After over 10 years of painting (mostly struggling on my own without a teacher) I never have done this, as I didn’t have any idea what those pieces were for. I know I should have asked someone, but today it was YOU who taught me. Thank you! 😃
Thank you 🙏 stay safe 🌈
You can still tighten painted canvass FYI.
Thanks for explaining how to use the keys, never knew how before!
I never knew ehat to fo with these so I used to collect them then use them to make "white fences" for my small house-like projects 😂 Thank you for the perfect and straight to the point explanation.
Perfect explanation and straight to the issue, no fuss😊 Truely appreciated. Thankyou so much.
Just applied for a school art exhibition. They gave me the same canvas and acrylics.
I've never drawn with acrylics and when I saw those Keys, I kept wondering what I have to do with them. Thank you so much for clearing out a lot of questions! :)
Almost 4 years of Acrylic and Oil painting on canvas (both stretched and non-stretched canvas board)
and I'm embarrassed to confess that I always threw these away, even though I knew they are for tightening the canvas. I just failed to understand how it's done. This video was just what I needed!!!
Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️
I got all mine wrong )))
Thanks for such a clear, easy-to-follow answer to a question I have had for YEARS!!
Thank you so much for making this video! 💖 I was so baffled by these little wooden pieces that now I know are called canvas keys. Have a great day!
Very clear instruction and explanation. Thank you!
Thanks for this. While using some too-thin keys today I discovered that a section of an emery board for filing nails works well in providing the necessary additional wedge.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much!
Very informative for a beginner such as myself Thank you 🇨🇦
You don't want a corner staple crossing the joint as it connects the two stretcher bars so the staple stops the keys from actually pushing the stretcher bars apart as intended.
thanks for all the great information Clive!
Thank you so much! This is my first time using them!
Thank you for all the technical stuff + explanations. Something so hard to find answers nowadays.
Your welcome
Thanks so much for this! Helpful, and _concise._
Thank you for showing how to fit them so clearly. I was wondering why the ones I had kept falling out, now I know to look for those with a tighter fit.
Thank you for explaining that! It really helped
Thank you Clive thank you for the tip 👍
Perfect explanation for someone like me, never knew how and why they were there or how you put them there, you also had a reasoning why you should put them there :)
Thank you for this useful video! ❤
Thanks. I never asked anyone about that until now. Great! I'll get busy now and install them on the canvas I just opened.

Thank you so much! Just started painting and had no clue. I guessed it had something to do with those slots but now its crystal clear
I have lot of those keys when I buy canvas panel, and I don't know where to use it. Now that I learned it from your channel, what I will do now to collect all those keys and put it on my panel. I hope I still have it my stuff. Thanks a lot for sharing this info.
Thank you for that.
Thanks Clive my man. Supplements that long explanation on the Jackson’s site.

Glad to help!
Thank you so much sir. You are the best.
Thank you so much, I always wondered
Thank you for this.
Thanks for showing.
Thank you sir for explaining how to use these wooden pieces... 😊😊
Thank you sir. I didnt know that. I am new to painting.
I literally just saved these keys because I didn’t know how to use them. That kind you for explaining
Light Dawns!! Supidly I didn't realise to leave them in while I did the painting - ah well, shows you are never too old to learn something new, thank you so much Clive for posting this video. xx
Thank you. I was so clueless before watching your video. I didn’t even notice there were holes in the canvas to where these wooden stuffs go! Lol..
Thanks Clive.
Thank you so much!
My niece’s project had those. I’ve put them diagonally in all corners. 😄
Thank you for this
Thanks for the information .
Thanks Clive!!! I FINALLY know what they are and how to use them!!!!!!
I’ve always used the keys the way you do with the long sides flush against the stretcher bars. I just watched a video put out by Richmond Art where the presenter says to do it the opposite way. They all look quite untidy at the end! Hopefully it doesn’t matter which way it’s done. 😊
Thank you, I didn't know what to do with them
So do you need to re tap them into place after you finish painting the canvas as well? Sure the painting on the canvas. Loosens it again, or should you just not use them until after the painting is complete?
I was wondering that as well. Do you do it before you paint?
I heard from different videos that you do it before and you leave them in
Omg thank u so much that actually helped me❤️❤️❤️
Thank you
Thanks mate👍
Thanks sir for explaning
Thank's. Just an example of how a little bit of info on the canvas package could have saved people from doing unnecessary mistakes.
Thank you so much.
thank you! I couldn't figure it out on my own
Thank you God bless you
Thank you!
Thank you!!!!
Grazie! Piccolo dettaglio ma importante!
Thankyou, salamat, arigato 😌👌for this usefull information bc i am a idiot that always threw these out😀
Same lol
Thanks for that
Thank you very much :)
Thank you!!
Thank you. So much
Thank you. I thought we use them when the canvas become loose. So you recommend we use them every time we use a canvas before painting?
Thank you for this video!!
Thanku so much sir
Should we do this before or after painting??
Thank you Clive...mine always end up falling out !..With your clear explanation I will remember how to put them in correctly 👍👍
Probably because of crappy products. Look into real artist materials. Those steep things are all show, and will "always" fall out.
Thank you so much
Anyways it helped me,thank you
Do you take them out when finished painting?
Who knew? Well, obviously, you did! Thank you! Should they be removed once the painting is dry?
Does using the keys keep the canvas from having a dip in the center? And do you leave them once you put them in?
I just throw them. Hahaha thanks you for this video
Thank you ^,^
I bought the exact same canvas
Thank youuuu
Thanks for the video - very clear and detailed! Can you please clear something up for me, I've noticed that when I put them in longside down, the pointy bit then pokes the canvas out on the corners, is this correct and it leaves pointy dimples in the canvas, is this correct?
I always just threw away them😂😂😂😂Thanks for the info
Hi Clive thanks for that not to mene wood say that you are so good for your ideas thank you for sharing 👍👍👍👍🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you leave the keys in after you’re done with you’re painting?
Thanks Clive! Can one put those keys into a finished painting?
thank you its my first time painting on a canvas and I coulve trash those.lucky I did a little research
Can you add these if you've done a painting and it is dry?
Thanks, I learnt something new thanks to you.
