Thank you for the tip. I also learned, I should probably have a couple spare crush washers.
thanks ; that really helped me !
quick concise and to the point in less than 4 min.
other U-Tubers please take note !
Exactly! This was everything I needed to know without having to hear what OP had for lunch.
I used your method to the letter to install and time the extended A2 flash hider on my AR.
Looks better than factory install.
Thank you for this video! Very clear and concise.
Definitely helped. Thanks for the great tutorial 👍🏾💯
Thank you for the advice had a bad experience before and ended up using shims. Had to go an entire revolution before I could time a compensator to an AR9 barrel. The precrushing did the trick!
Thanks for the easy to follow clear instructions, got my muzzle brake installed!
Great video!! I was confused about which way the crush washer went. Very clear instructions.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Helped a lot.
Short and informative. That's what I'm talking about! Thanks, I subscribed.
I’m an engineer.. great video. Easy to follow with the information I need
Thank you for this video, Very clear and to the point.
Thanks for sharing, Very helpful!
The info I was looking for , thanks .
Perfect! My muzzle brake has a very small mounting surface, so I wondered if I should flip the washer. Answered that quick lol!
Thanks brother. Good video. I’m used to my AK where it has the dimple in the muzzle device to lock
Yes it's easier to do. Unless those who make ARs think all muzzle devices take a crush washer including AKs - not.
Great vid dude, thanks
Thanks couldn’t figure it out 👍🏽
Very well done friend. Thanks a lot. Good video. SC Navy vet.
Thanks neckbone!
Perfectly spent 4:08 minutes :-).
Thank you!
Thank you for making a short video. I hate long instruction video's.
Helpful thanks
Great video
You dont need to get a brand new crush washer every time you take your A2 birdcage off. As long as it gets a reasonable amount of tourqe going back on its just fine as it is not under huge stress in normal operation. Might be differend on other devices and if you use a suppressor that mounts to the A2 id recomment replacing the washer every time. But just the A2 alone is never coming off because you didnt replace the washer.
Good job
And what happens when your barrel extension de torques? Geissle make a reaction rod that prevents that
Correct info on the crush washer install process, but missed the very important thing, the use of a Reaction Bar.
Upper Receiver Vise Blocks are only good for small and non-torque related install work on the upper.
For any torque related work involving the barrel, I highly recommend using a Reaction Bar. This would help you avoid damaging the vise block, or worst, cracking your upper receiver. Use a Reaction Bar any time you apply torque to the barrel. This includes tightening the Barrel Nut, and timing and clocking muzzle devices.
Where can I get one?
I want to install my muzzle device on my hunting rifle the correct and safe way.
Please provide a link
@@BertReno Reaction Bars are only good for AR type semi-auto rifles, which have splined extensions on the barrels. These reaction bars have splines that fits right in the AR type barrel extensions. My comments was for the AR rifle build that this shown. Unless you hunt with an AR type rifle, then my comments would apply. You can get them from Brownells, MidwayUSA, etc. or any online retailers. For bolt action type hunting rifles, browning or MidwayUSA also have plenty of choices for barrel blocks that you can use. You do not need to apply a lot of torque on these muzzle brakes. Just snug tight is usually what's needed. The crush washer will not allow you to over torque. If you need to clock your muzzle brake straight and plumb, then you have to add some muzzle thread shims correct the timing. Hope this helps.
Tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen, tighten until you’re about a quarter to half turn
Best!
Btw, I’ve seen index pin break off.
I might subscribe. I don’t know though. Lol thanks for vid.
Who taught these guys that “pre-crushing” a crush washer is correct. Crush washers are a one time event. Once you crush it don’t back it off
For traditional crush washers, yes. For this specific application they are designed to be backed off then retightened.
my barrel tip has a spring/pin and indentation on the break for correct alignment.
it did come with a crush washer though,, vg6 epsilon ak.
