction about 3 feet long. and it's popping fuses like crazy. I haven't even tried adding the rest of the hose. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Charles I'm not 100% but pretty sure the 1/2 inch hose is restricting the flow of the 5.5gpm pump causing it to over work. I would try a wider diameter hose. I think that will help!
@@YoungAmbitionYA Thank you for your response. I’ll give it a try. Should have done more testing before I started do work lol. Thanks
@@charlestuozzo4747 recheck your wiring too. The hose diameter would make your pump over work.. not sure it would blow a fuse. See if you have a short to your ground wires. Check where you crimped your connections and see if + and - connectors are arching as well.
@@YoungAmbitionYA I changed the battery to a smaller lawn type, dumped the gun for a ball valve and pipe configuration and checked all the connections. I’ll give it a run tomorrow and see if it works or let’s the smoke out. Next step is 5/8 hose and/or new pump. Thanks for all you help.
I got a another idea i am going too get 200ft of expanding flex hose LMFAO i just wanted too let you know and its lighter then the garden hose on my reel
Planning on using it for soft washing? If so that hose, flex hose or garden hose won't last long. The SH will eat right through it. When I started I connected Flexilla hose to my pumps to wash with. Very soon the hose walls started bubbling and breaking. If your going to use it for flowing bleach or chlorine try Kuritech hose or something else designed for chemical. Good luck brother!
This is like watching fingernails on a chalkboard
Lol dont watch it then
Yea dude. If you are so smart and don't appreciate the basic info he is giving that some of "babies" need and want when starting the move on. People need to learn from someone. I guess you never went to school. Just knew everything when you popped out of momma.
Sorry I was born in a mechanical minded family I'm sure their school teachers that want to get into physical work that need things explained in detail
