DIY Hanging File Box and Folders using paperboard
DIMENSIONS in centimeters
Box:
- 27 x 20
4 boards, two for the front and two for the back
- 20 x 20
2 boards for the sides
- 18,9 x 20
2 boards (for the sides)
- 20 x 27,5
bottom
Lid:
- 20,4 x 28
- 2 x 20
- 2 x 28,4
Track:
- 1,5 x 18,9
the two pieces that are glued together first
- 1 x 18,9
the piece that is glued vertically (where the hooks will hang)
- 1 x 1,3
the last piece pasted to reinforce
✏️ MATERIALS AND TOOLS
- Kraft Paper 400gsm (or any other firm weight)
- Popsicle Sticks
- Washi tape (to decorate)
- Paperboard 2mm
- Paper for lining
- White glue
- Pencil, ruler, craft knife, bonefolder / scoring tool, brush, square
- masking tape
- Clamps or clothespin
- Cutting mat
- Sandpaper
- Small saw

Suuuuper useful. I came looking because I want to adapt an old tin for my mother's fridged seed packets. Her current container is an old saltine tin--which is perfect for fitting on the shelf she uses, but horrible for organizing and retrieving seeds. I got another tin of suitable dimensions but with the lid on the long face--now I just have to figure out what to make the tracks from and start making folders.

Logged in to say I'm impressed! The sturdiness and attention to detail of the file box, as well as the idea of using paddle pop/popsicle sticks for the files. I have been thinking today about how I could make my own after seeing how much they cost at the shops. I thought of balsa wood strips and/or cardboard strips, but sticks are both strong, easily available and ~fairly easy to cut. Thanks for your video!

Thank you so much Tesh!! The only thing really is that when you cut the grooves sometimes the wood splits, so you need to cut slowly, but yeah they work great!