My m70 has the spring on the barrel though, do I need to use the crush washer or just screw it until it's tight and factory aligned.
I guess the crush washer is to be used for barrels that don't have the spring pin to keep it in place.?
Thank you
What is that device you connected to your weapon to put in to the vise? And where did you buy it?? Great video!!!!!
Thanks, it's an upper vice block. I got it here: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=15098&u=2698398&m=4355&urllink=www%2Eopticsplanet%2Ecom%2Fobsidian%2Darms%2Dar%2D15%2Dupper%2Dreceiver%2Dvice%2Dblock%2Ehtml&afftrack=
Do you recommend using grease like molibidenium on the muzzle threads?
My muzzle break needs to turn a 3/4 turn to be facing the right way. Will that be too much stress on the crush washer?
Brief and concise!
Now, do I need rockset or red loctite with a crush washer?
Rockset is not a bad idea. If you wanted to remove the muzzle device soak it in water and it'll neutralize the rockset.
is this supposed to be tight to the barrel or loose, i have one for a 9mm pistol but the washer sits very loose and has nothing to push against till i get to the front of the weapon which i couldn't tread the muzzle break enough for
Crush washer cone forward or backwards?
🤘
What vice block is that?
Where can I buy that wrench?
Idk if i did it correct or not but whem you said "do a 25% turn" i went ahead and did a whole full turn and stopped where when it was aligned. So basically i hand tightened then i grabbed my wrench and went a whole full turn not just the 25 you said, is that okay?
Huh? Concave facing the muzzle device. Okay. Easy. And the small side facing the shooter.... Wait.... But I thought the concave side....
Good tutorial but shims are the way to go. ✌✌
Is the crush washer necessary to install? What happens if you don’t put it on? Do all compensators need the crush washer ? I have one compensator that came with it and one that didn’t. Thanks for info in advance.
You don't need crush washer. You can use shims, lock nut, or nothing at all if you'd like. The crush washer just keeps it from loosening.
@@NeckboneArmory thanks for that. So it’s basically just an extra security feature. Less likely to get loose with crush washer? Just subscribed to your channel. I’ll be checking videos out.
Well shit... I've been placing those damn crush washers on backwards for 20 years.
Everything is ok except vise. You're clamping upper receiver but not the barrel itself. You can damage barrel bed on upper receiver. You need action rod or what people use to call them.
@@Spencer900 Can't really say but you're applying torque to part 1 and have clamped part 2.
The connection between those parts has to take torque force and you only want it on muzzle. Maybe barrel notch on upper receiver can be widen?
Don’t you need a torque wrench to ensure you don’t over tighten it? I’m pretty sure that wrench you were using isn’t a torque wrench.
That wrench was just a simple armorers wrench. As long as you tighten past hand tight more than a quarter turn, it will be torqued correctly with a crush washer. You can't really over tighten with a crush washer unless you completely flatten the crush washer. You shouldn't need to tighten it to that point. Even on muzzle devices that need to be timed, you will never need to do more than one full rotation to get it timed properly. Keep an eye on the crush washer, if you're flattening it, you're going too tight. If you want to use a torque wrench for peace of mind, that works too.
@@NeckboneArmory is one whole turn to much? When i hand tighten mine it is at a perfect time. I will have to go all the way around again.

If this video helped you maybe subscribe.. idk 😂😂😂
I have no idea what you did cause you cut the video
👍
My barrel is tapered at the end will tightening the crush washer damage the barrel? Stainless steel barrel BTW.
It should be fine. only really need 20 - 30 ft lbs on the crush washer. The only problem I've seen with tapered barrels and crush washers is that the crush washer needs a shelf to crush against and some tapered barrels lose that. I've seen people flip the crush washer around because of it.
Always love these kinds of videos. Explaining why things need to be the way they are and straight into the installation. Compared to other videos where a simple subject like this will be turned into a 45 minute video with only 2 minutes being about the actual subject.
